25.01.2022 Cancer continues to kill more children in Australia than any other disease. Each year, more than 900 Australian children are diagnosed with cancer, but only 84 per cent of these children will survive. Its a confronting reality that doesnt discriminate. Thats why My Room is committed to finding a 100 per cent cure rate for all childhood cancers. The world is navigating its new normal as we manage life during a global pandemic. Meanwhile, thousands of Australian patients a...nd families affected by childhood cancer continue to fight an uphill battle. In 2019, it was estimated that 804 children aged 0 to 14 years were newly diagnosed with cancer in Australia. Thats why My Room is committed to supporting patients and families during their treatment journey and into their future. This year, My Room has had to adjust its social calendar thanks to COVID-19 restrictions. As such, weve had to forgo all our community fundraising initiatives including our My Ride and My Row events, participation in the 2020 Australian Grand Prix as the official charity partner, and cancel our annual My Room Gala Ball and Charity Auction. But we wont let a global pandemic slow us down. Thats why My Room is hosting a Care + Cure campaign to raise vital funds for our four funding pillars: Family support, Medical equipment, Clinical care, and Research & trials. We kindly ask that in lieu of this years social fundraising initiatives, you can find it in your hearts and wallets to dig deep and help us continue our plight for a world without childhood cancer, says My Room CEO Margaret Zita OAM. Childhood should be a carefree time, filled with play, fun, and laughter. Thankfully, survival rates for a number of cancers are on the rise, but theres still work to be done. There are thousands of Australian patients and families affected by childhood cancer that needs us, and they need your support. 25.01.2022 Selma Sudic, mum to Esma; a young cancer patient now in remission, speaks about her struggles during their childhood cancer journey and how My Room was there to help. My Room helped me a lot through my journey and even afterwards. They paid for the roof over our heads, bills, food, car park, absolutely everything in every way possible. They went above and beyond to accommodate me and my family, and to make things a little easier for us to focus on being together and spending... that quality time with each other. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, My Room has had to adjust its social calendar. As such, weve had to forgo all our community fundraising initiatives. Thats why My Room is hosting a Care + Cure campaign to raise vital funds for families like Selmas. DONATE NOW!

21.01.2022 It was exciting for Simonds Homes and Satterley to handover the Home for a Cure 2019 home to its owners Mariah and Lloyd. By buying this home, Mariah and Lloyd have helped to raise $550,000 for My Room. Mariah and Lloyd brought the home at the auction in August 2019 and are moving into the Simonds 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home. Mariah said "she just couldnt be happier". Especially as it included an Adriatic Furniture package. The home in Satterleys ...popular Botanical, Mickleham estate, is opposite a park soon to be opened and close to a new shopping centre site. Perfect for Mariah and Lloyds young family. Thank you to all the suppliers and trades that helped create this very special new home that really will make a difference to the families living through a childhood cancer journey. See more

20.01.2022 Kristin Mellett has been working as a pediatric dietitian in oncology since 2000. She has been working in a position funded by My Room since 2017. She is able to see all children and adolescents at diagnosis and throughout treatment and ensure all children are given dietary advice and nutrition support to ensure optimal health and recovery during treatment. My job is very rewarding as I am able to get to know the children and families from the start of their treatment right until they enter the long term follow up surveillance program. I feel my role is viewed by families as an important member of the team due to the varied diet related side effects most of our children experience.

20.01.2022 Australia’s favourite renovation show, The Block, broke records last night after selling five incredible family homes in the Grand Finale Auction and giving away more money than ever. As if breaking financial records wasn’t enough, philanthropist Danny Wallis made history by purchasing three Block properties on auction day. Daniel and Jade’s home was the one that Danny was most proud to purchase understanding the hardships the South Australian farmer couple have endured hav...ing a child with severe health problems. Danny purchased their home and will now allow My Room to use it exclusively to provide families a place to stay during treatment. The My Room Children’s Cancer Charity do so many wonderful things for sick children and their families, and they will benefit so much from having access to Daniel and Jade’s amazing home says Danny. As My Room knows all too well, because of the intensity of some cancer treatment protocols, regional and interstate families are often relocated to Melbourne for 2-3 months at a time. This opportunity would allow My Room to house some of these families during the coming years. Danny mentions It is made extra special for me because I know Daniel and Jade have been through so much with their daughter Isla over the years, in and out of hospital, and they will understand just how important the house will be for My Room and all the incredible work they do for sick children and their families. Words fail us for the generosity granted to the charity. We offer Danny Wallis a truly heartfelt THANK YOU!
