International Day of People with Disability is a celebration of the valuable contributions people living with disabilities make to our communities, the Margaret River Recreation Centre is once again marking the occasion with a disco! We're inviting members of the community with a disability, as well as their family members, friends, carers and support workers, to this fun, free and accessible event, which will run 12...pm to 1.30pm in the group fitness room. This year, IDOPWD carries the theme Not All Disabilities are Visible, which aims to spread awareness about less visible disabilities like mental illness, chronic pain and fatigue.

19.01.2022 From the 5th - 9th October, the National Swim Teams from both Scarborough Beach Swimming Club (Head Coach: Cameron Hawthorn) and Kwinana Swimming Club (Head Coach: Shannon Doody) will be staying in Margaret River for one week where they will complete a series of heavy daily training sessions in the pool twice a day and daily land and weight training sessions along with team building activities out and about in the region. The national teams comprise of a number of Australia's... top 10 swimmers and up and coming national age and open swimmers. The week appropriately named "Hell Week" will be a hard week of training for all swimmers who will be working through the last week of an aerobic endurance phase, which will be the hardest period of their preparation leading into December state championships. The team is looking forward to coming down and enjoying sometime in the beautiful region for the week. We look forward to meeting some of you while we are there and happy to share some knowledge while we are around.

13.01.2022 Post lockdown - Shire services and facilities update The South West will return to its pre-lockdown conditions from 6pm today, provided that there are no ne...w cases of COVID-19 recorded in WA. Please look out for any changes issued by the WA Government Mark McGowan or at www.wa.gov.au as they may result in further changes. If all goes to plan though, here’s an update on Shire related services and opening hours. Outdoor facilities All playgrounds, skateparks, outdoor gym equipment and public BBQs are planned to open again at 6pm, Friday 5 February. We know this is welcome news for families! Please wait until 6pm if heading out. Shire Customer Services Face-to-face customer services will resume at 9am, Monday 8 February. This includes Department of Transport related services. 10.01.2022 COVID-19 Update Margaret River Recreation Centre has put a number of measures in place in order to minimise risk and ensure people stay safe amid the five-day lockdown. This means the temporary closure of the centres in both Margaret River and Augusta, the closure of outdoor sporting facilities and suspension of classes. Wondering what that means for you? Here’s some more information:... Memberships: All current memberships and passes have been suspended and will be extended by the length of closure once normal activities resume. The $5m cash injection will boost the existing KidSport program by $4m, allowing an extra 24,500 children to access up to $150 per year for use towards club fees.... An additional $1m will go into a Club Support Program, which will provide $500 subsidies to KidSport registered clubs. 04.01.2022 Rec Centre upgrades on the horizon We're at the very beginning stages of creating a concept design to replace the Aquatic Centre's roof structure. The roof above our pool is reaching the end of its useful life and structural upgrades are needed.... This presents an opportunity for other potential upgrades to the Centre. Design plans being explored include an upgrade to change facilities, the foyer area and the addition of a new gym facility located to the North of the existing Aquatic Centre building envelope. Works are still a long way off (pencilled in for 2022 at the very earliest). We'll keep you in the loop as things progress. 01.01.2022 As of 6pm today, the South West will be going into a five-day lockdown. The Margaret River Recreation Centre, Augusta Recreation Centre, Margaret River and Augusta libraries, and Margaret River HEART will be closed. The lockdown applies to all South West residents and means you must stay home except for the following four reasons:... Shopping for essentials like groceries, medicine and necessary supplies; Medical or health care needs including compassionate requirements and looking after the vulnerable; Exercise, within your neighbourhood, but only with one other person and only for one hour per day; and Work, where you cannot work from home or remotely.
