24.01.2022 We couldn't be more proud of our crew that took the seniors 2nd place at the NSW RFS State Championships representing us and the NSW RFS Illawarra District. Although the category might be classed as seniors, Daniel, Matt, Scott and Bryce, who we wouldn't dream of calling old have put many hours into training, fine-tuning their skills and it shows with them bringing home silver after entering into the RFS State Championships for the first time since any of the brigade's senio...rs can remember. The crew wanted to thank the other competitors, event organisers and sponsors for a great day and congratulate Oakville Rural Fire Brigade on taking out 1st! #trainingfor2022startsnow

23.01.2022 A big Happy Father's Day to all the amazing Dads that volunteer for our brigade, and to the Dads behind the scenes that support our volunteers. Have a wonderful day! #nswrfs

23.01.2022 Now is a good time to start preparing your property for the bushfire season. Keeping your lawns mowed and your gutters clear is a great way to get started. Can you pick any other tips for this cabin?

21.01.2022 Always follow the advice. If your plan is to leave - leave early. If you are told to shelter in place - shelter in place. It could save your life

17.01.2022 Congratulations to our members who were presented Citations on behalf of the Premier of NSW and Commissioner today for their contribution to the bushfire fighting efforts of the 2019-2020 season. The bushfires of last summer were undoubtedly the worst natural disaster in the living memory of our State. Without the actions and efforts of people like you, the toll would have been far greater. Thankfully, the current bushfire season is looking calm as a result of some much welcomed rain

16.01.2022 Our latest fire call from Wednesday night on Mt Keira. Part of our crew can be seen cooling down the van after extinguishing the flames with the rest assisting police by combing the immediate locality

14.01.2022 Our crews were busy conducting a hazard reduction burn today in the vicinity of Brindabella Drive, Horsley. This helps not only prepare the environment around Horsley, but enables crews to maintain skills ahead of the fire season. Last week saw our crews in the North of the Illawarra, and with several more hazard reduction burns planned for the Illawarra you may see smoke in areas from time to time. All hazard reduction burns are advertised ahead of their commencement. Remember to report any unattended fires on 000.

12.01.2022 One year ago today at 5:30pm we were asked to pull a crew together immediately and respond to Colo Heights. Whilst some of our members had joined crews further north in the months leading up to this, this was our first Mt Keira crew being sent to fight the big one. Most of our crew arrived at the station directly from their day jobs without a chance to even grab dinner. It was a long drive and we had no idea what scene we would be arriving at. We listened to the radios and co...uld hear that the fire was spreading fast. As we approached, the sun had disappeared and all that we could see were glowing trees on either side of the road. Some of the photos below are of the end of the shift when the sun had risen again. At the end, a bus came to collect the tired Illawarra crews so that we could rest and our six trucks could be left behind to continue fighting into the next day. We had no idea that this was just the beginning

11.01.2022 What a weekend! Members of our brigade were treated to the experience of a lifetime on Saturday. The wind was unbelievable but the views were spectacular. Thank you to BridgeClimb Sydney for treating us to some quality time together!

10.01.2022 It’s a great time to discuss your specific bushfire survival plan. Yesterday our friends at Valley Drive invited us out to talk about their plans and the best ways to prepare their properties for a bushfire event. It was a good opportunity to familiarise ourselves with their area, give them some tips on what they could do now and what they should do in an emergency. Thanks for the banana bread!

10.01.2022 It’s Get Ready Weekend folks! Come down and see our team at the Botanic Gardens tomorrow from 10am. We’ll be able to talk to you about your bushfire survival plan and give you some helpful pointers. We look forward to seeing you!

08.01.2022 Mt Keira Brigade was at the Botanic Gardens for the Get Ready Weekend event on Saturday 19th Sept, we had plenty of support from members of the public, who came to find out about protecting their property in the coming fire season, we are always available to discuss any concerns you may have, you can contact our community liaison, David on 0452 262 726 or make contact via Facebook, there are great resources also available at: https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare

02.01.2022 Some of our team spent the evening last night training for different situations that they might encounter in a structural fire. We are always trying to fine tune our skills to provide the best service to our community
