20.01.2022 Happy Early Childhood Educators day to all of our wonderful staff xx
20.01.2022 NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians. NAIDOC Week is held in the first full week of July. It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Ind...igenous Australians make to our country and our society. So, over the past week our Kindy have been focusing on the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders by exploring and investigating a variety of creative avenues. They explored the tradition of dot paining with boomerangs and native Australian animals, read dreamtime stories and even created their very own Hedgehogs using clay, based around a book on the Indigenous discovering of this animal. Its been an amazing week filled with storys, dance, games, art and ceremony, for the children to immerse themselves in culture, to explore diversity, heritage, background and tradition as ways of understanding. 20.01.2022 Lets make a stand together!
20.01.2022 Definitely some pearls of wisdom in here for those mums dealing with separation anxiety as their little ones begin care.
18.01.2022 The children at Mulberry Tree have been very busy over the last week creating special gifts for Mother's Day. To all of our wonderful mothers out there we hope you have a great day this Sunday!
17.01.2022 Over the school holidays we had the pleasure of having Jennibe come and visit at our Broome and Roebuck centres. Kimmy and Rusty (both of indigenous heritage) have been performing together for the last decade and deliver a program around respect for diversity and cultural competence. They use songs in the languages of the First Peoples of Australia (Dharug, Aniawan, Dhanggati, & Wiradjuri), dreamtime stories, cultural resources, indigenous games and a yarning circle to deliver this cultural experience for the children. It was amazing to see how these performances were translated for all the age group with the babies being soothed by song and the older children excitedly engaging with the games. Thank you Kimmy and Rusty for being so warm and for sharing your beautiful experiences around Indigenous culture.
16.01.2022 Shinju Matsuri in Broome this weekend past.
16.01.2022 We invited our parents and neighbours to support Cancer Care WA Australias Biggest Morning Tea. The children have spent the last week making decorations and planning the menu. We gathered resources from OSHC and set up our own Mulberry Tree Caf. Families have joined us in baking cakes for us to serve and we had tea and coffee to go. We were joined by neighbours and office workers, grandparents, families, friends and a dog. J The sun shone and we all had a wonderful morning spending quality time together.
15.01.2022 At Mulberry Tree Cannington, our educators wore yellow for R U OK Day. The children also showed their support by coming in their bright yellow shirts. About R U OK Day Conversations need to happen every day. Encourage more people to ask R U OK? Staying connected and having meaningful conversations is something we can all do. You dont need to be an expert - just a good friend and a great listener. So, if you notice someone who might be struggling - start a conversation.
15.01.2022 Times without shoes are so important for our kids!!

13.01.2022 The children in the babies room at Mulberry Tree Leeming have been using their 5 senses as they explore their garden wonderland. They have been smelling, looking and touching things we find in the garden and tasting yummy fruits, vegetables and herbs from the garden! Some friends even brought in things from their gardens at home to share. We have had lots of fun exploring different textures, smells and tastes. I wonder what we will explore next!?
13.01.2022 This weekend past was the Annual Broome Dragon Boat Regatta. About the event: The Broome Dragon Boat Regatta is one of the major events on Broomes sporting calendar and is also Broome Rotarys biggest annual fund-raising event. It is a family friendly day open to everyone to participate or just watch all the action. The combined participation and support of Broome community groups, businesses and supporters is a vital ingredient for making the Dragon Boat Regatta such a succ...essful event. Mulberry Tree have two beautiful services in the Kimberly region of Broome and partaking in the Dragon Boat Races is an annual tradition. Giving back and bonding go hand-in-hand; therefore partaking in this great event is one of many ways Mulberry Tree team build and give back to their local community. Unfortunately, wild winds cut the event short, but nevertheless a great time out with the team.
11.01.2022 At Mulberry Tree Broome we are excited to announce that we have been inspired by the Montessori Philosophy and are now creating our Montessori classrooms. One of our first steps as we transition to a Montessori Center is to create the prepared environment, which is characterised by its abundance of order, beauty, accessibility, and availability of real materials as opposed to toys. The materials are displayed on open shelves, in order, without clutter, and each object has ...a purpose and special location. It has been an amazing journey watching the Montessori classroom transform with new materials being introduced by Miss Faith the Montessori Teacher, everyday. She is presenting the materials to the children as gifts for them to explore, engage and learn from, with a special unavailing of each resource. Its a beautiful dance to watch between Miss faith and the children as she demonstrates how to use each material so the children can master the steps themselves.
10.01.2022 A smoking ceremony is an ancient custom among Indigenous Australians that involves burning various native plants to produce smoke, which is believed to have cleansing properties and the ability to ward off bad spirits. Today we had the pleasure of having one of our families come and visit to perform this beautiful ceremony at both our centres. The children were mesmerised by the smoke and it was a beautiful sight to see children in awe of this spiritual tradition. Thank you, Ainsley Oconnor and Martina Badal for taking time out of your day and spending the morning with us so that we could experience this tradition. We feel truly blessed.
10.01.2022 They say that affirmations refer primarily to the practice of positive thinking and self-empowermentfostering a belief that "a positive mental attitude supported by affirmations will achieve success in anything." As such at Mulberry Tree Wembley families and staff sent kind affirmations because we all know that in childcare the going can get tough and these words are enough to strengthen and transform ones outlook.
08.01.2022 The purpose of the Sensorial activities in Montessori is to help the child in his efforts to sort out the many varied impressions given by the senses. Knobbed Cylinders - This set of four blocks, each with its appropriate series of cylinder insets, help to develop the childs visual discrimination of size. They form the following graduation of exercises - from easy to difficult: decrease in diameter and height, diameter only, decrease in diameter while increase in height, and decrease in height only. The knobbed cylinders indirectly prepare the child for writing, through the handling of the cylinders by their knobs, and prepares them for later work in Math, through observation of the regular differences in the cylinders.
07.01.2022 Mulberry Tree Scarborough and their families took the time to send affirmations to their educators. These honest and grateful testaments of Early Childhood Educators efforts truly remind us that not all heroes wear capes... although... on Educator Appreciation Day, Scarborough was filled with small Super Heroes, dressed in their hero best. A super way to say Thank you...
07.01.2022 Yesterday at Mulberry Tree Childcare Karrinyup some of our friends headed out on a mission to Woolworths to get some missing lunch ingredients! We wrote our shopping list and learnt how to safely cross the road before heading in to the Karrinyup Shopping Centre. We found Woolworths quickly and found all the ingredients we needed, we also found aisle 8! We then decided to go through the self-checkout and learnt that we must scan the bar code before we can pay! Such a fun experience with so many learning opportunities created! We cant wait for our next trip!

04.01.2022 We are so excited to welcome Suzanne OConnell to our Mulberry Tree Broome with her Kimberley Garden & Food Safari project. The program incorporates indigenous language and arts and promotes indigenous health with early intervention. With help from Yawuru people we are installing a community garden at the centre. We are learning about edible plants whilst using traditional language, maintaining the garden and learning how to cook healthy simple traditional meals. At Mulberry Tree Broome
03.01.2022 Mulberry Tree believe that collaboration and co-operation between staff is the key to success. As such, this year, all Mulberry Tree teams took a weekend, teamb...uilding retreat in the beachy suburb of Lancelin. Whilst some people see team building activities as a nice break from work, they do have a purpose: and that is to develop the skills and knowledge of staff. The drive to Lancelin in centre groups are enjoyable, fun activities which enable employees to get to know each other, create a better understanding of each other and break down walls of mistrust by encouraging people to focus on what they have in common. Anyone who has be fortunate to bear witness to a motivational speaker knows how these people can uplift an audience through exemplary communication skills. Our teams were fortunate to be a part of two separate presentations: Our first motivational speaker, Frane Lessac who is a U.S born author, illustrator and painter who currently lives and works in Western Australia. Fran Lessac has published over 40 books for children and won numerous awards for her illustrations. Franes own self-belief, hard work and perseverance made an impact and left a lasting impression with our educators. Our other motivational speaker, Amanda (AJ) Betts is an award-winning author, teacher and cyclist, living in Perth but originally from Queensland. Amanda Betts is a young adult fiction author who reminded us that we choose what (our career) we do and reaffirmed the importance of loving what we do, inspiring our team to find their passion. These outstanding authors entertained, inspired, and without a doubt, made a positive impact on our teams motivation, productivity and workplace morale. We all know that life can be filled with professional and personal challenges and from time to time, each and everyone one of us can do with a little motivation to help us stay focused. We believe that after completing team building activities together, employees better understand each others strengths, weaknesses, and interests. This is because team building activities can help break down barriers and get employees to start trusting one another by putting them in situations that encourage them to interact, problem solve, and share ideas, in order to achieve a specific goal. As such, our teams enjoyed competing in a challenging bus rally around the town of Lancelin. Our purpose, as a service provided, was to create momentum and help our teams feel good about themselves, increase employees confidence in their, and their teams, ability whilst affirming that the organisation is willing to invest in them.
03.01.2022 Active involvement in learning builds childrens understandings of concepts and the creative thinking and inquiry processes that are necessary for lifelong learning Active learning at its best!
02.01.2022 Street Libraries are a beautiful home for books, planted in a front yard. Street Libraries are a window into the mind of a community; books come and go; no-one needs to check them in or out. People can simply reach in and take what interests them; when they are done, they can return them to the Street Library network, or pass them on to friends. If anyone has a book or two that they think others would enjoy, they can just pop it into any Street Library they happen to be walk...ing past. They are a symbol of trust and hope a tiny vestibule of literary happiness. So feel free to drop off some books and come and see whats in our street library located at the front door of our centre and see what literary happiness you will discover! Special mention to the Mulberry Tree kids club for the design and decoration.
