22.01.2022 ATTEMPTED COPPER THEFT: Police have been called in to investigate another dangerous incident involving interference with live electrical wires at Marks Point i...n Lake Macquarie. The incident cut power supply to 1,200 customers. A metal security gate near the Pacific Highway was cut through with a saw and a power pole about 20 metres from the road was targeted. Soil around the base of the pole was dug away and a metal cover removed in an attempt to cut away live copper cables from a connection between underground cables and overhead powerlines. The west Lake Macquarie and Toronto area has been targeted this year multiple times. Chief Operating Officer Trevor Armstrong said the attempt to remove the cable caused significant damage and sparked a fire. Unfortunately the message doesn’t seem to be getting through that anyone who interferes with live electrical wires is putting their own life and potentially those of others at risk. 04.01.2022 SAFETY ALERT: No amount of copper is worth your life. Would-be thieves used bolt cutters to cut down live high voltage powerlines at Toronto in Lake Macquarie y...esterday. 770 customers lost power. About 150 metres of copper powerlines were cut down and found coiled on the ground. Cable cutters were also found attached to wires left dangling from poles. Chief Operating Officer Trevor Armstrong has condemned the behaviour in the strongest possible terms. These were high voltage live powerlines carrying 11,000 volts, so not only is this attempted theft brazen it is also incredibly risky.
