23.01.2022 Friday 29th May 2020 R.I.P. Stephen Brockman Director of Music - Gisborne Singers fr 10+ years .. A Friend of Music at Resurrection .... Stephen died yesterday, in The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, following a serious fall from his bicycle last week. . Stephen studied flute at the Melbourne University Conservatorium of Music before beginning a career in engineering in Geelong. In 1974 he moved to Sydney where he played with the NSW Police Military Band and then with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. In 1979 he was appointed Principal Flute with the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO). He has appeared as soloist with the QPO and the Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra. In the 1990s he was Musical Director of the Hong Kong Singers, conducting operettas and musicals. He also played Principal Flute in the HK Chamber Orchestra and was a member of the Lugard Wind Quintet. Stephen has been Musical Director of the Gisborne Singers since 2008 and has directed performances including Mozart’s Requiem, Bruckner’s Te Deum, Handel’s Messiah, The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins, and Brahms’ Requiem. In 2015 he received the Macedon Ranges Arts Ambassador award in the Australia Day Honours List. Stephen will be sorely missed in The Macedon Ranges musical world. Thank you for all the joy and laughter you brought into so many lives.

16.01.2022 Spring is finally approaching and so too an exciting organ recital by Dianne Gome and Friends. (Dianne is Director of Music at the Church of the Resurrection, Macedon.) For this concert Dianne will join with flautist Elizabeth Teed and cellist Emma West in a performance of the Sonata in C, BWV 1033, by J S Bach. Another ensemble work will be the Organ Concerto in B flat, Op 4 No 6, by Handel, and will feature members of the Resonance String Orchestra. In addition, Dianne wi...ll present a set of variations by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelink (1562-1621), a Dutch composer and organist, and one of the European composers to focus on keyboard music and whose works straddle both the Renaissance and Baroque eras. The programme will conclude with the monumental Finale from Organ Symphony No 1, composed for the organ of Notre-Dame Cathedral, Paris by Louis Vierne (1870-1937). Hope you can join us for a wonderful and inspiring afternoon. This concert is presented on Sunday 23rd September at 3:00 pm at the Church of the Resurrection, Cnr Honour Ave and Mt. Macedon Road, Macedon. $25/$20. (Followed by refreshments where you can meet the artists).
