25.01.2022 National NAIDOC Week 2020 celebrations will be held from the 8-15 November.
24.01.2022 The NSW Supreme Court decision to deny permission for tomorrows planned Black Lives Matter rally to proceed is disappointing from a freedom of rights perspecti...ve, but this does not diminish or dilute the message we all intended to send. We remain determined and will lead our own initiatives to send the message - and we will be heard - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Since 1991, 432 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, women and children have died in custody. Take a moment to process that number. 432. Thats 432 people who have been apprehended but somehow, while in police or government care, they have lost their lives. It is hard to believe, but sadly, it is true. Your message can still be heard. NSWALC has initiated a national campaign for tomorrow to honour those 432 people who are no longer with us. The #FourThreeTwo campaign calls on all Australians to head to their driveways, balconies, verandas or wherever you wish to pay your respects and stop for a minutes silence at 4:32pm on Saturday afternoon. Use social media to send a message that deaths in custody can no longer be tolerated. Post your videos, photos or a simple note using #FourThreeTwo and #432 Black Lives Matter. Aboriginal Lives Matter. Together we can make a difference for all

21.01.2022 PLEASE SHARE: I NEED YOUR STORIES My latest art project is ramping up a notch, with the community stories component now in planning. One of the things I love to... do in my work is weave stories of the landscape into the works - responding directly to them or using them in the soundtracks. The stories are archived in the documentation of my process on my websites. Ive been working this way now for about 12 years. PULSE OF THE WETLAND is documenting the recovery of the Macquarie Marshes from years of drought and last years fire. I spent my first night in the Marshes in February, when it was bone dry, returning again in early May. Ill continue to go out between now and October/November to gather more video and sound recordings using my under-water camera/ hyrdophones, time-lapse cameras, drone, 360-degree camera and a range of other microphones - designed to create a series of digital media works that present the Marshes in a way not normally experienced. The finished works will be presented back to local communities and in overseas exhibitions in planning for 2021. The stories Im seeking will be recorded as audio. Id love to hear from anyone who grew up near the Marshes or has worked/lived in the area, and has a love of the wetlands or lower Wambuul/Macquarie in some way. At this stage, Im planning to do a road trip from Dubbo in AUGUST to gather the stories (Im happy to consider Warren, Quambone, Carinda, Coonamble, Gulargambone), if I can start to gather contacts and interest now. Message me if you have a story or know someone who might be interested. You can flick through the attached A4 flyer to those who arent on Facebook - just right-click to save the document. www.ecopulse.art.blog (you can download the flyer as a PDF from the top of the homepage of the website too)

19.01.2022 With the anniversary of Sorry Day on Wednesday 26 May, a day of remembrance and commemoration held to highlight the impact of past policies of forcible removal ...on the Stolen Generations, their families, and their communities, Story Box Library is sharing the stories of First Nations people, to help families and children everywhere learn more. Read , read by Trevor Jamieson, our Free Access Story for domestic audiences this month: storyboxlibrary.com.au/stories/sorry-day "Stories of the Stolen Generation and the auspicious National Apology are an integral part of Australia's past and present. They must be taught and shared with the next generation of Australian children if we are to grow and move forward as a nation." - from author Coral Vass
19.01.2022 The second round of registrations for the NSWALC Food Relief Campaign will open at 9am tomorrow. Register via our website at www.alc.org.au. If you dont have i...nternet access, call the phone hotline between 10am-4pm. If you have already registered last week, please do not register again. There is no need. Your details have already been logged. Please note, priority has been given to communities most vulnerable to an outbreak of COVID-19, and communities most vulnerable to the food and hygiene product shortages caused by COVID-19 related mass purchasing across Australia. Communities on former Aboriginal missions and reserves were identified as high priority, particularly those in regional and remote areas, and those with poor food security. Priority is also being given to people over 60. Our Elders need our support now more than ever. However, you should still register as you may be able to receive one of the additional packages weve been able to source. We are currently looking at extending the eligibility to other groups of people, but this will depend on us getting enough supplies.

18.01.2022 For Event and location details, head to http://alc.org.au//lalc-members-urged-to-rally-for-water-r Communities across NSW are urged to attend a Day of Action on Sunday 3rd March calling for urgent action to address the Murray Darling Basin water crisis. Our communities in the far west are close to running out of water and the water they do have access to is putrid and unhealthy.... Recently, hundreds of thousands of fish have died at Menindee Lakes including iconic Murray Cod and Golden Perch. The devastation of the Murray Darling is not the result of drought, but long term water mismanagement and theft. "We have listened to our networks and it is time to stand together to tell the government enough is enough. Clean water is a basic human right. Our people are being deprived of that and their health is in jeopardy. Enough is enough. It is time to fix this problem once and for all," said NSWALC Chair Roy Ah-See. We are urging all LALC members to support our calls for: - The establishment of a Commonwealth Royal Commission into the management of the Murray Darling Basin. Only a Commonwealth Royal Commission will have the powers to investigate how this situation could have been allowed to deteriorate so badly and recommend long term action to restore the health of our rivers and the communities who depend on them. - A State level special inquiry to address the mismanagement of water and our river systems in NSW. - Suspension of water trading in the Barwon Darling River system. - Involvement, through our Land Councils, in all decisions about water management and planning. You can show your support by attending one of the public events being held on Sunday March 3 at Bourke, Menindee, Walgett, Dareton, Dubbo and Wilcannia.

17.01.2022 Reconciliation Australia's theme for National Reconciliation Week is : "More than a word. Reconciliation takes action." It urges people to focus on what action ...is required on the journey to achieving equality between First Nations and non-First Nations people. Reconciliation will continue to be just another word unless we all take practical steps to put it into action. This #NRW2021, what actions could you take towards reconciliation?

NSWALC would like to remind all members of the upcoming state election and the... importance of being enrolled to vote. The NSW electoral roll closes on Monday 4 March at 6pm. If you miss this deadline you will not be eligible to vote in the upcoming NSW Election on 23 March 2019. Dont miss this opportunity to have your say. To enrol to vote, or to update your enrolment if you have recently moved, go to the website of the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) at: https://aec.gov.au/enrol/ Alternatively, you can download the following form and return to any AEC office: https://www.aec.gov.au/enrol/files/er016w-nsw.pdf Forms are also available from any Australia Post or AEC office. The links to these are also available on the NSWALC website. The following people are eligible to vote in the NSW election. you are an Australian citizen aged 18 years and over, and have lived at your address for at least one month There are some concerning policies coming out from parties, most recently, a disturbing plan from One Nation. We need to make sure these candidates do not have a voice in a Parliament that represents us. NSWALC encourages all Aboriginal people in NSW to enrol to vote if they are eligible and have a say in the future of the State, and most importantly to stand up for the issues that affect our People and our Communities. It is essential that our voices are heard. #NSWPOL

08.01.2022 On the 11th anniversary of the Apology, we remember and acknowledge the suffering perpetrated against Aboriginal peoples, particularly those of the Stolen Gener...ations. We have all seen the consequences of forced removal from family, community and culture. We know these impacts last not only throughout a lifetime, but into the lives of the children and grandchildren of survivors. But even today, the number of our kids in out-of-home care continues to increase. Aboriginal children are now ELEVEN times more likely than non-Indigenous children to be removed from home. Yet we know that healing for Aboriginal families happens within our own communities. We have the solutions to keep our kids safe. In the upcoming NSW election, were calling for four key policies to improve the lives of our kids and families: https://www.absec.org.au/news-what-we-want-from-the-NSW-ele
