25.01.2022 Mentally healthy children are more successful in school and life. Good mental health is critical to childrens success in school and life. Research demonstrates that students who receive socialemotional and mental health support achieve better academically. School climate, classroom behavior, on-task learning, and students sense of connectedness and well-being all improve as well. Mental health is not simply the absence of mental illness but also encompasses social, emotional, and behavioral health and the ability to cope with lifes challenges. Left unmet, mental health problems are linked to costly negative outcomes such as academic and behavior problems, dropping out, and delinquency.

25.01.2022 Never doubt - YOU are ENOUGH!!

23.01.2022 February Reflection- Over the past month I've seen numerous families, woman and children. I am incredibly proud of those who have stepped out of the shadows and into the light. Out of the shadows of anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, physical abuse, domestic violence, marital problems, divorce. Kids who responding well to therapy and are improving and adjusting well in the school environment, academically as well as sport. Good reports from parents whose kids have started sle...ep and relaxation therapy. The best part of it all is getting a "Thank You!!" call or email. Receiving positive feedback that therapy is working well. I am appreciative of people who commit themselves from the start and take responsibility for their healing and in doing so improves the quality of their lives as well as the lives of their families. Here's to March 2020

22.01.2022 Mental health is an underserved cause in international aid for the same reasons it is still a taboo topic in most countries. First off, it has a stigma attached to it. If you suffer from a mental illness, the common conception is that theres something wrong with you, as a person, as a human being. While for more physical diseases, we separate the illness from the person, in case of mental disease its more difficult to do so. Since the disease affects the mind, this is under...standable to a certain extent but, at the same time, it doesnt make it less wrong. Secondly, mental health is perceived as a luxury good. If you suffer from depression, it means youre just a whiny person with all their basic needs satisfied. Doesnt it? Obviously, theres nothing more false than this statement, yet its worryingly common.

22.01.2022 Week 2 in lockdown and its all starting to feel real and too much. The cabin fever. The uncertainty of the future. The enormity of the crisis. The weight of decisions to be made. The bristle of short, frayed nerves. The information fatigue. The long telecons. The holding pattern. The emergencies we cant get to. The people we cant support or console. Perhaps you had big plans to use this time constructively. But it doesnt seem to be coming together fast enough. Your brain... wont sit still, there are new demands on your plate, your peopling bandwidth is at capacity, the dishes | laundry keep piling up, you have symptoms of something, you cant sleep, you oversleep (!) and the refrigerator relates to you on a first name basis. Hang in there inmates! The shifts are not only economical, professional, political, logistical and social, they are significantly personal. We thought we needed time, only to now realise it may be space, freedom, choice, peace, health, assurance and community we need most. Dont let the news, timelines, opinions, guidelines, advice and panic rush you. We are people in progress, pace yourself. Its still your race, its just asking to be run differently, intentionally, incrementally. #BusinessUnusual See more

21.01.2022 A drawing brought to me my one of my little patients.. "it's you and me" This picture symbolizes trust and love. For all that this little person has gone through, having her depict me this close to her is really something I am proud of. This is the real reward of the job.

17.01.2022 February Reflection- Over the past month Ive seen numerous families, woman and children. I am incredibly proud of those who have stepped out of the shadows and into the light. 15.01.2022 What is Play Therapy actually?... Play is to the child what talk is to the adult. Play therapy is a medium for expressing feelings, exploring relationships, describing experiences, disclosing wishes, and self-fulfillment. Children express themselves and their needs, relive their past, and connect with others through play. The use of toys enables children to transfer anxieties, fears, fantasies, and guilt to objects rather than people. In the process, children are safe from th...eir own feelings and reactions because play enables children to distance themselves from traumatic events and experiences. Play therapy play is an evidence-based approach to help children with social or emotional deficits learn to communicate better, express underlying feelings they may be struggling with, change their behaviour, develop problem-solving skills, and relate to others in positive ways. It is appropriate for children undergoing or witnessing stressful events in their lives, those struggling with academic and social problems, learning disabilities, behavioural disorders, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or anger; as well as those with attention deficit disorders, or who are on the autism spectrum.

13.01.2022 Everyday I am receiving more and more cases of bullying. If you suspect that your child is a bully, please make the effort to have the conversation. If you don't know how to approach the topic, ASK for help. I will make it my mission to help you. While taunting another child may be described as "innocent joking" by your child, it has a serious negative impact on someone else.... An increased number of young adults are struggling to function healthily as a result of school bullying. Let's work together to make a difference. #stopbullies #bekind #mychildisyourchild

11.01.2022 Identifying emotions and labeling feelings allows your child more control to overcome difficulties.
