23.01.2022 HI Everyone. This video starts with ..."Do you want the good news or the bad news?" Are you a glass half full or a glass half empty kind of person. We have requested and been granted an exemption to COVID-19 restrictions that is allowing us to return to the studio at Warana. We're soooo excited to be going back. Please watch the video because as always I have a bit to say. If you live locally and think you might like to try a class, please call/text me first on 0459 493 70...1 and I'll get you organised for class. If you don't live locally, there's info in the video regarding your local dance studios. There is more info on our website www.mydanceobsession.com. We will continue with the 4 week challenges on Cha Cha Cha and rhythm Foxtrot and look forward to seeing you in the studio. When you arrive, please tell me you started as one of our online kids, Dayle and I would be thrilled to meet you ;-)St See more

20.01.2022 Hi Everyone We've been asked for a Cha Cha Cha challenge (no, I don't have a stutter, or a cold) So, starting Friday arvo, Dayle and I will post a Cha Cha 4 week challenge and on Mondays a Rhythm Foxtrot challenge. Something new to try. Cha Cha is a fun and fast style and Rhythm Foxtrot has all the great 4/4 time music - perfect for pubs, clubs and, dare I say, cruises. We look forward to seeing you for a new challenge at the end of the week ... Sharon and Dayle

20.01.2022 MIDNIGHT WALTZ (a line dance) HI Everyone. We noticed how much you liked the Rock n Roll Waltz line dance so here's another and my favourite of the line dances. My pick of the music that this can be danced to is Old Friend by Scooter Lee. Midnight Waltz can be danced as a single or a couple and is a 4 wall line dance. If you have any questions, please leave them in comments ;-) St

20.01.2022 SEQUENCE DANCES ~ BLUEBELL SWING This is a popular dance at our Ballroom Social Dances and it's difficult to find a good YouTube video to learn it from; we hope you like the Bluebell Swing ;-)St Our preferred music for the Bluebell Swing is:... Dance Above the Rainbow by Ronan Hardiman - Michael Flatley "Feet of Flames". It's always easier to follow when you watch us from behind and we've danced and instructed this dance from the stance of dancing away from the camera and dancing toward the camera. I'd use the instruction when dancing toward the camera as verbal instruction only so that you don't accidentally head in the wrong direction. Enjoy everyone ... this is a great Winter warmer dance ;-) See more

16.01.2022 Hi Everyone Well, it's been quite a week since returning to dance classes, private lessons and floor hire. We can't wait for the second easing of restrictions to start when we can have 20 people at class as we've had to turn dancers away this past week (being limited to 10 people at present). Our solo/single dancers are realising how good it is for them to dance sans partner - a chance to improve balance and knowledge of figures and sequence dances and most importantly, it just feels great to be back.... and classes almost feel like a private lesson with only 9 of your best friends. If you are interested in a return to dancing and want more info, please ring Sharon on 0459493701. See you in your dance s St

16.01.2022 4 WEEK LEARN TO DANCE RHYTHM FOXTROT CHALLENGE Here it is everyone ...Week 4. Thanks for joining us. Hi! We're Dayle and Sharon from Dance Obsession @ Warana, Sunshine Coast. This challenge is suitable for beginners of any age / singles or couples. The Left Turning Box is our challenge for this week. Great to use if you need a holding pattern on the dance floor or to get around a corner. ... You can find lots of wonderful music online but to be really suitable you want a song with a slower tempo while you're learning. Here's some music suggestions so if dancing to music feels frantic either dance to one of our songs to check the timing or perhaps practise without music until you don't have to think so much about where you're taking your next step. Easy songs to dance to are: Kelly Clarkson ~ I Dare You (Top 40) Domino ~ This Business of Love (a Classic) Soft Cell ~ Tainted Love (Boppy and fast) Robbie Williams ~ Shine My Shoes (My Favourite) Please leave comments so we know whether to give you more or less info and definitely ask if something is not clear or you have questions. There will always be someone else wondering the same thing. This is the end of our online challenges as we are back dancing in the studio and under Covid-19 restrictions, there is a lot of extra work to be done and unfortunately it takes time away from our filming. We look forward to seeing you in the studio if you live around the Sunshine Coast or pop in to your local dance studio and try what they have to offer. If the first studio doesn't suit you, please try another as we all teach a little differently, the classes may be confusing at first and it doesn't hurt to see what's out there. It sometimes takes a while to feel comfortable learning a new skill and I would suggest you give it a few months to settle in. Should you ever be on the Sunshine Coast, please pop in and introduce yourselves, let me know you started as one of our online kids. See you on the dance floor ;-) Thanks for joining us.

16.01.2022 ~~Dance Obsession's May Social in Isolation ~~ I just had to share this video that my wonderful kids (30yo to 70yo) contributed to. Ofcourse the gorgeous Ellie, with trusty sidekick and mother Leigh, patiently goaded us on and created these lovely reminders of what we will go back to when Dance Obsession opens. Some of my kids have a touch of crazy (and that's ok), some are clever and creative (I suspect Panda is THE shoes, my apologies if it's not her) and all are just plain gorgeous ~ my tapestry of life. Go Kidlets ... Dayle and I think you're great and this is why we do what we do ;-)St

15.01.2022 4 WEEK LEARN TO DANCE WALTZ CHALLENGE Here it is everyone ...Week 2, Thanks for joining us. Hi! We're Dayle and Sharon from Dance Obsession @ Warana, Sunshine Coast. This challenge is suitable for beginners of any age / singles or couples. If you can walk, you can waltz.... This week we need slightly more floor space ~ 2m x 4m or more if you've got the room. You don't need music right now, I would suggest you take a day to get used to moving from one foot to the other and it's important that when you bring your feet together that it's a slow and gentle close because that's usually where we change direction and we need the most balance. This week we teach the left turning box figure. A hint ... whoever takes the backward steps in the LT box will take smaller steps and stay within the frame of the person dancing forwards. You can find lots of slow waltz music online but to be really suitable you want a song with a slow, even 3/4 beat. Some music websites don't separate their fast (Viennese) and slow waltz music so if dancing to music feels frantic either dance to one of our songs to check the timing or perhaps practise without music until moving from one foot to the other feels something like walking. Easy songs to dance to are: Take It to the Limit by Eagles (good value at 5 mins) Come Away with Me by Norah Jones Years from Now by Don McLean (Especially For You Album) This week is slightly more tricky than last week, but once you conquer the LT box, you've got the rest conquered. Please leave comments so we know whether to give you more or less info and definitely ask if something is not clear or you have questions. There will always be someone else wondering the same thing. Please excuse the soft focus; also, the wide angled lens makes me look like a giant sometimes and our angles slightly skewed ...We look forward to seeing you Friday for week 2 of the Rumba class. Please share with your friends, they need a new experience. Thanks for joining us.

15.01.2022 4 WEEK LEARN TO DANCE CHA CHA CHA CHALLENGE The weeks are flying now ... Week 3 already ;-) St. Thanks for joining us. Hi! We're Dayle and Sharon from Dance Obsession @ Warana, Sunshine Coast. This challenge is suitable for beginners of any age / singles or couples.... To start, all you need is some clear floor space ~ 1.5m x 3m (2m x 4m for couples) or more if you've got the room. If you danced to music last week, you'll notice how fast Cha Cha can feel. Please keep the steps reasonably small so you're not travelling too far. This week we introduce the Hand to Hand (a variation on the New York). You can find lots of Cha Cha music online but to be really suitable you want a song with a slower tempo while you're learning. Here's some music suggestions so if dancing to music feels frantic either dance to one of our songs to check the timing or perhaps practise without music until you don't have to think so much about where you're taking your next step. 10.01.2022 Sequence Dance ~ Opus 5 Waltz There is a fabulous YouTube clip that will give you the names of the figures and perhaps a different perspective. 06.01.2022 4 WEEK LEARN TO DANCE WALTZ CHALLENGE FEEDBACK REQUESTED AND PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS Oh no, we've reached Week 4 already. Dayle and I were hoping this would see us through the isolation phase but while easing of restrictions is slowly coming to pass, we're still not back playing our favourite sports or really out in the big, wide world just yet. Sooooo, if you'd like to continue learning waltz figures, please let us know. We've only had good comments so we're assumin...g you're handling the Challenge easily and perhaps some less basic steps are called for. Thanks for joining us for Week 4. Hi! We're Dayle and Sharon from Dance Obsession @ Warana, Sunshine Coast. This challenge is suitable for beginners of any age / singles or couples. If you can walk, you can waltz. This week we put the jigsaw together. The right and left turning box, change steps, our box step and this week we add the underarm turn. Please remember you can dance these figures in any combination with change steps as joiners or used to change your lead foot. This is just a pattern we've created to make sure you're practising all the figures. If you're new to the Challenge this week, please check previous week's post for a few suggestions on suitable music. If you've been following the Challenge, what is your favourite song to waltz to? ;-)St Please ask if something is not clear or you have questions. Please share with your friends; they need a new experience. Thanks for joining us. We hope you're enjoying dancing at home and you've learned just a little bit of dancing to take to the clubs and pubs when we all get a chance.

It's particularly tempting on the side step to have weight split between both feet (think of a basketball player ready to move in either direction however in dancing we know where we're headed next and want to be ready to move from one foot to the other completely and smoothly ;-)) You can find lots of Rumba music online but to be really suitable you want a song with a slower tempo while you're learning. 05.01.2022 This is a brilliant exercise if you've danced before. It looks like a lot but Kasia breaks it down section by section. Please work on the sequence first, try it to music second. Suggested slow music: Coming Back as a Man by Caro Emerald (please note it slows down for a second in the middle of the song. Just hold whatever step youre doing until the tempo picks up again). Can someone suggest swing music that would suit? Thanks Kasia. Enjoy ;-)St https://youtu.be/c3ZwstDpg-g

05.01.2022 I like this. A Cha Cha Cha exercise that doesn't take up too much room and is something a little different from CCC we might do at our studio. Always learning, I love it. Thanks Babette ;-) St https://youtu.be/a1jPZD00VvA

This challenge is suitable for beginners of any age / singles or couples. To start, all you need is some clear floor space ~ 1.5m x 3m (2m x 4m for couples) or more if you've got the room. You don't need music right now, I would suggest you take a day to get used to moving from one foot to the other and it's i...mportant that when you move onto a foot, you are fully on that foot rather than having your weight on both feet. You'll notice we keep both feet on the floor for good balance but we really are on either our right or left foot ready to move to the other. Here's some music suggestions so if dancing to music feels frantic either dance to one of our songs to check the timing or perhaps practise without music until you don't have to think so much about where you're taking your next step. Easy songs to dance to are: Tell Me Why ~ Jessica Folker (excellent and extra slow) Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps ~ Doris Day Chains ~ Tina Arena N'Oubliez Jamais ~ Joe Cocker Falling Into You ~ Celine Dion Please leave comments so we know whether to give you more or less info and definitely ask if something is not clear or you have questions. There will always be someone else wondering the same thing. We look forward to seeing you Monday for the Waltz week 4 class. Thanks for joining us. See more
