25.01.2022 Thinking out loud..... what about a night rock climb this summer? Thinking 5pm-10pm with a head torch and the the cliffs uplit?... Who’d be keen for something different and definitely cool?!?

24.01.2022 Where would you rather relax on your weekend? Socially distancing on the beach or having a whole creek to yourself?!!!

23.01.2022 Our new outdoor room at Moringararah Homestead is ready!! It features a pergola with a misting system for evaporative cooling, an outdoor tank shower with a view of the mountain, and a badminton court. Use of this new space is only limited by your imagination - what do you suggest?... A long table lunch? A micro elopement? Tell us what you can picture happening in this brand new space

23.01.2022 Soon we will be showing you the results of converting this old iron water tank into a custom outdoor shower with a peep-hole view of Mt Barney. (It took commitment to crawl inside to get this photo of the reno site through the tanks water inlet hole!) This will be a feature for Moringararah Homestead and a cool way #punintended for guests if this homestead to appreciate the view of the mountain over summer.... Stay tuned for the reveal photos ....

23.01.2022 Our guided Moonrise on Mt Maroon had the BEST summit conditions last night!!! Clear in the east for the rising of a huge orange moon, and high linear clouds in the west to catch the sunset rays. It was a great way to end our 2020 mountain season. Stay tunes for our summer hike program. There will be night hikes + moon + swims.

22.01.2022 Awwwww!!! Look at these cuties! Sometimes you just turn around and the magic of the bush is strolling right past

22.01.2022 Mt Barney Lodge is always looking for ways to improve our business environmental foot print. We are currently trialling envirocare earth products for use across all aspects of our accommodation options. We are giving them the big tick because:... they use plant derived ingredients that are derived from natural & sustainable resources the products are biodegradable we can decant from bulk containers to smaller bottl;es to save on packaging and landfill no palm oil Australian-owned company who manufactures in Australia we like their tag line - "AUSTRALIAN PRODUCTS THAT WORK ... AUSTRALIAN PRODUCTS THAT DON'T COST THE EARTH" Are your cleaning products as eco as they could be? Someting to think about next time you are wahing your hands for 20 seconds!!

21.01.2022 Mt Barney Lodge is the gateway to deep rock pools, bubbling waterfalls and fresh water creeks. Leave the city behind and disappear into nature!! When you stay with us we make sure you have access to maps and our local knowledge to DIY - or come on one of our guided night walk to a waterfall for a swim and dinner. Next hike is 24 January.

21.01.2022 Check out the fruiting King Purple Beans as you walk up the stairs to the office. They magically turn green when cooked. But we reckon they are best eaten raw! ... Try one when you are here.

21.01.2022 Go on an authentic eco tour where the ecotourism businesses go!!! The last day in WA was a cracker thanks to two very special people Innes met at the Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference. Sebastian & Jaime from Salt and Bush Eco Tours embody everything good about ecotourism and we were privileged to spend a day with them as they interpreted their back yard.... The bit you can’t see is how Base (Sebastian) made the ancient rocks of WA come alive and how Jaime lifted our spirits with her passion for the environment. If you live in WA treat yourself to a tour with these two, you will love it!!!

19.01.2022 It’s hard to capture the magic of the night as we descend by torchlight off Mt Maroon after our guided Moonrise on Maroon hike. But this photo has nailed it. That sky, those clouds, this rock!!!!... Heading up again in 2021, let us know if you want in!

19.01.2022 Inspired by today’s rain to prepare the vege garden for planting. Plenty of 3-month old compost added from our hot compost bay. Thanks to our winter guests for the food scraps donations

18.01.2022 Interested in native birds and citizen science? The BIG CITY BIRDS app combines the two. Download it from the App Store for free today & start reporting your findings immediately. https://www.spotteron.com/bigcitybirds/info Taronga Zoo Sydney University of Sydney SPOTTERON

18.01.2022 Have you ever taken the time to slow down and watch a spider spin a web? This Golden Orb spider creates this masterpiece every single night - attaching sticky circular links to the unsticky radial infrastructure. It is mesmerising to watch, their technical ability to do this is amazing! Come and visit us at night with a torch and see and hear the hidden night treasures that are all around us. Mt Barney has Workd-Heritage status, and one of the reasons for this standing is the... outstanding biodiversity that is present here. Come and visit and enjoy it, it is thriving in this wet season.

18.01.2022 So many waterfalls and waterholes to visit this summer holidays from Mt Barney Lodge. Plop in the creek just steps from the campsite, or walk a little further to earn a dip in a plunge pool like this one (complete with seat behind the waterfall and spa)!! Talk to us about your options when you stay with us, and grab one of our complimentary walking maps while you are at the office.... The next few weeks will be THE best time to visit the waterfalls and waterholes when they are at their very best!

18.01.2022 Counter-stealing the blue pegs back from our resident make Satin Bower Bird. With all this rain we need a few extra pegs and he has loads of other found blue trinkets.

16.01.2022 Summer waterfalls and waterholes are fully recharged at Mt Barney - plan your next visit or give a gift voucherand to share nature with some one else this Christmas. https://mailchi.mp/mtbarneylodge.com/december2020newsletter

15.01.2022 We are taking bookings now for our new night rock climbing session - the perfect summer activity!

14.01.2022 Last nights night rock climbing was truely sensational! We start in the twilight, have dinner and then continue climbing by head torch after dark. If you like to join our next night climb (which is a short walk from Mt Barney Lodge) it is planned for January 16 from 4.30pm.

14.01.2022 So many beautiful photos to share of our staff gathering last night. Scenic Rim Bride hosted a sparking Christmas party at the stunning White Chapel & Black Hall Kalbar and the whole Mt Barney Lodge team got fancy’d up in all-white to match the theme of the night. The quality of the venue was outstanding. The transition from the light and airy all-white hall (where we had welcome drinkies and mucked around in a popup photo booth) to the all-black hall (complete with crac...king log fire and hunting lodge theme) was very effective. The long tables were exquisitely decorated with crystal, linen, Christmas trimmings and silverware. We enjoyed a mouth-watering 2-course meal paired with local wines and expressi martinis afterwards. It was a great night to reflect with staff on the turbulent year that was 2020, to toast present and absent staff (Ryan, David, Caitlyn and Connor you were missed) and to meet with others in the tourism industry who were there to share the celebrations. It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!!

14.01.2022 If you hear that ‘greenie dole-bludging hippies are protesting about climate change and they need to get a real job’ that’s because Ecotourism leaders aren’t leading the charge. It is time for an Ecotourism led revolution .... says Innes from Mt Barney Lodge at the Forum Of Revolutionaey Ideas at the 2020 Global Ecotourism Conference.

14.01.2022 Happy Christmas-beetle!!

13.01.2022 YES!!!! Rain is falling!!! The creeks and waterholes in the Mt Barney National are going to be absolutely spectacular through summer. The frogs are especially happy .... can you spot the Leaf Green Tree Frog in this pic! Where’s Wally!!

13.01.2022 Our Jacaranda trees are in full bloom. How pretty is the October skyline?!!

12.01.2022 Shed your 2020 skin and lets get started!! Kiara Bauer spotted a circada moulting while staying at Mt Barney Lodge !!

12.01.2022 Forget about hiking in the heat of the day - go with our guides on a NIGHT hike. Last nights moonlit hike for a night swim and dinner was sensational fun! If you missed out, we are going again on Sunday 27 December starting at 4pm.... Message or ring us 5544 3233 to book.

11.01.2022 The new outdoor shower at Moringararah Homestead has big views of Mt Barney. It has also been popular with our Outdoor Leaders after extended expedition campouts! What a great way to cool off when staying in the original homestead this summer.

11.01.2022 Life is very good when you wake up to mountain views like this & : @_thelittleadventurer

11.01.2022 If your New Years resolution is to get fit in 2021, then book on our next night hike - for a night swim under a waterfall followed by dinner.

10.01.2022 Are you gazing at the amazing moon tonight? Tomorrow night it is going to be even better - as it is the 100% full moon and clear skies are forecast. It will be the perfect night for climbing Mt Maroon with us to watch the sunset and the full moon rise. We assemble at Mt Barney Lodge at 1pm, and return after 9pm. This guided hike is $150pp and includes expert guiding, all equipment and insurance and a catered expedition snack pack, with a warm pasta meal on top of the mountain.... Accommodation or camping can be booked separately if desired. We recommend this as it is a late return to the Lodge. If you would like more information and/or the booking forms you can message or email [email protected] and we will respond up until 9pm tonight, or call us 8am tomorrow. ... and now back to the moon ............. 07.01.2022 Cooking up a storm in the kitchen while there is a storm outside The cherry tomatoes came straight out of the permaculture garden and make a tasty (but very seedy) pasta sauce.

07.01.2022 2020 was indeed a challenging year for Mt Barney Lodge. Despite enforced bush fire evacuations, covid lockdown and national park closure, we have still kept a positive focus and have concentrated on what we can do differently and how we can better meet the needs of the people who are visiting our region. This article is a good overview of the year that was, and Innes' responses to how we weave bushfire into our guided activities.... 07.01.2022 We love our Lace Monitors that are territorial residents at Mt Barney Lodge, but please DON'T FEED THEM!!! Feedling this type of wildlife only makes them lose their natural fear of humans and can lead to a dangerous situation where they enter your personal space to seek food out rather than keep their distance. As you can see from this Crany Cocky, it is hard to deter them from their next meal!!

06.01.2022 If you are from the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast or Scenic Rim council areas and your weekend plans to goto Brisbane have been disrupted by the 3-day Greater Brisbane lockdown - lock plan B in place and come and stay with us at Mt Barney Lodge. 04.01.2022 Sometimes you will see Janine Healy run the office at Mt Barney Lodge, but mostly she is a full-time artist. Right now one of her paintings is hanging in the BRISBANE POWERHOUSE in Brisbane until November 1 as part of the Brisbane Portrait Prize. Her subject is John Collins (JC) the bass guitarist of Powderfinger and The Triffid. Not only did Janine paint him, but she grew up with him and has performed on stage too!!... The work was created out of Powderfinger’s online reunion in May. Janine said of her work: To me it captured the spirit of the moment and although the moment may have been overshadowed by global circumstances there was a shining light in the darkest of hours.

04.01.2022 We are starting our summer project. In 3 weeks we will have created an outdoor room next to Moringararah Homestead . Stay posted!!

There are many people Kaine has connected with during his 2.5 years with us - from kids on activities, school camps, mother & daughter camps, mountain expeditions, corporate groups and more. His ever-present enthusiasm and positivity and dimples will be missed! We wish him all the best as he moves into the ‘burbs, navigates the tertiary education system, and moves up in a career that he is well suited to.
