25.01.2022 ARE YOUR RURAL PROPERTY NUMBERS FADED OR MISSING? We want to make sure rural properties in our Council area are easily identifiable. This is vital in an emergency and also important for deliveries and for general daily activities. To support this, Council has resolved to pay for new rural property numbers when they've deteriorated and can't be clearly seen.... If your rural property numbers are no longer legible, we'd like you to let us know by telephoning our office on 1300 676 243 or emailing [email protected] and we'll order new ones. You'll need to let us know your property numbers. It will then be your responsibility to put them up. It is also the landholder's responsibility to keep the growth down around the property numbers. We will undertake the replacement program in June and December each year. >> Read more: https://bit.ly/3lk3DOZ
25.01.2022 WHAT BIRD IS THAT? One of the great things about Coleambally is the fact that the streets are named after the spectacular birdlife in the area. Now all the street signs are adorned with a picture of their namesake and a QR code to find out more about each bird.... Pictured is artist Carolyne Rutledge, who created the bird graphics and attached the QR Codes. The project was completed using funds from the Australian Government Drought Communities Programme. #murrumbidgeecouncil
24.01.2022 Christmas message from our Mayor On behalf of Murrumbidgee Council, we offer our best wishes for a very merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year to all in our Council and greater region. It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of 2020. It’s been a roller coaster and the ride is one we don’t wish to revisit any time soon.... Bushfires, COVID-19 and its far reaching consequences including lockdowns, border closures, remote workforces, dislocated family situations, home schooling, and the biggest challenge of all, remaining healthy has certainly stretched us all. Council thanks each and every one of you for your efforts in keeping COVID-19 at bay. We have and are still being cleansed and sanitised within an inch of our lives, but this is an ongoing challenge and so continued vigilance must be the order of the day. There has been very visible evidence of investment in infrastructure in all of our communities during 2020. Our Council has been the beneficiary of much opportunistic funding that will ensure generational upgrading that will serve us admirably into the future. >> Read more: https://bit.ly/2JbJ3TR #murrumbidgeecouncil

21.01.2022 HEAT STRESS!! Today is going to be a tough day on our furry friends, and it’s important we take some extra precautions to prevent them developing heat stress. ... Never leave your pet in a car or direct sunlight (including on the back of utes!) Ensure there is fresh water available at all times. It’s best to have at least 2 sources of water in case one gets tipped over Offer ice blocks or treats frozen in ice trays Offer damp, cool towels for them to lie on, or a shallow wading pool If you have a pet that suffers from respiratory issues (Bulldogs, Frenchies, Persians), it’s best to keep them in an air conditioned room. If you think your pet is suffering from heat stress, cover them in a cold, damp towel and call us immediately on (03) 5886 1436.

19.01.2022 Check out the fantastic new paint work on the leopard tank in Memorial Park at Jerilderie! We've included before and after shots so you can see the difference. The work was undertaken by former Jerilderie local Drew Locke who did an amazing job. The photos are courtesy of Drew.... The project was made possible when the local Jerilderie RSL Sub branch obtained a Federal Government grant for $4,795 through the Saluting Their Service Commemorative Program. It's an interesting story on how the tank came to be in Jerilderie. It was originally in service with the Australian Army. When the army was decommissioning the series, the astute members of the Jerilderie RSL sub branch applied for a tank and actually received the first one that was allocated. It's been located at Memorial Park since 2010 when former Governor of NSW Marie Bashir unveiled the new addition to Jerilderie's military history. Take a look next time you're down at the park. #murrumbidgeecouncil

15.01.2022 Council will be carrying out inspections of swimming pools and spas in the area over the coming months. All private swimming pools and spas in NSW must be registered and compliant with the Swimming Pools Act and Regulations. During the inspection, Council will check that all safety barriers and warning/resuscitation posters are compliant and meet the necessary standards so as to minimise the risk of drowning. Drowning is the leading cause of death in small children. ... If your pool is found to be non-compliant, you will be required to meet the current standards. Council will contact pool owners when an inspection of their pool is planned so arrangements can be made for the inspection to be carried out at a mutually convenient time. If you own a pool or spa and it is not registered please visit https://www.swimmingpoolregister.nsw.gov.au/ and register it as soon as possible on the Swimming Pool Register or contact the Environment and Planning Department at Council for assistance. Council has resuscitation charts available for sale at our offices for $31 each. This is a requirement of pool registration.
13.01.2022 Take The Kidman Way - Backtrack to the Outback on your next road trip Named after Sir Sydney Kidman, this quiet, sealed road takes you on a journey through in...land New South Wales starting at Jerilderie and captured here by Instagrammer @blue_highways_imagery. Part of the route was used by Kidman and his business enterprise as stock routes as he built up significant holdings of pastoral land throughout Australia from the late 1800s through to his death in 1935. Before you start on your road trip, explore the historic town of Jerilderie and its infamous Ned Kelly connections, and make sure to drop into Sticky Fingers Candy Shop and pick up some delicious sweets for the journey. Once on the road you’ll head through Coleambally and Darlington Point toward Visit Griffith, then onto Hillston, Cobar and through to Bourke. Along the way, you’ll discover produce-rich farmlands, historic towns and majestic rivers. While a number of towns are part of the #MurrumbidgeeTrails, it's a great drive to follow and continue your explorations further in NSW.

08.01.2022 We're in for some scorchers over the next few days and we need to take the risk of heat-related illness seriously. MLHD is asking us all to take these simple precautions to minimise the risk of heat-related illness: Drink plenty of water, and remember to carry some with you when you’re out and about. Avoid alcoholic, hot or sugary drinks.... Plan your day around the heat. Stay indoors between 11am and 5pm and minimise physical activity. Keep the sun out of your house by shading windows with an awning, shade-cloth or plants. Shutting curtains will also help. #murrumbidgeecouncil

07.01.2022 BIDGEE BUNYIPS! A group comprising many local First Nations artists from Darlington Point and Coleambally currently have their artwork displayed at the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery. The bunyips featured in the recent ArtState exhibition, and will be on display until Christmas. The bunyips came to life when the dedicated group of artists participated in a textile project run by local artist Kerri Weymouth and Wagga-based artist, Dr Julie Montgarrett. ... Some people made them from their memories of the local Bunyip Hole on the Murrumbidgee River, and others from their imagination. The Bunyips all have their own name and story, and are based on the ancient Wiradjuri story of the dangerous bunyip who lurks in a hole on a sweeping bend of the Murrumbidgee river, waiting for unsuspecting swimmers. This was a culturally clever way to keep children safe and away from one of the most treacherous parts of the river! This project was part of Kerri’s internship as Local Producer with the CAD Factory, while in her final year of studies in a Master of Therapeutic Arts at MIECAT in Melbourne. It was made possible with funding from Murrumbidgee Council through the Australian Government Drought Communities Programme. Thank you to Kaarin Bruton from Wagga Wagga art gallery for curating the Bunyips in their space at the gallery. #murrumbidgeecouncil Group photo courtesy of Camille Whitehead. Kerri Weymouth
