Host Karen Morrissey, a strong advocate ...for geotourism and the establishment of the geopark, showed Minister MacTiernan around the Granites. They were joined by Vince Jones (Chair Badimia Land Aboriginal Corporation) and Warren Walsh (Immediate Past Chair). What a great setting for the photograph. See more

21.01.2022 Good news, phase 3 of eased restrictions take effect 6 June
19.01.2022 COME & HOLIDAY IN THE NORTH Some certainty provided for North West communities Member for North West Central, Vince Catania welcomed todays much awaited a...nnouncement by the Premier to bring forward the lifting of regional boundaries to Friday 29 May 2020 for all WA regions, except the Kimberley and Commonwealth bio security regions, set to be lifted on Friday 5 June 2020. Vince said he was very pleased to see common sense had finally prevailed with most decimated small businesses in the north now with some certainty, and able to leverage off that little bit of extra economic activity over the WA Day long weekend, desperately needed to try to re-build and stay alive. With an influx of visitors expected to head north, I would urge the Premier to also bring forward the rolling back of restrictions on cafes, bars, restaurants, play grounds and skate parks to ensure towns are in a position to be able to adequately cater to everyone, including the holiday experiences they expect. Congratulations to everyone on a job well done, particularly our very patient Tourism industry and small businesses for graciously understanding the need to protect the health and well-being of our communities, while their businesses and livelihoods took an enormous hit, with some unlikely to recover. Now more than ever, our regional small businesses and tourism sector need our support. I encourage everyone to help play their part in supporting and re-building the tourism industry and many small family businesses. I urge visitors to the regions to be compassionate and understanding of the very difficult times being faced by small regional businesses and to be accepting of the new normal and compromises we all face. Today is a milestone in our pathway to recovery and we look forward to welcoming everyone to the North. WHAT TO DO -Stay inside and shelter in the strongest, safest part of your house or evacuation centre. -Keep your emergency kit with you. -Stay away from doors and windows, and keep them closed. -Stay indoors until the ALL CLEAR is given by authorities. ---AND--- A BLUE ALERT is current for people in or near Beacon, Cunderdin, Kellerberin, Koorda, Merredin, Mt Marshall, Nungarin, Southern Cross and Trayning in the Goldfields Midlands. Although there is no immediate danger you need to start preparing for dangerous weather and keep up to date. ---AND--- An ALL CLEAR advice is current for people in or near Minilya Roadhouse to Carnarvon. The threat has passed but take care to avoid the dangers caused by damage. CYCLONE DETAILS Tropical cyclone Seroja continues to move inland towards Dalwallinu The core of tropical cyclone Seroja is moving inland towards Dalwallinu. Wind gusts to 170 km/h were reported near Kalbarri during landfall, but the cyclone has now weakened to category 2. Seroja is travelling at around 65 kilometres per hour, and significant impacts are expected to extend inland through to Wheat Belt communities overnight. The cyclone will weaken as it moves further inland on Monday but is still likely to result in damaging wind gusts, particularly to the north and east of the track, and heavy rain close to the track, as it moves through the eastern Wheat Belt, southern Goldfields and South East Coastal district. A Severe Weather Warning is current for areas to the southeast of the Tropical Cyclone Warning area. Hazards: Destructive winds with gusts to 150 kilometres per hour extend 90 kilometres east of the centre of the cyclone. Destructive gusts above 125 kilometres per hour may extend inland as far as a line from Dalwallinu to Paynes Find overnight, including Morawa. Towns in this area very rarely experience wind gusts this strong. Gales with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour extend 150 kilometres from the centre of the cyclone to the east, and extend west to the coast around Geraldton. Gales will extend further inland into the southern Gascoyne and northern Wheatbelt overnight. Seroja is moving fast, so weather conditions will deteriorate rapidly as it approaches. Heavy to intense rainfall and flash flooding are likely close to the track of Seroja during the remainder of Sunday evening and Monday. Even though the tropical cyclone has crossed the coast, abnormally high tides could still cause minor flooding at the coast between Cape Cuvier and Jurien Bay. The threat of serious flooding has passed. Dangerous surf and beach erosion may still be occurring between Denham and Jurien Bay. ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS The following roads are closed: -Great Eastern Highway from Tammin to Coolgardie -Bindoon-Moora from Bindoon to Moora -Shark Bay Road from North West Coastal Highway to Denham -Monkey Mia Road from Denham to Monkey Mia -North West Coastal Highway from Carnarvon to Geraldton -Brand Highway from Dewar Road to Geraldton -Midlands Road from Moora to Brand Highway -Indian Ocean Drive from Lancelin Road to Brand Highway -Geraldton-Mt Magnet Road from Mount Magnet to Geraldton -Great Northern Highway from Muchea to Mount Magnet EVACUATION CENTRES The Department of Communities has set up three evacuation centres: -Irwin Recreation Centre, 1 Ridley Street, Port Denison -Carnarvon Civic Centre, Camel Place, Carnarvon -Shark Bay Recreation Centre located on Francis Road, Denham People who are self-isolating or quarantining due to COVID-19 should find alternative suitable premises and wear a mask. If this is not possible, proceed to the evacuation centre and identify yourself to centre staff immediately on arrival. Please take any essential items such as medications and identification to the evacuation centre. Pets (except recognised assistance animals) are not allowed inside evacuation centres for health and safety reasons, so you should make alternative arrangements for them in a secure and safe place within a household. 05.01.2022 Where will your next trip be to?
05.01.2022 We drove into a big open bowl surrounded by colourful breakaways of red and white rock. We pulled up and as we usually do, had a bit of an explore, and took so...me photos, admiring the colours on the rock walls as the sun slid lower and the heat of the day abated slightly. Visitors explored the Mt Magnet granites on a road-trip recently. This iconic spot can be found along the Miners Pathway Mt Magnet Tourist Trail. A short 4km drive along the road to Cue, The Granites is a place of strong cultural significance to the Badimia tribe. Mount Magnet Visitor Centre, Jarrad Seng Photography

03.01.2022 Mt Magnet mobile office As WA holidays at home, the Mount Magnet Visitor Centre is one to visit. The rich mining and pastoral history is showcased to perfecti...on - created by tireless volunteers. It is also great to see the Mt Magnet community get behind the petition calling for an independent review of road signage. I popped into Challa Station to see Debbie Dowden and Ashley Dowden (best cake ever!!) and also caught up with Lara Jensen to collect the pages of signed petitions. Lets keep it going! 02.01.2022 Stay safe and drive safe. With more Western Australians exploring our State these school holidays, there may be more regional road trips. Remain alert of you...r surroundings and other vehicles, and take care while driving. You can travel in a car with friends and family, but remember to also be COVID-19 safe on the drive and road stops. Wash your hands regularly. Consider packing disinfectant wipes for the trip. Keep your car clean and sanitised. Postpone travelling if you feel unwell.
