22.01.2022 West Australian Kendo Renmei - a SAD day! Today, is the last Kendo training to be held at the Budokan Academy due to the sale of the property.... Budokan Academy was the founding dojo for the West Australian Kendo Renmei (WAKR) in 1985. The WAKR became an incorporated association in September 1986. It was the first incorporated Kendo Renmei in Australia, even prior to the AKR becoming an incorporated body. Members of the BA Kendo club will be absorbed into other Kendo clubs within WA. Our Iaido and Jodo clubs (also the founding clubs in WA) will take up residence, as of the 6th July, in a new dojo at the Southern River College gymnasium. Monday nights: 1830- 2000 will be Jodo followed by Iaido from 2000 till 2130. Wednesday night: 1830- 2000 will be Iaido followed by Jodo from 2000 till 2130. The last official Jodo and Iaido events at the old dojo will be on the 4th July (Jodo) and 5th July (Iaido). Iaido will finish off with a Yondan Shinsa (3 students) which will be the first ever Iaido Yondan Shinsa to be held in Australia without and input from Japanese sensei. At some point, I will update our website: www.budokan.com.au

This means that Kendo training will resume tomorrow on Monday 22nd at 7:35pm! Wednesday training will also recommence on the 24th also at 7:35pm. The alter start time is to ensure that we minimise our interactions with other sporting clubs who also share the gymnasium space. As we implement new rules to ensure our members and those training with us are practi...sing in a safe environment, there will be changes to our regular training schedule and the way we set up and maintain our equipment. Please be mindful that we will be keeping a register of all members in attendance and strongly urge any member or spectator with cold or flu like symptoms to stay at home. As we can only have 40 people within our training space, we urge any guests or members from other clubs to first contact someone from the club, to inform them you are coming. All are still very welcome! Please read your emails for the full document containing all rules and changes, and contact the club as soon as possible if you have not received a copy. 08.01.2022 ***Urgent Closure*** Good evening everyone, It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing the temporary closure of Murdoch University Kendo Club. This is not a decision that we have taken lightly, but with increasing COVID-19 concerns and social isolation of members, we feel as if it is in the best interest of all our Kendoka. Under advice from the West Australian Kendo Renmei and Murdoch University, we will be suspending training immediately until mid-April. At that point in... time, we will reassess and make a decision based upon the best information at hand. To reiterate - All sessions are cancelled starting from Monday 23rd of March. New updates will be provided as they come in. We are cancelling the Introductory course and will refund payment or postpone. We will be very happy to transfer any existing balances to future Introductory courses either in Semester 2, or in Semester 1 of 2021 if need be. People who had registered to attend will be emailed soon with details. We are committed to holding the Re-Introductory course once everything settles down and we apologise for the inconvenience. We thank you for your support and hope to see you back in our Introductory classes as soon as we can. With so much information being dispersed, I understand that there will be mounting panic. Sport and exercise is still a great way for us to manage our anxiety. Remember your Kendo Breathing, sitting upright, pushing your belly out as you breath in. In through your nose for 5 counts, out through your mouth for 5 counts. I do this whenever I start to feel anxious. You can still practise at home, doing suburi or looking at your posture in the mirror. Or watching videos on Youtube. Please do practise social distancing, try to stay away from friends and family if possible. Kendo is all about bolstering mind, body and spirit - we will weather this together. We can also keep in touch with each other. If you have not already, please join our Murdoch Kendo Facebook page. We are a community beyond training, and we can support each other still. Hopefully soon this will be over and we can practice Kendo together again, and I'm really looking forward to that day. I thank you all for your patience regarding this matter! This measure was taken as a precaution and is our way to help 'flatten the curve' and ensuring everyones health and safety. Best Regards Mitch Fenn Murdoch University Kendo Club
