She booked in a Small Business Photoshoot and off I went to beautiful North Motton on a crisp winters afternoon to be immersed in all things woodworking and jewellery making. (She also does ceramics - I did mention Linda is talented!) 24.01.2022 My most loving and gentle Tayah Murphy (TMurph) passed unexpectedly on Sunday night; my husband and I were by her side. She was the love of our lives for nearly 16 years and we miss her unconditional love, her love of food and waking up to her happy little face every morning. We could not have loved her more. I know many of you - my sweet clients - had met Tayah during our wedding meetings or had listened to me talk about her funny ways. Many of you trusted me because I am a ...dog person. Many of you booked because you knew I welcomed your furry ones to your photo session. I loved exchanging amusing dog stories and I know you enjoyed seeing her antics in my Insta stories. I have absolutely loved photographing your family members human and four-legged (actually, some had three!) and I will continue to love doing this into the future. We brought Tayah Murphy home yesterday. She was lovingly cremated by @cornerstonepet. She is now home with us, and will be forevermore always by my side. 20.01.2022 It’s party time! Well ... holiday time at least. I’m taking a short break from shooting (first time over summer in forever!) to enjoy the weather ( ). 19.01.2022 Ebony + Chris are joy-filled, love-filled, magnetic type of people who immediately made me feel at ease. I know it’s supposed to be the other way around, but these two (+ that gorgeous little bump) were just so welcoming that I felt like we had known each other for years I’m so appreciative of clients who fully trust me (+ don’t openly laugh when I get excited about the light ) - and the results is beautiful photos like these. They will be released late Sept/early Oct and will be held in late October on the NW Coast. This is the only time Mini Sessions will be held this year. There will only be a very limited number available. They are not Christmas themed (no props etc) as I want you to be able to display a piece of portrait art in yo...ur home all year long. 16.01.2022 The long weekend for me looked like sunshine walks, a WW1 and WW2 movie (at home of course!), cleaning out my fridge () and catching up on my out-of-control emails. What about you? Did you get out and about? Who went to @Kmart? Ohhhhh and I sent out this gorgeous gallery for Katelyn and her little Frankie. Katelyn shared with me her why for investing in a portrait session:... I wanted to get some nice photos with Frankie. I dont take a lot and, because her dad isnt here, I dont get many special moments of us taken by someone else. I also wanted some keepsakes of her wearing her dads favourite Akubra.

12.01.2022 Happy International Dog Day to all the fur parents + doggos out there Its been nearly four months since my gentle Tayah Murphy left this earth. She was so loved for her (nearly) 16 years. Yesterday when I came home I went into the loungeroom to see her as I had done many times during her life - but I had forgotten she was no longer there. In the space where I would normally see a furry mound of snoring dog, I instead saw emptiness. It took a brief second for me to reali...se, and then the pit of my stomach dropped. I sobbed for a while. I find that the grief of losing her comes in waves. Sometimes I laugh at memories of her antics and sometimes I just crave her so much. Pat your dog a little longer today and sneak them an extra treat or two. I know TMurph would have taken full advantage of International Dog Day. I love the fact that Nan was included in this photoshoot so that the grandchildren and grandparent have some special images together as does mother and daughter. 07.01.2022 Photographing families is my jam (especially when the little ones are so cute + entertaining like Miss Willow ) - but did you know I also photograph weddings? The 2020-21 wedding season is fully booked (this is August-April for me as I usually take a few weeks of holidays over winter). But I still have availability for the 2021-22 wedding season (August 2021-April 2022) - and I am capping it at 10 weddings next season. So if youre *thinking* of getting married or full on... *planning* and havent yet secured a photographer, dont leave it too late to make contact! I want to ensure each of my wedding couples has the best of me - my time, energy + creativity. If youve seen me at the end of a wedding day you will know I have given the day my absolute all. I wouldnt have it any other way and want to continue to give my couples the best service and the best of me - and this change will make it possible. There wont be a cap on the number of portrait sessions I photograph - such as family, maternity, couple, pet, engagements - just as many as I can physically do! 06.01.2022 The client and I couldn’t decide a favourite between these two images . The top one has the hair across her face and the bottom of the dress is billowing (can’t quite see it here) which I like from a creative/emotive perspective. The bottom image is probably more universally accepted as a classic portrait. What do you think and why? Mel

03.01.2022 Light. Its ethereal qualities often take my breath away; the way it brushes its golden paint on the tips of bone-dry grass, the way it fills solemn winter skies with flickers of hope, the way it illuminates the ordinary to create halos of beauty. In this image you can see the way I use light to enhance emotion and connections. It draws your eye and causes your attention to linger. The first image has not had the light leak Photoshopped in. Its all skill, plenty of practice ...and knowing how light works with my camera. In the second image I moved forward and tilted my camera downwards ever so slightly, removing the light. Light is also in the timing. This is why I encourage afternoon sessions. I know this time of day doesnt work for everyone, so I can photograph you at other times for sure. And sometimes Mother Nature just doesnt cooperate. But so many of my clients are drawn to my work because of the way I use light - I know this because its mentioned so often by prospective and current clients. Portrait and wedding clients are always surprised that I know the time of sunset on their chosen date. Thats because I care that their investment in my photography is everything they dreamed of. If its important to you, its important to me. Do you want light-filled portraits to fill the walls of your home? Its much more meaningful than a generic store-bought piece of art.
