25.01.2022 Some sneaky elves have set-up Santa's mailbox in Quay Street today and it's not even December! They have assured us that Santa has Mrs Claus and extra elves helping him this year to ensure all letters are replied to and received before Christmas Day! Grown-ups, please ensure letters are addressed to SANTA, NORTH POLE, 4700 and placed in Santa’s mailbox at Customs House before 10am Tuesday 15 December 2020.

24.01.2022 When Lisa from Boho Chick was forced to close her shop doors in January due to health reasons the community rallied behind her to get better with the hope they would see Boho Chick make a comeback one day. With the help of family and friends Boho Chick is now going strong as an online store bringing you vibes of Coachella with boho, flowy and fantastic fashions. "Theres a secret hippie that lives deep deep inside of my soul. In terms of hippie I mean the fashion. I am a lover for all things boho, flowy, fringe basically Coachella in a nutshell. When I think about Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer boho is always on my mind, the style its so lightweight, so comfortable, just so absolutely perfect for all seasons," says Lisa. 24.01.2022 We’ve seen some snapping good reviews for the re-imagined Swamp Store in Wood Street and recently enjoyed one of their signature burgers! Customers are coming from far and wide to try their croc burgers, scrumptious beef brisket and to-die-for hot chips. Oh my gosh!! Absolutely delicious!! 12 plus meals for us at work today and nothing but compliments!! The brisket was so tender!! Highly recommend the Swamp Store! Vicki V It’s been many years since the doors of The Swamp Store have been open and the new owners Connie and Tom (previously owners and managers of Kanangra Heights) are loving the local support, we have received wonderful support from everyone and find all the local kids have lovely manners. We sat down with Connie to find out about their journey to the Swamp Store We are both of Dutch background. Tom's family immigrated to Australia when he was 9, and I have lived in Australia since I was 16. Tom is a plasterer turned short order cook, and I spent 30+ years in agriculture. Prior to buying the Swamp Store we owned and managed Kanangra Heights Restaurant which is a bit different to owning a corner store. We originally bought the Kanangra property to renovate it and to our surprise we ended up in the hospitality industry! We bought the Swamp Store when it came on the market and admittedly it sat idle for a while as Kanangra kept us busier than anticipated. Earlier this year COVID saw us mothballing Kanangra (which is now under new management) and moving into a quaint little church in Depot Hill opposite the Swamp Store. Both have been huge renovation projects for us in our ‘spare’ time. What keeps us going is a piece of advice my grandmother once gave me ‘a job half done is not done at all,’ which seems to have stuck with me for an awfully long time! We have loved the move to Depot Hill where the community has been nothing short of wonderful. I walk the neighbour’s dog sometimes and as you stroll past their little gardens you can see a sense of pride there of what they have achieved; it’s a great community to be part of. 20.01.2022 With 158 years of history in the Rockhampton community Stewarts Rockhampton is still a much loved business in our CBD. Established in 1862, Stewarts has seen a lot of changes over time but their good, old-fashioned service hasn't. Wondering how Stewarts Department Store came about? 'James Stewart migrated to Australia in his twentieth year, having completed his apprenticeship in the drapery trade in Perth, Scotland. His lack of success on the Victorian gold-diggings prompte...d him to return to his own trade, first in Melbourne and then with his twin brother's [Alexander Stewart] firm in Brisbane - Hemmant & Stewart. In 1862 he was sent to open a branch in Rockhampton and did so in a shop owned by Surveyor A.F. Wood on the corner of Denham and Bolsover Streets. Despite much competition and a small population the business thrived and in mid 1864 Stewart moved the concern into the firm's newly built premises on the corner of East and Denham Streets 'with the largest stock yet offered to Rockhamptonites'. 14.01.2022 When you next go up to the Nurim Boardwalk on Mount Archer, be sure to take in the latest pieces of public art three seats with spectacular views of Tunuba (Fitzroy) River, inspired by a traditional artwork by artist Ernest Garrett. Ernest Garrett is an indigenous artist belonging to the Darumbal mob on his father's side and Wulli Wulli on his mother's. He grew up on his father's country in Rockhampton including the river Tunuba. He gains inspiration from places like the Tu...nuba River, our native country and family. Local non-Indigenous artist Michelle Black worked with a palette of timber and rusted-look steel to draw on Ernest Garrett’s original artwork’s imagery and symbols of gathering places along the river, along with local flora and landscape vistas, as inspiration. #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOC2020 #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

The pump track is Queenslands largest and is designed for riders of all ages and skill levels. What an awesome attraction for the Gracemere community! Despite having to close for 2 months due to COVID the Mount Morgan Gallery team has achieved so much for the arts community. 06.01.2022 Rockhampton Zoo's mischievous meerkats are nearly ready to meet you! The curious bunch are settling in at Rockhampton Zoo and should be ready for public viewing in December. The mob is made up of four females and includes a mother, an adult daughter, as well as two pups. The mother’s name is Aya and she is 5 and a half years old, the eldest daughter is Sabari, who is 15 months, and the two pups - Keeya and Mahlia - are both three and a half months. The exhibit, which is loca...ted near the chimp enclosure and the dome aviary, has been carefully constructed to replicate their desert habitat by giving them lots of nooks and crannies to tunnel in, and high sentry posts like termite mounds.
