25.01.2022 Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It is also the start of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, which ends on 10 December, International Human Rights Day. One in four Australian women experience physical and/or sexual violence by an intimate partner this is an alarming statistic.... Domestic and family violence is rarely experienced as a single incident. Many people experience multiple forms of violence, abuse and neglect, either co-occurring or at different stages across their life. The COVID-19 pandemic has also elevated the risk to victims and increased the barriers to seeking help. We need to support domestic and family violence victims by providing them access to the critical support and services they need, through the pandemic and beyond. Through Mummies Paying It Forward, you are helping to provide critical support to women who experience domestic violence. Many women and children flee their homes with only the clothes on their back. We turn around callouts from social workers within 48 hours with requests for things like clothing, nappies, prams and formula that can directly help these women and children in need. On this day, let’s reflect on the issue of violence against women, its impacts and how we can strive to make a difference. Currently we have some gaps in our ability to provide support to some of the most vulnerable families within the community. Mummies Paying It Forward continually strives to assist families with the basics and we currently have little or no supply for some of the most essential items. Were currently in need of non perishable food (including baby food & formula), toiletries and childrens socks.... If you can add one or two (or more!) of the below items in with your next shop (or online) and drop off at Mummies HQ at Storage King Rozelle or Storage King Revesby, itll go a long way in helping vulnerable families in the upcoming days and weeks. 21.01.2022 A tale of two baby girls This week we got an urgent call from a social worker at Bankstown Hospital for two different struggling mums, both expecting baby girls. This trolley is full of items for the two newborns. They will now have nappies, clothes to carry them through the next 12 months and cot linen, plus toiletries for the mums. 21.01.2022 Fundraiser thank you Thank you to this group of mums from All Hallows School Five Dock who hosted a cocktails & canvas art class fundraiser and raised $350. This money will go a long way to helping purchase essentials for babies and children in need.

Marie from our committee dropped down to Mummies HQ to see how our stocks of Christmas gifts were going. 18.01.2022 [Laughter therapy] With all the craziness of life at the moment, I just wanted to share this with all the mums out there! The first one happened to me last week. Was slightly freaking out that my throat was sore but remembered that 20 minutes earlier, my Darth Vader voice had come out after trying to have a conversation with a teenager about their school work. Lets all agree that teachers need to be paid a gazillion times more for doing this teaching gig day in... day out. Big virtual hugs to all our members and their family. You obviously like this page because you care about people doing it tough, but have you thought about how you could help by donating your time? We at Mummies love growing our incredible team of volunteers, and are currently on the look out for "Shelf Helpers" on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday in Rozelle.... It is super-easy, will only take an hour or so of your time each week and is a great way to get the kids involved too! We are recruiting helpers to clear the shelves at our Storage King unit in Rozelle. You need to be in good health (the heaviest thing to lift would be a car seat or stroller) and be good at steering trolleys (its an art but can be learned!) 12.01.2022 Your kindness in action! We recently partnered with The Generous & The Grateful to deliver this baby pack to an RFS firefighter family on the south coast. They lost their own home whilst dad was out saving others. They have a toddler and are expecting a newborn in July. 10.01.2022 [TEMPORARY CLOSURE] After much discussion, the Mummies Paying It Forward Committee has made the difficult decision to close temporarily and will not be accepting any donations at ALL drop off points effective immediately. With the current coronavirus health crisis, we have made this decision to ensure the safety of all those involved including our volunteers who work tirelessly to help those most in need. It wasnt a decision we have made lightly but one we hope decreases th...e risk of transmission through the mummies community and our society. 08.01.2022 TOYS & CHILDRENS BOOKS We are very happy to announce that we can now accept donations of toys and childrens books again! Here is the lovely Terry from Peninsula Seniors Toy Recyclers. who takes most of our toys. Terry says they are very short of toys, and hes able to reinstate weekly pick ups now that hes recovered from his knee operation.... Please note that due to space restrictions we can only accept toys smaller than 50cm wide. We also cannot accept second hand stuffed toys due to hygiene & dust mite issues. Donations can be dropped at either Storage King Rozelle (7 days a week) or Storage King Revesby (open 6 days a week). Please check their websites for opening hours.

She was so appreciative and excited about dropping it straight to the parents and baby. Their current pram is missing a wheel! Brighter Futures is an early intervention program building resilience in vulnerable families with young children. The program focusses on ensuring children can live safely in their homes by prev...enting and overcoming domestic violence, substance misuse and parental mental health issues. 02.01.2022 Community Our volunteers were overwhelmed by the generosity and support provided by Boundary Lane Childrens Centre in Newtown, with boxes and boxes of childrens essentials donated this week. From nappies, wipes, clothes, pyjamas, blankets..... such a delight to open every box and will make beautiful additions to so many of our clothing packs headed out to struggling young families. Shes found herself with extra time on her hands during the pandemic but cant really get out into the community, so thought that volunteering at home would suit perfectly.
