25.01.2022 Cultural Cooking with the Community Yesterday Yangebup Family Centre held a Cultural Cooking workshop, with special guest speaker Marissa VERMA from Bindi Bindi Dreaming (an Aboriginal family owned and operated business). Marissa is an extremely passionate lady and loves to share elder knowledge of how Noongar people are well connected to the land, continuing with traditions of hunting Kangaroo, Emu, fishing and gathering nuts & berries for food. ... During the workshop, the community and I were familiarised with some of the many bush spices available, working with traditional foods in a contemporary way. Marissa involved us in preparing a bush tucker lunch which included a tongue tingling fresh fruit salad with river mint spice and Davidsons plum powder, followed by Lemon Myrtle chicken with a chick pea salad and a delightful succulent kangaroo stew. The aromas and flavours were truly amazing. For those interested, some of these spices can be purchased in plant form from Bunnings and local garden centres. In addition to teaching about the versatility of bush tucker, Marissa explained the health benefits and healing properties associated with the consumption and use of native food. Should you wish to attend a workshop or learn more about Bindi Bindi Cultural tours, please contact Marissa on mob: 0417031707 or email [email protected] You can also follow Bindi Bindi dreaming on Facebook #native#food#sharing#elder#knowledge #keeping#tradition#alive# #enhancing#health#boosting#immune#system

15.01.2022 Community Engagement visited the Leeming Bowling Club to raise awareness on Motor Vehicle Crime and the importance of removing valuable from their vehicles when parked at the club. In excess of 60 cars were parked at the club, whilst members were down on the green engaged in the game. A cursory check revealed a number of cars had personal items of property on display, rendering them attractive to our light -fingered friends.... Prevention is key, so I arranged a leaflet drop, a note in the club newsletter and extra patrols by Melville security. At the time of my visit the sun was shining, the members were beginning their afternoon session of bowls and all were in good spirit. The members were keen to show off their skills and invited me to try my hand at the game. I had a couple of goes and didnt do too bad, but its not as easy as it looks. I did come away with a useful tip Its not how you bowl its how you roll. #RocknBowl #SecureitorLoseit

As school finished a sea of purple uniforms flocked towards us. I met some lovely families and together we discussed Road Safety, utilising the Stop/Look/Listen/Think concept. We also discussed the importance of wearing cycle helmets. Bill is clearly doing a wonderful job and has a good relationship with the community. It was lovely to see the students being so thankful and respectful to Bill. It is important we continue to show our gratitude towards our Traffic Wardens who keep us safe on the roads. A note to all road users on behalf of all our Traffic Wardens, please slow down on the approach to a crossing guard and wait for pedestrians to finish crossing the road before you continue on your way. #stay#safe#stay#alive
