22.01.2022 REGIONAL VICTORIANS CAN GET ON THE WATER The NSW Government has amended its public health order to allow more regional Victorians from outside the border region... to use the Murray River, a Liberal MP has announced. Member for Albury Justin Clancy said the revised order allowed anyone who has been in Victoria over a 14-day period to access the Murray River without a permit, "provided that they do not enter an embankment, dock, port or wharf on the northern side of the river". Regional Victorians can qualify provided they have not been in a restricted area or a COVID-19 area of concern. "This is an important and much needed step for tourism operators on the Murray and an improvement we’ve been pushing for the past few weeks," Mr Clancy said. Tourism operators and the Murray Regional Tourism board had warned some river-based businesses faced closure if their main regional Victorian market remained blocked from accessing the Murray River under NSW's border controls. "This has been the fight of my life for our business, and many others, but the elation that has come from this announcement really has me on cloud nine," Ashton Kruezer, from Mildura Paddle Steamers, said. "From numerous letters to ministers, phone calls, setbacks, meetings, emails, texts, to finally - a result."
