10.01.2022 Spring is in the air!!!

09.01.2022 In 1840, William and Elizabeth Rowe and their two children set sail from England to Australia. In 1841 they settled at Naringal on the creek, along side the local Indigenous people led by Charlie. They all got along well which was unusual at the time, but I believe says a lot about Rowe and his integrity. The Rowe’s were sheep (wool) farmers. Life was tough, they worked hard in poor conditions typical of the time. The first photo shows haystack and stables set on the creek.... Little cottages ,sheds and paddocks in the background. Here was a whole village. Sadly in 1944, a fire came through and ruined most of these buildings you see in this photo. Today the quince, mulberry and other trees are still stoic to tell the story. The renovated hut still standing. The cemetery on the creek, just beyond this photo, still amazing and spiritual to this day, just like yesterday. Thankfully we have photos and history to keep history alive. The original homestead today, set upon the hill and now a simple Farmstay for everyone to enjoy, built in 1904, renovated after fires in 1944. Thanks to the Rowe’s, we can still enjoy this part of Australia’s first settlers. #naringalstation #settled1841 #firstpioneers #westerndistrict #victoria
