20.01.2022 Narooma Physiotherapy would like to invite you to an introduction to Netball Australias Knee Injury Prevention Program. Designed by the physio for the Diamonds, it targets the 4 main risk areas in Netball - take off, landing, deceleration and change of direction. Teaching and practising good technique in these areas can reduce the risk of injury to knees in particular, but ankles and lower limbs in general. Designed as an on court warm up, fully supported by digital resources, it is easy to access and implement for any coaches. Come along and learn the basics, so you are confident to use it with your team, your children or yourself. No cost, but please RSVP so we can plan appropriately. ph 4476 1866. Tuesday May 2nd, 5.45 pm, at the practise.

20.01.2022 Hello everyone, Update: As from this Thursday 26 March we will stop operating out of our Bermagui Medical Centre location. This will give better protection against COVID-19 for our patients and staff. We ask all our Bermagui patients to attend our Narooma practice for their treatments until further notice. We understand that you may not feel comfortable with travel, or are unable to make the journey, and we apologise for the inconvenience.... The Health Minister has recognised Physiotherapy as an essential service to take pressure off our GPs and hospitals, and we remain open until further notice. All our safety measures remain in place, as per previous post. Please stay home if you feel unwell, or have recently traveled or have been near a diagnosed Covid-19 patient. Stay well everyone! Feel free to share our posts.

Apart from hands on treatment and exercise prescription, we also provide acupunc...ture and Pilates classes. We are grateful for your continued trust and business, and welcome new patients to come and meet us and the rest of the team. We have Jason and Lindsay (physios) and Gail, Bronwyn and Cat (our friendly reception staff). Drop in at 2 Tilba Street, Narooma, call us on 4476 1866, or visit our website www.naroomaphysio.com. 17.01.2022 Well done to all at Narooma Netball club, another successful season coming to a close. It takes a lot of dedication to travel, coach, play and umpire for the whole winter season. Good Luck to the teams preparing for the finals!

16.01.2022 Morning everyone, A quick note about STRETCHING: Our muscles, consisting of an anchoring tendon on either side, with a fleshy belly in the middle, have an optimum muscle length. This means that when a muscle is too tight, as well as too floppy, it cant perform as well as its meant to. The tighter the muscle becomes over time, the more the collagen fibers within it shorten, which eventually causes excess forces around the joints, as well as increases the risk of the muscle ...tearing during use. When a muscle is overstretched (for example prior to a game), it cant contract as powerfully and also performs less. The moral of the story: stretch AFTER activity and warm up BEFORE use. If we repeatedly and sufficiently stretch our muscle groups AFTER use, we prevent shortening over time, and therefore reduce injury risk. A stretch should be held 45 seconds (3x15) to make a lasting change in length, and repeated regularly until the muscle group doesnt complain anymore. Itll be ready for use and at its optimum length for your next workout. Just saying! See more

16.01.2022 Narooma Physio is please to be opening for a second day each week in Broulee... the new service is being well received!

16.01.2022 Morning everyone! We get questions about stretching daily, so I felt that sharing our previous post was a good reminder. Dont forget to stretch repeatedly AFTER exercise! We have a few of the coaches manuals left over from the presentations last year, and anyone interested is welcome to them. Mel will be at the netball courts most Saturdays, feel free to come and introduce yourself, Im happy to be a help implementing this prevention program. If you are not familiar with it, log on to knee.netball.com.au and have a look. It is quite self explanatory and all information is free to download. Happy Safe netballing!

14.01.2022 Good morning all, In relation to the virus, we remain open to provide treatment for acute and chronic issues and to help relief the pressure on GPs and hospitals. We have taken as many precautions as possible to keep patients and staff safe and minimise the risk of spreading infection. Its been a tough start to 2020 in our area, but we are striving to stay calm and positive In summary:... Please cancel your appointment if you are not feeling well and have recently travelled or been near a COVID 19-infected person. Please do not enter the practice but seek medical help. Please wash your hands with water and soap, both on arrival and before using our pin pad and desk area. Please keep a safe distance between others when waiting. Please stay behind the line on the floor when visiting the reception desk. If the waiting room seems full, please take a seat outside until more space becomes available. Our chairs in the waiting room have been separated Our physios may wear a mask dependent on their personal preference Our treatment beds have been stripped from their cover and get sanitised between every patient. As always, we use disposable paper for faces and feet. Door handles, chair arms and surfaces get hygenically wiped regularly We ask every patient to hand sanitise before touching our equipment We are looking into the viability of providing Telehealth in case of potential temporary closure in the future. There has recently been a call out on National tv to make this Medicare rebatable for all patients accessing allied health services, as this is currently not the case. Thanks everyone! https://youtu.be/GsGaMbyc2b4

10.01.2022 After saying our farewells to Joe and Ellie due to their relocation to Victoria, we are pleased to introduce Jason Dick, our newest physio, who started with us 3 weeks ago. He has settled in beautifully and is enjoying his new location, a welcome sea change from Penrith. In his own words: "I feel like Im on holidays!" Jason graduated with a Masters of Physiotherapy from University of Western Sydney and has a strong interest in sports, musculoskeletal therapy, injury prevention and rehabilitation. He is working in Narooma Monday and Thursday, and is taking on the Bermagui practise while Jo is away. Jo is off travelling the world for a few week, we wish her an amazing trip, and safe travels.

09.01.2022 Last night we had Mel do a free presentation at our Narooma practice on how to prevent knee injuries in Netball. Based on The Knee Program by Netball Australia, she taught us correct techniques during jumping, landing, deceleration and direction change. The presentation was well attended by coaches and players from the Narooma Netball team and we had fun filming and correcting each other during our jumps. Those attending have now been set up with, and are keen to implement this knowledge in to their training sessions, and we hope it leads to happy Netball knees! Well done, and a big thank you to Mel

09.01.2022 Spring has sprung at our practice! And with that comes gardening. This time of the year we typically have clients needing treatment for sore backs. Did you know that the sacro-iliac joints of the pelvis are often responsible for the onset of low back pain? These large joints have more joint play than is often believed, and they can twist out of alignment by repetitive asymmetric movement such as digging a garden, or pruning the side of a hedge. Playing golf is another culpri...t. Luckily our physiotherapists have specialised skills to treat pelvic torsions with muscle-energy techniques. You will be using your own muscles against the physios resistance to pull things back in place. If you suspect being out of alignment, come and see us! Call 4476 1866 to make an appointment in Narooma or Bermagui

09.01.2022 Goodmorning everyone! 09.01.2022 Hi everyone, I noticed there were a lot of views on our page this weekend, so I thought you may all want to be informed about our COVID 19 measures. The Australian Physiotherapy Association has advised its members to practise good hand washing hygiene, as well as asking people to stay away when unwell, especially if youve travelled overseas. As from tonight the government is asking all overseas arrivals to self isolate for a fortnight. This should help to flatten the curve... of the disease spread and slow it down, so our medical centres wont be inundated with a sudden high number of patients needing urgent medical help. The below poster will be displayed on our front door. We are also asking every patient to wash their hands with soapy water for 20 seconds on arrival. In addition, we have removed our treatment bed covers and will wipe down the plinths after every patient. We will also clean door handles, chairs and surfaces on a regular basis. Thanks everyone, may common sense and smiles prevail!

08.01.2022 Ever wondered what a Fascia is? The Latin word Fascia means band and we have many bands, or membranes, throughout our body. They are made up of tough collagen fibres and they typically surround groups of muscles or internal organs. They hold these in place and protect them from impact. There are many reasons why a fascia could become irritated or contracted, such as surgery, radio-therapy, over-use (think plantar fasciitis of the foot), or a lack of stretching of the muscle... groups they surround. Sometimes a genetic predisposition causes contraction, as is the case in Dupuytrens contracture of the fasciae in the palm of the hand. Luckily as Physios, we have many tools to address these problems. We use myo-fascia release techniques, we look at muscle imbalance , then use release versus strengthening exercises, we could use tape, ultrasound, or needling. Did you know that Jo Westoll is a wiz at Acupuncture? She has successfully used this as an addition to her hands-on physio techniques for many years, and has done regular updates, including a study trip to China. Also Jason Dick has recently completed a dry needling course and reports many successes. So if you require a fascia assessment and release, why not make an appointment with us, wed love to help! 01.01.2022 Hello everyone, For those of you dealing with falls, or knowing someone who is, there is good news. My physio friend Prof. Cathie Sherrington has tirelessly researched fall prevention for many years. A recent study, yet again, has shown a 40% reduced risk of falling when any one over 65 adheres to regular good quality (balance) exercises. That is a whole lot of benefit for relatively little effort! Have a look at her link https://www.facebook.com/100002051711068//1753431841401856/

01.01.2022 Wed like to say a huge Thank You to all our patients and referrers for your loyal custom and support this year, and to wish you a wonderful Christmas and healthy New Year. 01.01.2022 ACUTE SPORTS INJURY CLINIC With the sports season now up and running, we realised there was a need for more urgent advise for weekend sports injuries. We are excited to announce our Acute Sports Injury Clinic, run by Jason on Monday afternoon from 3.30-4.30pm, now operating in its third week, and proven to be a great success! Appointments are 15 minutes for urgent diagnosis and advise, with follow up appointments offered. Make sure to inform your local sports teams of this, ...and book early Monday morning, or leave a weekend answering machine message to avoid disappointment. If demand keeps up, we will look into extending the clinic hours. 44761866 Photo: Jozef Polc
