25.01.2022 Day 3 of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence: We say STOP locking up Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and instead, INVEST in self-determined solutions and culturally safe services such as our Family Violence and Preventional Legal Services. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are overwhelmingly imprisoned for non-violent offences related to homelessness and poverty, often due to family violence. In solidarity with the National Family Violenc...e Prevention Legal Services, every day for 16 days, NAAFLS will be posting a square with a new action, calling on State, Territory and Commonwealth governments to take action to end the national emergency of violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This year's theme is ORANGE THE WORLD: Fund Prevent, Respond, Collect! Please share and spread the word. #16DaysOfActivism #OrangeTheWorld #FVPLS #NoMoreAU
25.01.2022 VENUE UPDATE! Please note this event venue has been updated: Hilton Hotel, 32 Mitchell Street, Darwin. If you know someone attending, please let them know.
24.01.2022 We would like to thank everyone who attended our Ochre Ribbon breakfast this morning at the Hilton. What a great turnout and such a successful event. We would especially like to thank Leanne Liddle, Director of the Aboriginal Justice Unit for her powerful and insightful speech about the NT Aboriginal Justice Agreement, and how it aims to reduce the rates of domestic and family violence in Aboriginal communities throughout the Northern Territory. #OchreRibbonWeek #DontSilenceTheViolence
24.01.2022 The NT Government is about to introduce some of the harshest youth justice laws in the country. As a trauma informed Aboriginal Family Violence Prevention Legal Service, NAAFLS believes the Chief Minister should implement the recommendations of the Royal Commission in to Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, tabled 30 years ago. NAAFLS attended the Darwin protest this morning in support of the community seeking to stop the law reforms.
23.01.2022 Thank you to North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service for organising the Ochre Ribbon Week Breakfast today, and to Leanne Liddle for a powerful presenta...tion on the priorities and implementation of the NT Aboriginal Justice Agreement. #OchreRibbonWeek is dedicated to ending domestic and family violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children. Here in the Territory, too many children are victims of domestic and family violence and experience the ongoing impact of trauma as a result. We join with local communities in calling on all levels of governments to invest in culturally appropriate, trauma-informed services to support and assist communities, victims and perpetrators of domestic and family violence.
22.01.2022 We had a wonderful morning joining in the Katherine NAIDOC march #NAIDOC2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe

Family violence is the LEADING CAUSE of homelessness for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. The public housing waitlists are TOO LONG. Investment is NEEDED. In solidarity with the National Family Violence Prevention Legal Services, every day for 16 days, NAAFLS will be post...ing a square with a new action, calling on State, Territory and Commonwealth governments to take action to end the national emergency of violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
