25.01.2022 Woah, Make the Swap, whats with the confusing bacon swap? I know, I know, I hear ya! But the bacon industry is a bloody minefield! I mean, bacon that is 21% Au...stralian? Come on, man! Firstly, the bar graph is more important than the brand!! (unless you already buy a locally sourced brand or a brand you are confident with then giddy up to you!!) So what is the Australian ingredients in the ones on the left?.....Water. Yep, were paying for the Australian water. Cheap bacon is imported boneless and frozen. Australian water is added and voila its now Made in Australia The problem is that pig farming has become so expensive (the cost of feed, freight, etc) that gradually our pig farmers cant compete with subsidised imports (and yes, EVERY single country that imports bacon to Australia receives subsidies from their government Australian farmers dont. Its that simple.) There are locally sourced bacon brands available (Schultes is an example in the image) so check for your area or ask your butcher. But if you are a supermarket shopper, you need to have a quick check of the bar graph or check for the Pork Australia logo.
