22.01.2022 With the crazy weather the region experienced yesterday, some trees around the Park Lake Reserve have felt the full force of Mother Nature! As you can see from the photos, these are sizeable. Whilst these will be fenced off and cleaned up, please be mindful of these areas until this happens. Thankfully, there was no damage to any of the facilities!

18.01.2022 SENIOR SATURDAY MIXED PENNANT - Court Allocations - Round 3 - 14/11/20

18.01.2022 A big congratulations to Mick Kennedy who was last night awarded life membership of the Mt Prospect District Tennis Association. Mick has been heavily involved with the Association for the last 25+ years. Throughout this time, Mick has been President of the Association for 3 years, committee member for 16+ years, player for 25+ years, and was one of the drivers behind the Twilight Corporate Cup being introduced. Without this competition, the Association would well and truly ...not be in the position that it finds itself in now. Despite the success of the Twilight Competition, arguably Mick’s greatest contribution to the Association during his Presidency was that not only did he take over at a time when stability was needed across the Association, but also he was in charge at the height of the drought and water restrictions that were occurring, which nearly resulted in the grass courts being lost. Despite all the challenges that were occurring, Mick ensured that a solution was always found to keep the grass courts from being lost. This included trucking water in from external sources (you can imagine the difficulties and cost associated with this during a drought). Understanding that this wasn’t sustainable long term, Mick set about working with Goulburn Valley Water, Hepburn Shire Council and the Friends of Park Lake to obtain a permit to be able to pump water from the Lake at the bottom of the reserve, and create a longer term solution. Despite some pushbacks, Mick was able to obtain this permit. However it was soon discovered that the depth of the lake needed to be increased to meet the demands of watering the courts. Mick was instrumental in utilising his network to get this work done. Without this thinking and action, it’s not an understatement to say that we may not have the fantastic grass courts we have today, which could have resulted in potentially the Association ceasing to exist, and future generations missing out on playing tennis at Mt Prospect, and on natural grass courts. Mick has also had all of his children (and wife Sally) play Juniors and Seniors at the Association. Whilst they participated in Juniors, Mick was always assisting where needed. Despite slowing down in more recent years, Mick is a very decorated player, having played in the Mt Prospect side that won the A Grade Country week title in Ballarat (played at Mt Prospect). This was the last Senior Ballarat Country Week that was played, and first time that Mt Prospect had won the A Grade title. Whilst the above doesn’t fully comprehend the contribution that Mick has made across the past 25+ years, it does provide a snapshot which is more than impressive. It was great to have Mick’s family on hand to celebrate this great achievement! Well done Mick!

06.01.2022 The Grand Final of the Mixed and Men’s Divisions of the Community Bank Creswick & District Twilight Corporate Cup was played last night. Unfortunately mother nature wasn’t on our side, and rain hampered playing conditions, not allowing the matches to be completed fully. As a result, both teams that finished higher on the ladder were successful, due recognition for their strong season. Congratulations to Langdon Building and Driscoll Joinery on taking the title for the Mixed and Men’s divisions respectively. A big thank you to all teams and participants involved in the Twilight Corporate Cup, we look forward to welcoming everyone back next season!

04.01.2022 On Tuesday, 10 lucky participants (and their parents) from the Associations ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Community play program got the chance to travel down to Melbourne Park and attend the Australian Open, as part of the Kids on Court program. Along with receiving free access to the event, these children had the chance to hit on Rod Laver Arena prior to the first round match between world number 2 Karolina Pliskova from the Czech Republic, and Kristina Mladenovic from France. Maeve Slater was also lucky enough to toss the coin before Maria Sharapova and Donna Vekic, who also played on Rod Laver Arena! A big thank you to Tynan Haintz for organising this amazing experience for the children, along with the Hot Shots program through the year!
