24.01.2022 More Kingfish Stocked Into Botany Bay! Approximately 600 kingfish are being stocked into the Botany Bay Recreational Fishing Haven, further enhancing local fi...shing opportunities for these prized sportfish. This latest stocking follows on from the release of 6500 kingies into the bay earlier in the year. Combined, these stocking events are boosting the kingfish population and will provide better fishing. All the kingies stocked so far were bred at DPIs marine hatchery at the Port Stephens Fisheries Institute, with fish in this latest batch averaging about 20-25cm in length. Survival and growth rates of these juveniles should be excellent. The kingfish stockings are being monitored by DPI researchers to assess distribution and survival of the fish in the system. Stay tuned for news on more stockings planned later this summer season. This marine stocking project is another example of your recreational fishing licence fees at work!
24.01.2022 Perils of the deep! This 400 lb. swordfish attacked a submersible that was inspecting an oil platform off Brazil. Unfortunately, the fish became entangled in the submersible and had to be restrained with the subs mechanical arm. #HammerheadNation Photo Credit: BillfishReport.com

21.01.2022 Oh, snap! Recently, recreational fisher Karl Becker caught a 46cm snapper off Wollongong, NSW. Little did he know that it had quite a history! While cleaning t...he fish, he discovered an internal tag with a phone number on it. Turns out this same snapper had been tagged by VFA scientists back in March 199921 years ago! It was tagged and released at the bottom of Lake Mallacoota, measuring 21cm at the time. So, in just over 20 years the snapper grew 25cm. Snapper are known to live for up to 39 years and are capable of growing to up to 110cm in total length. We know that this snapper was 23 years old, so its a slow grower. Did you know that the Victorian snapper fishery is divided into two main stocks? Theres the western Victorian stock (from Wilsons Promontory to Investigator Strait in SA) and the eastern Victorian stock (from Wilsons Promontory to southern NSW). Port Phillip is the main spawning ground for western snapper stocks, whereas inshore reefs around Lakes Entrance are thought to be essential spawning grounds for the eastern snapper stock, which extends up to the NSW coast below Sydney. #fisheriesscience #snapper

13.01.2022 Evans Head South Wall ANSA NSW and RFANSW have received and confirmed reports that the Angel Ring is missing from its post. Arrangements are being made to couri...er two rings to Evans Head this week, one to replace the missing ring, the other as a spare which is located at the Evans Head Sports and Marine, see Neil or Narrelle. If you see one of our distinctive Orange Life Buoys with the Trust Fund and ANSA NSW logos, washed up on a beach, up a river, or the worst case in some ones back yard, then please call the ANSA NSW FreeCall 1800 079 009 and leave your details and a brief message.
12.01.2022 Had an informal trip up to the reefs east of Tuross Heads today, the day went well - fish wise, but I will be off the water for a week while I sort out a mechan...ical problem (probably a worn uni-joint). The fish of the day went to Jason, a nice fat snapper of 64cm, other reds around the 45-50cm range all fell to fresh squid baits. Despite our efforts, we couldnt get the bigger snapper to release successfully, as they came out of 65mts of water, so they are destined for the dinner plate. Also boated a nice bag of morwong, nannygai and some cracker flathead - destined for my dinner plate tonight. A reliable report of a 68cm kingfish taken at Montague Is by a Narooma local, there must be some more around, but these reds are hard to ignore. The decision for the next couple of months will be to either go North to Tuross, or East to Montague! See more

11.01.2022 BIG FISH MAKE BIG SPLASH AT LAKE LYELL Local recreational fishers have 100 more reasons to wet a line, following the release of mature Rainbow Trout broodstock ...from the States re-stocking program into Lake Lyell today. Member for Bathurst Paul Toole was on hand for the stocking event near Lithgow and said it was great news for local anglers. These 100 Rainbow trout were broodstock, and are part of the States re-stocking program to keep our local waterways full of healthy fish, Mr Toole said. At around 70 centimetres long, and some even weighing up to 4 kilograms, our regions passionate fishos might have a tough time reeling them in. This is great news for anglers who I know are excited to see fish populations flourish with not just these Rainbow trout, but also Brown trout. The States fisheries experts have chosen to stock Lake Lyell because it has one of the best environments for these fish to grow. It is an ideal location, right in our backyard. Mr Toole said the fish came from the State Governments Dutton Trout Hatchery, which produces more than 1.6 million trout each year around 1.3 million Rainbow Trout and 300,000 Brown Trout fry and fingerlings. The NSW Government is committed to supporting the States valuable recreational fishing sector, and as both the Member for Bathurst and a member of the NSW Nationals it brings me great joy to give anglers great catches, Mr Toole said. These fish are stocked in streams and impoundments throughout the Central Tablelands to support our fantastic trout fisheries and all the benefits that trout fishing offers. Mr Toole said that in conjunction with the Gaden Trout Hatchery at Jindabyne, this is part of the Governments overall stocking program of three million trout and salmon produced each year. Recreational fishers are reminded that they are required to carry a NSW current recreational fishing fee receipt at all times while fishing. Recreational fishers are encouraged to use the NSW Recreational Fishing Guide, available from DPI Fisheries Offices, most tackle shops or online at www.fisheries.nsw.gov.au
10.01.2022 SPRING NEWSLETTER 2020 I would like to thank the past and present Committee and members for the pleasure of serving the Narooma Game fishing club. I feel it is time to step down and let some of the younger members take over. Big changes have taken place in the club over the past 6 years, all for the better I may add, and the credit for that must especially go to Les and Sue Waldoc for their hard work over the years. It has been a great privilege to be involved with the ...young people from canteen, a great bunch of young people, and without the the support from the members and local community it could never have been the success it has been. I am handing over the Face book page to John Redman as the new administrator in a healthy state I am pleased to say, we have nearly 1100 followers from all over the world, so keep sending in the photos, maybe with a few more comments to make life a bit easier for John Thank you all, Jan Hemmingsen

07.01.2022 The BB Boaters Association made a presentation to Council regarding NOT removing the Clyde Street boat ramp. We offered all Counsellors an opportunity to visit... the site and to talk directly with boaters and fishers about the facts and our vision for an activated foreshore and the use of the ramp. Did any Counsellor contact us? NO not on your life would they be seen to find out the facts because there would be consequences within the Council. The boat ramp is about to be closed by John Holland to continue building the bridge safely. We understand you cant make an omelette without breaking and egg but a boat ramp? You can put it back together again better with more facilities like floating pontoons. Why not
