25.01.2022 We understand this is an anxious and uncertain time for travellers. We know a lot of you are concerned about the situation where you are. The decision to come ...home or to stay where you are is yours. Every individual will need to consider their own circumstances. If you wish to return to Australia, we recommend you do so as soon as possible by commercial means. 19.01.2022 It may not always be front of mind, but our ports and freight network is absolutely critical to our way of life in Western Australia. This video explains why th...is announcement is one of the most important that we will make as a Government - and I would recommend that you take a moment to watch it to understand this critical State project. After two years of extensive work, the independent Westport Taskforce have recommended a new, land-backed port within the Kwinana Industrial Area, connected by an uninterrupted, modern freight corridor via Anketell Road and Tonkin Highway. A new port at Kwinana will take container trucks out of the suburbs, away from roads that are not designed to the modern standard we now expect to handle freight traffic. The new port will truly meet the future needs of our State, with safer and more efficient transport links and create countless new opportunities for WA workers and industry. Even with billions of dollars worth of road upgrades, the transport network supporting the Fremantle Inner Harbour will reach capacity by the mid-2030s. The taskforce found that a Kwinana container port will need to be operational by around 2032, meaning planning for a future container port must get underway now. Today's announcement means the project will now move to the next stage of planning - including comprehensive environmental assessment and works, detailed design and a final business case. This will include determining a timetable of transitioning freight from Fremantle Port to Kwinana - which will occur either in one step by 2032 or over a phased period that will see both ports share the freight task initially, for around a further 15 years.

15.01.2022 The tug Svitzer Redhead puts on a spurt as it escorts container ship Hansa Drakenburg out of the Inner Harbour this evening, on its way to Singapore. The 175m H...ansa Drakenburg has a deadweight of 23,464 tonnes. Now the berth is free, just minutes until the 334m Seamax Greenwich takes its place alongside. Never a dull moment at the port! After a flat period due to COVID-19 in the last quarter of 2019-20, container trade has been better than expected in the first quarter of this financial year. Full container imports through Fremantle are up 5.5%, keeping the WA economy rolling. #thisifremantle #fremantle #portlife See more

11.01.2022 INTERNATIONAL AVIATION NETWORK ESTABLISHED TO GET AUSTRALIANS HOME We know many Australian travellers are facing difficulty getting home. The Australian Governm...ent has now established a network of flights with #Qantas and #VirginAustralia. These flights will leave from the key hubs #London, #LosAngeles, #HongKong and #Auckland for the next four weeks. We encourage Australians still overseas to take up this opportunity. We understand that in some cases this will not be possible where you are.
