21.01.2022 Our Bed of Jade Poppies have had a little slumber but a request has been made for them to grace the lounge room of an admirer, and so, we’ve just had to oblige. We picked them up from the printer yesterday, prepped today to be sewn tomorrow. These Poppies are still as luscious as they were the first time we laid our eyes on them. A little description of why we adore them still. A green so rich and sumptuous it must have been dreamt up by a wildwood nymph. 19.01.2022 Had the pleasure of picking up my custom made leather laptop sleeve from 9r_recycled_ handcrafted today. I had trouble hunting down an aesthetically pleasing yet functional sleeve. Kelli was more than accomodating with all my wishes...internal pockets , zip type, colours and even stitching. Best of all, she rescues leather lounges that are destined for landfill. So not only is she a true artisan ( just checkout the beautiful hand stitching) but she is equally passionate about the environment. 11.01.2022 Architecture History Door left open Yesterday doing a cushion drop at Viva Madrid, Lindfield , I walked past a sidewalk I’ve walked down many times before. But this particular day a door off that side walk was left open, and as I walked past, (my peripheral vision who’s always on the hunt for detail) glimpsed a staircase that led to a beauty, I quickly backtracked. Not knowing if I was trespassing I climbed the stairs to discover feature after feature of original Art De...co style architectural ornateness. I left feeling I had discovered a secret and quietly pleased that this building hasn’t been knocked down replaced to by a generic but functional building that we find in so many suburbs that are a doorstep to a train station. If you let yourself look around, and be in the moment and survey you surroundings... it truly is a small gift how these discoveries can make you feel #beonthehuntfortheunexpected
10.01.2022 Yesterday I had an all too brief visit to Home Farm Cabin where I met Amanda and her gorgeous Belted Galloway calf Luna. Luna’s missing belt and greedy guzzling made her that extra bit more special. Winter sun, idyllic rolling fields dotted with gum trees straight out of a Frederick McCubbin painting complete with a proud dancing horse snorting with an audible authority to announce his presence and his caution at our intrusion made my romantic heart yearn for a life filled w...ith such landscapes. Oh, did I mention the geese on the mirror pond? I must return and spend a few nights to see the progression of a full day, to witness for my self the morning mists in the shallow valley to night skies displaying the full vast glory of the Milky Way. 09.01.2022 Part Two Milton arrived in Australia with his wife Argentina, leaving Uruguay during a very tumultuous time of it’s dictatorship. He was seeking a better life, where hard work meant being able to have a roof over your head and food on the table. Milton’s father had been outcast by his upper middle class, Catholic family, back in the day when one son or daughter was expected to enter the Order. ... Not only did Milton’s father not enter the Order, he also fell in love with a widowed woman with two children. Quite the scandalous ordeal. His love was so great, he was prepared to leave and be ostracised by his family to be with the woman he loved. This union produced Milton Mangini. A man of infinite talent, his meticulous way of organising his life is something I will always remember. If I had to describe Milton, who was like a second grandfather, it would be as a renaissance man, always building and inventing things. Knowing how inquisitive I was, I remember when he brought out a beautifully engraved Steroscope with a stack of cards. A small but precious keepsake that was given to him by his father. You see, Milton and Argentina, were never able to have children of their own, so my cousins and I were somewhat surrogate grandchildren for them. Every time I ‘d go to visit, one of my favourite things was to peer back in time and be transported to time where industrialisation was just taking off. Discovering different countries could now be visited by peering through a stereoscope. This is a special range that is dear to my heart, it also brings a sense of wonder to both Ida and I as lovers of history. 07.01.2022 Sometimes is not always about The Business, sometimes it’s about the sharing and connecting. I’ve always been fond of introducing people to people, recommending experiences and places. This artistic venture of Ms Chief Designs with my childhood sister in spirit, Ida @theravenstale , is full of surprises and discoveries. While on a girls weekend always, I dropped off orders and stock to Edith @floralink, and had suggested to my friends to come and visit this beautiful st...ore for themselves. Serendipity had it Rachel @moakmedia would instantly be captivated by artwork by @annettemacraeartist , and knew she had to have it. Just recently while delivering an order to Rachel’s home, I spotted the art piece alongside the ceramic work by @helenearlart. A mentor and now friend of Rachel’s, whose work was inspired by the casuarina tree... these stunning pieces create the perfect vignette. So the moral of the story, sharing what you find enjoyable, can bring wonder to others too. 06.01.2022 Part One ( For those that love a story) The Milton Range With events of the past year consuming our lives, we saw ourselves spending more time in our homes, and for many, an appreciation and reflection of our family.... Whilst bunkered down in my own nest, I revisited old family photos reminiscing of past days. I came across a beautiful keepsake that was passed down to me by a special person. This meant the world to me, because he had recognised and remembered how much I loved to look at it as a 10 year old girl. I have always loved being around the older generation of my family. Listening to their stories and experiences always felt special as well as a privilege. It comes as no surprise the enjoyment I get from peering back in time, imagining what people’s lives entailed, the struggle and the joy. Especially during an era where photographic documentation was in it’s infancy and only enjoyed by a small percentage. This special person, who has now left this earth but imprinted his memory within me was Milton Mangini. to be continued .....
