25.01.2022 First session back at Achieve at Seven Hills with the clients after the Christmas break. A few clients were a bit stroppy and out of sorts on arrival today but thankfully the music did its work and the clients were all soon smiling and joining in with the music. One of the clients at times tells us "No more". When i threatened to pack up and go home he soon changed his mind. We told him as a joke if he told me "no more" again he would have to go to the corner. Of course, he ended up in the corner with the biggest grin in his face. Lots of fun had by all despite a hesitant start today.

23.01.2022 A great afternoon at Kurrajong Nursing Home today. There are now several residents who make sure they don't miss out on their music therapy of a week and are extremely upset if they miss it. We got the great news today that music therapy will be happening twice a week over March (and hopefully beyond). Looking forward to their smiles when I turn up later in the week for another session of fun and singing together.

17.01.2022 Had a great opportunity to incorporate music therapy into my work as a registered nurse in the nursing home today. Due to some severe winds in our area, the nursing home I work at had a blackout lasting over 26 hours. I called my son and got him to drop my keyboard over to me and I was able to have a sing a long with several of the residents. Most of the residents who were with me in the lounge were singing along and had great big smiles on their faces. After having no real activities due to no power, they enjoyed a sing a long both before and after dinner until the power came back on. Our manager also saw the residents enjoying the music - hoping she may look seriously at Music Therapy for the facility in the near future. Several comments from staff at how they enjoyed hearing the music and all of us singing along.

17.01.2022 For those who are interested, I will have the opportunity to talk about music therapy on Hawkesbury Community radio broadcasting online tomorrow a t around 2pm. Tune in via the Hawkesbury Radio 89.9 app to listen to presenter Kathryn and I talk about music therapy.

15.01.2022 A great session at Kurrajong Nursing Home today after residents missed out last week due to being evacuated as a precaution for the bush fires. The residents were full of enthusiasm and really enjoyed their singing today ready for seeing in the New year. We are all looking forward to our program for the New Year with a bunch of new "old" songs that we probably haven't sung for many a year.

13.01.2022 A fun session today to end 2019 with my client who I see in a local nursing home each week. Today we were both playing our ukuleles and singing the year out with a few old favourites that we both know. It is great seeing how she is remembering songs that she hasn't sung for years. Her face lights up and her smile becomes very contagious. Love spending time with her doing music in the nursing home.

13.01.2022 A fun morning playing ukulele with one of my Aged Care clients. Stated she wasn't feeling good this morning but after some morning tea (Pancakes with jam) and lots is singing and playing with a few new songs, she brightened up considerably and said she felt so much better than how she started the day. Music has made a noticeable difference for this dear lady. Her family has noticed improvements in her mood and memory, simply with 30 minutes of music therapy a week. Love spending time with her each week and seeing the improvements in her wellbeing.

12.01.2022 A great session this morning with the boys at Life Without Barriers at Emu Plains this morning. All the fellows were bopping along to the music in their own way gut obviously having lots of fun with the carers as well. We will be having regular sessions each fortnight now so looking forward to lots of fun with this group.

12.01.2022 A fun session filled with lots of Christmas cheer this afternoon at Kurrajong Nursing Home. A big joy for some of the staff who saw and heard one of their residents with very limited English speaking abilities singing Jingle Bells with a huge smile on her face. She is recognising a few of the more familiar Christmas carols and songs and singing along with such a huge smile. Loving seeing her recognise music and the smiles it brings to her face. They even managed to capture the time briefly on video to be able to share with her family.

05.01.2022 A great session this afternoon with my 6 year old newly diagnosed client with autism and severe anxiety disorder. Mum decided to invite a friend over (non autistim) who was very interested in the musical instruments and was able to encourage client to have a go. He sat on mum's lap with us on the floor for 15 minutes straight playing with the percussion with the lion king sound track playing in the background before becoming distracted. All in all we had over 25 minutes of ...music interaction as compared to only 5 or 10 minutes over previous weeks. We have made a big breakthrough this week and have decided to continue music therapy with the friend in attendance in coming weeks where we are able to do so. Mum was very happy today with 6 year olds achievements. It has taken 6 weeks but finally seeing some great results with lots of perseverance. See more

02.01.2022 Kurrajong Nursing Home residents were a lively lot yesterday afternoon with their music therapy. A few more residents joining in with instruments and singing at a great rate. A few new song requests coming out too - especially as the residents had had a local acapella choir sing at the facility on the Sunday and they enjoyed several of their songs ( helps when you happen to also be a member of that choir but was not able to attend the sing along at KNH due to other commitments). Nearly half the residents at the home attending on a very regular basis.

01.01.2022 Kurrajong Nursing Home residents had fun with their music therapy this afternoon. One of the non English speaking residents was in the mood for the music today and was conducting me as I played the piano. She obviously recognised the songs and joined in playing the instruments as well as conducting with a huge smile on her face. Other residents had the feet tapping or joined in with singing along with our favourites. Always lots of fun to be had at Kurrajong of a week.
