19.01.2022 Congratulations to our Public Programs Officer Malcolm Traill for winning the Professional Contribution category at the 2020 WA Heritage Awards! Malcolm is a prominent figure in the promotion and awareness of history and heritage in the Great Southern region. Malcolm works tirelessly, under many hats, to increase the community's knowledge of both Aboriginal and European stories in the region. Today is Malcolm's final day in his current role at the Museum - the end of a chapte...r of a varied 26-year-long career in the heritage and history sector. Malcolm will remain a valuable local resource as he continues to deliver heritage tours and curatorial talks in our community. We wish Malcolm all the best for his future endeavours; he will be sorely missed by our team at the Museum of the Great Southern.

15.01.2022 HELP! One of our beloved karracks (cockatoo) is missing from its perch! These birds were commissioned by the Aboriginal Heritage Reference Group as part of the Yurlman project in 2017. Noongar elders and youth engraved each feather as a memory of the event.... They are of great value to the Noongar community as they commemorate a very special event in our recent history. If you have any information relating to the whereabouts of the bird, please email or call the Museum: 9841 4844 or [email protected]

05.01.2022 The Western Australian Government has announced that mandatory contact registers will be introduced from Saturday, 5 December 2020 - including at museums. Maintaining a contact register is an extra safety measure and one of the most effective ways to control the spread of COVID-19. Any person aged 16 and over will be required to register their contact details on arrival. To avoid delays, we strongly encourage you to use SafeWA, the WA Government’s free, secure and contactless QR code app. Download it before you arrive, via Apple App Store or Google Play.
