25.01.2022 Your baby’s feet are pretty adorable but did you know they could be your secret weapon for calming a teething baby? Or to soothe wind and other upsets? By gently rubbing their feet in certain areas, you can tap into certain areas of their body. Hopefully this map of a baby’s foot can help. The most powerful technique is to hold the palm of your hand against the sole of your baby’s foot and breath deeply and slowly (this would probably help soothe you too!) This has a groundi...ng effect which helps baby to feel calm. It’s always most powerful when done with unhurried focus. You could play ‘this little piggy’ with the toes and massage each one with little circular movements too. This is equally soothing and calming. I’d love to know if you already do this or if you give it a go. Let’s face it, who doesn’t love a good foot rub!

22.01.2022 So what exactly is enamel? I thought I’d share some beautiful examples from some famous names you might know like Fabergé, Tiffany and Lalique. This beautiful brooch by Rene Lalique from the Art Nouveaux period uses an enamelling technique called cloisonné where the enamel glass is wet layed onto the gold in ‘cloisons’ or little cells made from wire. Enamel is a powdered glass which starts in lump form like crystals and can be ground down to be sifted, wet layed or ground eve...n finer and mixed with a medium to paint. It can be transparent or opaque and once fired in a kiln at around 800 degrees, melts and fuses to the metal creating a vibrantly colourful and durable piece which will never fade or discolour. I’ve attached a few of Lalique’s pieces here with photos from Christie’s auction house in London. The wasps are made using a Pliqué a jour enamel technique (meaning ‘letting in daylight’) The enamel is suspended between spaces in the enamel and has the effect of stained glass. It’s so beautiful. These pieces are over 100 years old and still as bright and vibrant as the day they were made. If you’d like to buy one, the wasps will set you back a about A$60-80,000! My enamel prints are on steel, not gold, so they’re a bit more cost effective! But they still share that beautiful glossy shine of enamel.

17.01.2022 All the while I was making Eleanor Ruby’s keepsake frame I had the Beatles song Eleanor Rigby going in my head! Her mum picked up her frame last week and was over the moon. Swipe to see Eleanor with her frame and the close up of her hand to see how much she’s grown since her prints were taken Her prints were done at home using one of my inkless print kits, then sent back to me. I cleaned up the smudges and emailed the artwork to mum before enamelling them in soft grey ename...l on white enamelled steel. I was emailed a digital copy of the photo and had that printed and acrylic mounted it to frame with the prints. An heirloom treasure

I used to look enviously at all those mums who said their babies were sleeping through. My first one was over 2 years old before he gave us a full nights sleep! 16.01.2022 It took a little while to arrange these little hands so they can all be seen. The smallest 2 are twins, so very similar in size! It's a bit like parenting really - making sure all the kids get equal attention! Each handprint is in the child's favourite colour. I think it turned out really well ... what do you think?... 10.01.2022 Do you know what these prints are made of It’s hard to tell from a photo but, They’re enamel fired onto steel. They’re slightly raised to touch. Enamel is the ancient art of fusing glass onto metal using intense heat. 800 degrees to be precise. Byzantine enamel still survives today and is as bright and colourful as it was over 1000 years ago! What a perfect heirloom material ...
