25.01.2022 We would like to say a huge congratulations to Mikayla Pauga on receiving the Riewoldt Family AFL Excellence Scholarship at Bond University. Bond University Scholars are chosen based on their academic ability, demonstrated leadership skills, extensive community and extra-curricular involvement and personal character. One of the defining experiences of being a Bond University Scholar is becoming part of a prestigious and global network of scholars, in turn forming valuable ...connections and friendships that will last a lifetime. Past and current scholarship recipients hold leadership positions at the University and within the community. Well done Mikayla we look forward seeing your future successes. Good luck in 2021!

25.01.2022 Yesterday the teachers were challenged by the students at first break in a teacher vs student volleyball game. Big thank you to Ms Kendall for organising it all.

25.01.2022 SMA showcase With only one week to prepare our extremely talented SMA students got a chance to showcase their outstanding work. 24.01.2022 Principal's Update Holidays! Yes, it is that time and I wish everyone the very best for a safe and family oriented holiday. This week saw the commencement of the Air Conditioning install and it will be full on from here. There will be a mountain of facilities work being done over the holidays, which is all about making sure that our school is kept in the best condition. Thanks to our amazing Business Managers, Mrs Lisa Harriss and Mrs Carmel Smith for their untiring work in k...eeping on top of this and planning our school for the future. Today we announced that after a number of years, we have appointed a permanent Science Head of Department for 2021 and we congratulate Mr Dane Jeffries (currently acting in the role) on his appointment. Mr Jeffries has been doing a terrific job and leading our science department positively and strategically. Well done Dane. Mrs Wayner, Mrs Cook, myself and the Events committee have been working very hard to ensure our events scheduled for next term are on track. There is much work to do with COVID safe preparations and these are still ongoing. We met today at the Morayfield Sports and Events Centre to continue the planning for submission of the event plan to Queensland Heatlh. None of us imagined what work Covid would create! We will keep you all posted on the plans for Celebration Showcase and Graduation. The School Captains met with Mrs Wayner and myself to discuss Graduation and end of year formalities. Such incredibly mature and intelligent leaders - Mel, Dane, Lauren and Ali. Check out their message on Instagram. To our students, well done on another term full of inspiration, innovation and resilience. The Narangba Valley community should be very proud of our young folk and work together as a team to encourage, develop and guide our 'village'. Everyone has a responsibility to be great role models and to monitor and shape the behaviour and attitudes of our children - it's not just the school's responsibility. Some young people struggle to make good choices, but let us as a community set the standard, have the conversations where they are needed and support those who need it. I make this point especially around social media - a great tool when used wisely, but easily misused. Remember the eSafe commission is there to help. I am really looking forward to Term 4 to see what heights we can attain. All the best Steven Miskin Executive Principal

23.01.2022 This Year Education Queensland invites student who completed year 12 to participate in the Next Step Survey. Your say can help grow the future of learning.

22.01.2022 Last night our extremely talented Instrumental Music Team put on a spectacular display of hard work and talent. After being rained out from the original date they continued to practice and be in perfect form for last nights performances. It was very clear that these students have shown resilience throughout the year and it was great to be able to see them perform in front of an audience to showcase an awesome display of hard work and talent. Thank you to all our dedicated teachers for putting in endless hours so students can achieve their goals. Also a huge shout out to one of year 11 students Caitlyn for her photography skills.

22.01.2022 Principal's Update It was a most unusual week with a chilly breeze running through the school - winter has come! For me, it's a far cry from Townsville where I think I wore a jumper maybe once in the year at school. Junior Assembly on Monday was another great celebration of school activities and we were entertained by a magnificent piano solo with our very talented Zach playing some Linkin Park "In the end" (one of my favourite songs!). It was an amazing performance and this ...young man will go far. On assembly we talked about Commitment, one of our core values, and unpacked what it means, what it looks like and what the benefits are for us all. I also showed the Juniors a bit of 1970s culture with some great old film clips about "Do the Right Thing" to reinforce our commitment to keeping our environment clean. It was hilarious to see the fashions (Oh, those shorts and those hair cuts!). On Tuesday I was stoked to visit Mrs Cowan's Year 7 BIT class who are doing "CS in Schools" which is a new program focussed on programming. The students were actively creating computer games using Python, one of the industry standard programming languages. For me, it was a trip down memory lane as a former programmer and also seeing the text based computer games like Zork from the 70s. Well done to our Business teachers for introducing such a fantastic program. We won’t talk much about State of Origin (sigh) but we will say how much fun it was during the day to see some friendly rivalry happening with our Non Uniform day which raised some great funds for the SRC. On Friday we met with the NOVAs executive team, Mel and Kirsten, to set the agenda for the Netball precinct development. The NOVAs are absolutely committed to developing a first class precinct on our site with new courts, some covered, lights and much more. This is an exciting partnership. Next Tuesday should be some great fun with the Senior Leaders as they learn about teamwork and problem solving with an Escape Room venture. Should be great! If you don't see me on Wednesday, please send out a search party ... Always so many great things going on. If you know of an achievement of one of our students (even your own child!), then make sure we know about it. Do send us the information and we will let the community know about it. All the best Steven Miskin Executive Principal

22.01.2022 Wonder of Science Year 9 STATE CHAMPIONS!!! Congratulations, our Year 9 team has today WON the State Championship for the Wonder of Science competition sponsored by QUT and University of Queensland. More details next week, but this is huge! Mrs Vinaccia, team mentor, just advised us! Well done to our girls!!!!

21.01.2022 As the weather gets hotter we need to remember to wear our hats, sunscreen, find shade and drink water. Its great to see the boys taking time over winter to grow out their mullets for that extra sun protection.

21.01.2022 A year of uncertainty didn’t stop the biggest collection of school equestrian talent from competing in this year’s Queensland State Championship. Two Narangba Valley SHS students Jacinta (yr9) and Jorja (yr7) were busy decorating their stables and representing the school in the last week of September holidays. Jacinta competed in 2 disciplines: Show Horse and Dressage. She faced tough competition with both disciplines having a strong field and with a lot of participants. Jac...inta’s came home with 11th overall for Show horse, 17th in Prelim Dressage and 13th in Novice Dressage. Jorja showed resilience in her 2 disciplines; Dressage and Combined Training. This was the first year Jorja competed in the Secondary competition. Being one of the youngest competitors with only a 14.2hh pony Jorja had a challenge ahead. Despite the fancy riders and even fancier warmblood horses she came away with amazing results. Jorja came away with the win for Elementary Freestyle, 2nd place for Elementary Dressage (with only .1% & .6% separating 1st & 2nd place) and 2nd in the Combined Training Dressage. As there are no nationals’ teams this year Jorja performance placed her on the Merit Team. Jorja also had the opportunity to compete in the very prestigious Brisbane CDN & Qld State Dressage Championships over the last week of term 3. She also competed in CDI - Pony classes and had 3 winning tests to take out the CDN-Pony Overall Championship. Well done girls! I cannot wait to see what next year brings!

19.01.2022 Faculty Friday - Yr 12 PE (adding technology into fitness) Last week the Yr 12’s used technology in their practically lesson. They are using GPS devices to track their top speeds, total distance covered and field movement, amongst other things.

18.01.2022 New student free days Term 4! 10th & 11 of December In recognition of the outstanding efforts of school staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, the last two days of the school year, Thursday 10 and Friday 11 December have been declared student free days. Our school will be closed on these days.

18.01.2022 Yesterday we ran the 2021 swim carnival and what a success it was! The holiday festival theme was a hit, with costumes ranging from Christmas to Hawaiian holidays. We had Volleyball and dodge ball happening at one end of the aquatic centre and tug of war and dunk the teacher up the other end. In the main 50 metre swimming pool the students put their sport talent to the test! They had the opportunity to swim freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke. The blistering hot day ended with the iconic teacher vs student relay, and as most people expected the students won. And the Champions of the 2021 Swimming Carnival were Kirrawa! Well done to everyone!

18.01.2022 Today we say our final farewell to the year 12 cohort of 2020. We will miss your bright smiles and laughter around the school. Good luck with all your future endeavors!

18.01.2022 June 15 - School Cleaner Day. Today we say a massive thank you to all of our amazing cleaners, now more than ever, we are extremely grateful for our hardworking cleaning team who work tirelessly to maintain a safe and hygienic school for our students, teachers and community. We would also like to recognise one in particular, Amanda Allen. Twenty-one years Narangba Valley State High School has been opened and during this we have had the privilege of working with Amanda Allen.... Amanda is a foundation member of staff who has been a part of keeping our school grounds clean and tidy since the gates first opened in 2000. She has a smile on her face that brings joy, she is reliable, compassionate, down to earth and is considerate of staff, whether it be opening the blinds to let the morning sun in or turning on the heater on these freezing mornings. Amanda is a treasured part of our school team. She is hard working, highly effective and always aiming to excel in her duties. Amanda is very personable and relates very well to all those around her. She is a proud Narangba Valley staff member who clearly enjoys working here and helping our school to succeed. (Executive Principal Steven Miskin)

17.01.2022 Inspiration, innovation and resilience! This is the that exact definition of our Year 10 Idustrial Technology Manufacturing students this term. Although they missed 6 weeks of last term and were already behind they managed to create some absolutely amazing and extremely complicated design work this term. ... Students were innovative as they had to design and make a shadow box lamp using the design software Autodesk Inventor. This is an extremely complicated and difficult task and the ability of the students should really be commended. Along with this students also had to complete a very detailed PowerPoint to accompany their designs. A shout out to the Teachers involved as they showed resilience in their endless work lasercutting through their lunchtimes aswell as before and after school. Well done team!

15.01.2022 Attention parents eSaftey commissioner is having a webinar that will be focusing on popular apps such as ‘Tik Tok, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube on the 7th of October at 12.30pm. Follow the link below.

14.01.2022 Principal's Update Well, well .. Kirrawa did it again and won the Swimming Carnival. So Goannas can swim! The swimming carnival was an outstanding success and our students had the best day. It was my first carnival at the Aquatic Centre and I am so pleased we use that great facility. Our teachers put on a great day for the students and the range of activities was great, including the big teacher dunk, dodge ball and a variety of other things, and of course, the SWIMMING! Our ...new House Leaders did a brilliant job all day and have set the scene for their leadership into 2021. The teacher student relay competition was a sight to be seen and I commend the efforts by everyone. We will be keeping this date for the future, with so many benefits in terms of school disruption, heat and flooding! Next week we are going to be joined by our new recruits for 2021 with the 2 Year 6 transition days happening. This is their chance to see what high school is like and meet students from other schools. We are really looking forward to seeing them! On Monday night, the day before the Year 6s come, their parents are coming in at 5 pm for their introduction to high school as well. It's a great chance to meet our key staff and ask questions. Today is the last day for Year 10 and 11 students and we wish them the best for a safe and happy holiday. For these 2 year levels, they know that next year is HUGE, so rest up and get ready! We now have 8 school days left this year and I remind all parents and carers that attendance is expected for all Year 7, 8 and 9 students right up until the last day, Wednesday December 9th. I am very happy to see the great increase in the number of hats being worn by our students as they start to appreciate the real dangers of Skin Cancer. Of course, I won't be really happy until EVERY child wears a hat to school, so let's keep at it! My photo for this week is one that was taken with our 2021 School Captains. Aren't they just the best?! All the best Steven Miskin Executive Principal

09.01.2022 Principal update What a busy week again! As reported earlier this week, it was our 2021 leadership speeches by our prospective student leaders on Monday. I am sure everyone is keen to hear the outcome next term. Whoever is selected, I am full of confidence about our future having listened to the passionate and intelligent speeches by our young leader aspirants. I had the pleasure of visiting Ms Bentley's Year 8 DAT class where I saw the keen work that our wood working student...s are doing. They were rightly proud of their efforts! Wednesday morning saw the Business Managers and I meeting with the Air Conditioning install crew as we planned for the installation. This begins THIS WEEK which is very exciting. I will let everyone know, however, that the electrical upgrades will flow on as the installation proceeds, so we need to be prepared for a short wait for them to be in operation. Still, I'm sure we can wait! On Friday, I met with the NOVAs (Netball Club) and our Regional Facilities team to discuss the building of the new courts on our site. This should begin in December! We look forward to working with our friends at the NOVAs as we support this great sport for our young women and to enhance the facilities for our Netball Academy. On Friday afternoon, accompanied by two Year 7s Harrison and Ria, I visited Narangba Valley Primary school to talk to the Year 6s. This was about giving the 'real' information to the students so we could dispel some of the myths and also to help the Year 6s understand the exciting journey they are about to commence in 2021. I am delighted that we have such excellent primary schools, and I congratulate Mrs Cogle and her team for the amazing work they do there. Last week before the holidays - we are still working hard, right to the end as "each day is a valuable day of learning". All the best Steven Miskin Executive Principal

04.01.2022 Principal's Update Sorry for the lateness! Unfortunately I didn't quite make the recovery i had hoped for last week and was missing for most of the week. All better now, and great to be back in the best school EVER! Friday was the official last day for our Year 12s and we wish the graduating class of 2020, the very best for the future. A great leadership team who have set the bench mark for all years who are following them.... Swimming Carnival is coming up this week and can't wait to see who will be the champions. This day, back at our usual venue, should be another great NVSHS day. A reminder that tomorrow night, Tuesday, is our P&C meeting. We look forward to seeing as many as possible. 6 pm in the ENVY room in the admin building. I saw today in my 'walk about' that there is much assessment going on in all year levels. My best wishes to all students who are trying their very best. Steven Miskin Executive Principal

03.01.2022 Last weekend it wasn’t only the Girls Hockey team going above and beyond, we also had two of our own students Jake year 11 and Lachlan year 12 represent in the Queensland School Boys Under19 Hockey Champs at Cairns last weekend. Well done boys!

02.01.2022 Principal's Update The end of the year is only 3 school days away, but learning has not stopped! Neither have the activities, and we look forward to particularly the Year 9 Graduation ceremony on Monday. Unfortunately with COVID, we can only have the students in attendance this year. It is a great celebration for our Year 9s as they leave Junior Secondary and head into the Senior School and the new uniforms. From time to time I get emails from members of the community to prai...se our students and I thought I would share this one with you, as it really supports what I know about our wonderful students: "To the Headmaster, Narangba Valley State High School, Dear Sir, I am a pensioner that lives in Narangba and I strive to take a walk around McDonald Road lake as often as possible. In the process of doing so, I often encounter students from your school. I have always found them to be friendly, outgoing and polite, never once having had a negative experience with any of them. I felt it would be remiss of me to not bring this to your attention. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff for doing an obviously wonderful job of turning children into fine young adults. Kind regards" How nice is that! We do have great young folk and their good stories need to be told! An exciting week as you would have seen with our 2021 group of Year 7s coming in to the school as part of the transition. The day was full of activity and learning about high school. The students were so well behaved, keen and ready to engage. Our Junior Secondary leaders did a brilliant job assisting on the day and had great things to say about the new recruits. It was incredible to see the variety of primary school shirts reflecting the diversity of students coming - they included Kurwongbah, North Pine Christian, Narangba, Jinibara, Norris Road, Mango Hill, Burpengary, NV State School, Burpengary Meadows, Aspley East, Bounty Boulevard, Bray Park, Camira, Dakabin, Dayboro, Kippa Ring, Living Faith, Minimbah, Morayfield East, Moreton Downs, Our Lady of the Way, Payne Road, St Michaels, St Peters, Strathpine and Woodford. How's that for a list! It also shows the number of folk moving into our Narangba Valley Community. Yesterday was a real showcase of our Science and Mathematics Excellence with the exhibition of their work. I saw everything from bridge parabolas to invisibility to human bodies to catapults. Our students were so proud to show their work, and of course, their principal is very proud of them. We also got to show off the banner for the team that won the "Wonder of Science" state finals. So, Wednesday is our last day of the year, and what a year it has been. Report cards out soon! All the best Steven Miskin Executive Principal
