25.01.2022 Bitumen/driveway scam in Central Qld. Please beware! The alleged tradespersons approach potential victims with a varied sales pitch where they may offer their ...services at a reduced rate for laying bitumen driveways. The group allegedly commence work, request additional payment, and leave without completing the contracted work upon receiving the additional payment. There have been previous reports of the scam running in Bundaberg and Gladstone, and they are currently believed to be operating in the Emerald area. Police suspect the group are using the below featured vehicles with Qld registrations AWH647 and TN91AK. If you receive this type of offer, police recommend not engaging with the group and reporting to police immediately. If you think you have seen or have had contact from these trades persons, police recommend you contact the Office of Fair Trade on 13QGOV (13 74 68) or go to their website. https://mypolice.qld.gov.au//bitumen-driveway-scam-in-cen/

13.01.2022 Central Queensland has recently experienced the tragedy associated with traffic crashes causing fatalities and serious injuries to road users. It has been identified driver fatigue has contributed to these crashes. One fatal crash occurred just 10 minutes from their destination. Research has identified fatigue driving affects drivers concentration and ability to control their vehicle in a similar way to driving under the influence of alcohol or a drug. Police are appealing to... the public to plan their trips and identify regular stops, think carefully about their fatigue and ability to drive the distance after working long hours for example, consider not driving at night on rural and remote roads due to the added risk of animal strikes and narrower roads. If you need to look for ways to maintain your concentration you are too tired to drive. Please consider your safety, the safety of other road users and the devastating consequences of making a wrong decision and driving whilst fatigued. Green areas on the map are lower risk fatigue zones. Central Queensland is directly in the danger zones. See more
