14.01.2022 David Brazil presents Re-Take Blue Mountains, a project started with the collection of stunning early 20th Century photographs of the Blue Mountains. A process of re-photographing and re-imagining the images saw the creation of new artworks and an exhibition that shines a light on the pioneers of Blue Mountains landscape photography, our community and landscape and helps to preserve these images. The artist has amassed a collection of stunning original postcards, view books, ...glass slides and stereographs of Blue Mountains natural locations. Curation and collection The collection was geographically limited to the Upper Blue Mountains, Wentworth Falls to Jenolan Caves All images are over 100 years old No expensive images, cards or collections. Just what I could find. Emphasis on natural views rather than built up areas These images and locations constitute the raw material for the creative process, which comprise a combination of "straight" digital re-photographs, along with analogue and digital techniques to create original and compelling photographic artworks. The images in Re-Take re-interpret the original locations to create a picture of how the Blue Mountains region has changed over the past 100 years. David Brazil is an accomplished photographer, designer educator and environmentalist. He has twice exhibited at Head On Photo Festival, Sydney as well as having work exhibited at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre Gallery, The Heritage Centre, Blackheath and was the Artist in Residence for the 2018 Altitude Project. Davids vision is to use photography to foster a deeper connection and appreciation of our wild places. Re-Take Blue Mountains was Awarded a 2019-20 Blue Mountains City of the Arts Trust grant. A full colour catalogue will be available for sale throughout the two-week exhibition including a talk by the artist
