08.01.2022 Dear Friends of Music Matinee, Now you have perhaps had the opportunity to catch up with a loved one not seen for some time, or have a coffee with a friend, we do trust you are all feeling in an optimistic mood as the dark clouds over our city seem to be lifting at last. We are pleased to bring you the details of Dr. Timothy Chiang’s live streamed performance on November 10th at 1.00 pm. The link to the performance is https://youtu.be/vge3f3c_DK8... Tim has put together a simply wonderful recital to warm our hearts and welcome us back to the the place where we can keep enjoying music and I’m sure it will lift everyone’s spirits. He begins with a bracket of two well loved pieces Brahms Intermezzo Op 118 No2 Chopin Barcarolle Op 60 The second bracket is as follows Rachmaninov. Etude tableau Op 39 No 1 Liszt. Transcendental Etude No 12 Chasse-neige (snow storm) Scriabin Etude. Op 8 No 12 These are three very difficult pieces of music to play , during the Liszt piece you will notice the storm growing in severity while the Scriabin composition reflects the injury suffered to his right hand as a twenty year old , which caused him to write unusual virtuoso and wide spans for the left hand in following compositions. Tim finishes with Franck’s Prelude Chorale and Fugue , a fitting end to a wonderful concert. Tim has dedicated this concert to all Seniors ( it was originally to be part of the Seniors Festival) and to all who have lost their lives during this current pandemic. Music Matinee is sure you will all join us in feeling this to be a fitting tribute .

07.01.2022 Music Matinee Inc. November Second Monthly Newsletter Dear Friends of Music Matinee, Due to delays caused by Covid restrictions we now have a busy programme through to Christmas.... Last Concert We were entertained by Timothy Chiang on Tuesday this week. His performance was delightful and can still be seen from the links on our webpage www.musicmatinee.org Whether it is a repeat viewing or maybe you are seeing Timothy's concert for the first time, either way we are sure you will find it most engaging. Earlier we received your feedback on the genre of music we present. All responses insisted we retain the classical theme, but there was also a large number asking for the inclusion of jazz into our programme This led us to booking more concert times with the prospect of increasing our offering Next Concert 17th November 1.00 pm All concerts in 2020 will be live steamed, including Tuesday's concert. By introducing this "post jazz" event we believe it will give you much joy and add to the depth of music that Music Matinee offer. The link is:- https://youtu.be/Ofa498npDXI There is no part of the Melbourne music establishment untouched by our next musician, Dr Tony Gould AM, he has a wonderful history in this city and beyond as an educator, performer and composer of music from classics to jazz as he seamlessly interprets the composers of all eras to us anew using the wonderful art of improvisation. Tony would describe his music as post-jazz or the art of creative music (we suggest you take time to view this and google Tony Gould the Art of Creative Music), at your leisure. For most of us it is simply artistic genius. We are most privileged to have him play for us on Tuesday .
