23.01.2022 To protect our community, all other remote communities, Alice Springs, Darwin and the rest of the NT the following measures should be put in place at all airports: - Hard border closures to people from hotspots - Checks at departure airport - Checks at arrival airport ... - Should someone after that present at the arrival airport as being from a hotspot or have Covid symptoms, the entire flight should be quarantined This will make not just Mutitjulu but the whole NT a lot safer.

22.01.2022 It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of Mrs H Reid on 4 November, and pay our respects to a phenomenal woman, a talented artist with a crack...ing sense of humour. She touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. The skies lit up spectacularly that evening in her honour. Our deepest, heartfelt condolences to her loving family, near and far. 22.01.2022 We are now playing our COVID safe messages at the Ininti Store. This is to reinforce to our community members to be COVID safe! We are encouraging community members to stay in community as much as possible and be extra safe when going to the resort. Especially while we are keeping an eye on the Sydney situation. Mutitjulu is asking visitors from the northern beaches and wider Sydney to reconsider their travel to Yulara and to not interact with Anangu to protect our vulnerable people. Thank you!

20.01.2022 MCAC is calling for the Yulara Airport to be closed to flights, the risk to our residents is just too great! Flights should fly into Alice Springs where passengers should be screened again (as they should be at place of departure). If it turns out there is a passenger from a hotspot (where ever that hotspot may be at the time), ALL passengers from that flight should go into mandatory supervised quarantine. This will allow for people from flights that are free from passengers ...coming from hotspots to come to the National Park. This will decrease the risk significantly, not just for our Community but also for the Alice Springs Community. The onus should be on the people coming to visit the NT, to keep our Territory safe. We are encouraged by the support Chief Minister Michael Gunner has pledged yesterday to the Mutitjulu Community and its residents. As we understand it the NTG owns the land the airport is built on and can direct the operators to close the airport. MCAC, with the support of the Parks Board and CLC is asking Chief Minister Gunner to make this decision now. https://www.abc.net.au//nt-chief-minister-calls-/12472112

14.01.2022 The MCAC Board has made the following decision in regards to fuel sales at Mutitjulu. Resolution 0506-001 Motion: Residents can get a full tank (twice a week) of fuel but still need to get a ‘permit’ at the office with a valid reason (Going to Alice Springs, going out bush etc.). This is to enforce that people do not cross the border. This permit can be signed by anyone of the managers in the office.

07.01.2022 ATTENTION TOURISTS & NON-ESSENTIAL TRAVELLERS: The Kaltukatjara (Docker River) community have advised the Central Land Council that their community is CLOSED t...o non-essential travellers. Therefore, no transit permits will be issued for tourism for the Tjukaruru Road until further notice. The Tjukaruru road extends from the WA border to the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park boundary. The Ngaanyatjarra Council has also advised that their communities are closed and that they are NOT issuing permits for non-essential travel along the Great Central road, also known as part of the Outback Way. If travel to Kaltukatjara is considered essential, an entry permit from the CLC should be applied for via the CLC website (see link in comments below). The community looks forward to welcoming you back once the threat of COVID-19 has passed. Please respect the community's wishes and do NOT stop in Kaltukatjara.

02.01.2022 'None of those passengers were quarantined': Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park now temporarily closed after Mutitjulu residents blocked the entrance to protect the community from a potential COVID-19 outbreak.

02.01.2022 Mutitjulu tourist blockade wins hearts and support! When the Mutitjulu community decided to take matters into its own hands and prioritise the health and safety... of Anangu over tourism dollars from the Uluru-KataTjuta National Park, nobody expected public reaction to be so overwhelmingly positive. Residents blockaded the park entry station, effectively closing it until August 6, after a Jetstar flight arrived from hotspot-declared Brisbane three days earlier. Parks Australia received almost 200 emails about the blockade and phones rang of the hook. The vast majority of the messages supported Anangu making decisions to stop the coronavirus from entering their vulnerable communities. Please keep the park closed! wrote Sarah Gardiner. People’s lives are worth so much more than money! One correspondent expressed a widely shared fear of the risk the virus poses to the older generation. I am upset about the news regarding tourism at the Uluru national park. My concern is for the Aboriginal Australians, particularly the elders living in these remote communities, wrote Samantha Campbell. These tourists could be bringing the virus and if an outbreak were to occur these remote communities could suffer. I fear for the survival of elders if they were to get sick. Please consider keeping the park closed until circumstances improve and the indigenous communities are not at risk. A director of the Mutitjulu Community Aboriginal Corporation, Craig Woods, told the ABC that residents frequently travelled to Yulara to buy groceries, and flights into the resort defeat the purpose of keeping people from hotspots contained. He said the message to tourists was clear and simple: This virus is not good for our people. Please postpone your holiday, stay home and keep the Mutitjulu community safe. While MCAC was unable to prevent passengers from Brisbane disembarking at Connellan Airport, the three day blockade resulted in Parks Australia agreeing to close the park temporarily. Sidney James, the chair of the park’s board of management, acknowledged the unprecedented public support for Anangu. We are happy to know about this support from the public, palya, together we made good decisions to keep people safe." Thanks to MCAC for supplying the photos.
