25.01.2022 Year 9 students Kenay S and Morgan P had fun looking at the effect of atmospheric pressure on objects; specifically though these imploding cans! They have been linking this to climate science and applying their knowledge to the more complex composition of the atmosphere. Similar out of this world experimentation has been going on with our STEM class who have been developing and launching bottle rockets; all in the name of Science!
25.01.2022 Do what you love and love what you do! A bright and early start for some of these Academy Football students. But training is always fun in the sun and our students always seem to be fired up and ready to start their school day after Academy sports. Boundless energy; nothing beats watching students do what they love.
25.01.2022 Year 11 students are currently undertaking their end of course exams in various rooms around the school. It was lovely to come across this group of students going through palm cards of study notes together before their exam. They had found a nice spot to study in peace and quiet before going into the exam room. ... Good luck Year 11!
25.01.2022 It's not all Shakespeare and spotlights in Drama! The development of trust and cooperation between students is just as important as the ability to learn lines. Ms Dalrymple takes a drama lesson outside and leads the Year 7/8 third Elective Drama class in a group problem solving game of Zombies. This game requires quick thinking, problem solving abilities, cooperation and movement to prevent the Zombie Apocalypse. We are happy to report that all students made it through the Apocalypse and brought all these new skills back into the drama room!
25.01.2022 Taking Challenge Day indoors and out. Organised by our hardworking High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) Committee, this year's Challenge day was a lot of fun as well as a big challenge! Running over two periods, the HPGE committee had designed a series of complex challenges to test a number of skills in these Year 7 students. This included looking at their critical thinking, ability to collaborate as well as team building skills; all known to be great predictors of an a...bility to take innovative approaches to problem solving. All students involved had an absolute blast. Thank you to the HPGE committee for making such fun and innovative challenges. Enjoy the photos and Happy Weekend!
23.01.2022 The Schools Recommendation Schemes (SRS) are one way that institutions make early offers of admission to students currently in Year 12. They do this by using criteria other than (or in addition to) the ATAR. SRS applications will close on September 20 and we urge any Year 12 student considering this scheme to log onto the Year 12 (2020) Careers Information Google Classroom. Our Careers Advisor, Ms Morris, is constantly updating this classroom to make sure students at Narrabe...en Sports High School never need to miss an opportunity. Good Luck SRS hopefuls!
22.01.2022 It's the final countdown... Year 12 embraced the Decades for the first of their dress up challenges and we saw the full range; but not all necessarily from this century! And while we all love a bit of the seventies or eighties, we surely have to give a special mention to the student who decided to embrace this particular moment in this decade dressing head to toe in PPE.... Well done Year 12! We can't wait to see what day two brings...
21.01.2022 Our current school captains were at the Year 12 breakfast this morning and it was lovely to chat with them about their experience of their leadership positions this year. All four talked about how much they had gained from their time as captains and they had some sage words of wisdom for our incoming leadership team! When reflecting on how far they had come in possibly one of the strangest schooling years of all time, all four agreed that their ability to speak in public and ...manage their time between school work and leadership responsibilities had developed immeasurably. They also discussed the important role of communication as they interfaced between the student body and teaching staff. We feel incredibly proud of these four amazing leaders. And it's not without a big sprinkling of sadness that Narrabeen Sports High School farewells these students The only silver lining is that we know we've got a great leadership team following in their footsteps! Jasmine N, Clancy M, Tanisha I and Angus B - thank you for all your hard work and dedication this year and enjoy your final few days as captains.

18.01.2022 Oh what a feeling! Our Academy surf students have without doubt, the best classroom in the world. We have loved watching these students learn from their amazing coaches and we wanted to show a sneak peak of what goes on during Academy Surf. A wonderful group of students and equally wonderful coaches!
18.01.2022 Ms Dalrymple's 3rd Elective Drama class had a busy morning learning lines for their upcoming performance of "21 Ways to Get Detention". The whole class was abuzz, with students clustered in groups rehearsing what really is wonderful play. So nice to see the class paying attention and supporting each other while practice performances were going on.
18.01.2022 The Wednesday Sports Bush Regeneration class are showing that they are at one with nature! They have been busy moving mulch and planting vegetable seedlings that will be moved to our new vegetable garden beds next week when we are expecting a visit from a gardening expert. Next week's visitor from Kimbriki will show us how to make a self watering garden bed to transplant these seedlings into.
15.01.2022 The adrenaline rush of a live performance was only enhanced last night by the appearance of a couple of technical glitches which meant we had to take it from the top a couple of times. But when we got on a roll, we got on a roll! We are sharing some behind the scenes shots with you to give you a glimpse into the world of MADD live streaming. The students were phenomenal and their behaviour was a credit to every parent out there. We were proud of how each student, especially t...hose presenting and interviewing, were able to go with the flow of a live stream event; even when things weren't going technically perfectly! Teachers Ms Buxton, Mr Woodford, Ms Karris and Ms Wilson have been hard at work today replacing cables and fine tuning the tech. We are looking forward to a grand finale style performance and live stream tonight. Thank you to the hundreds of parents who tuned in last night and supported our efforts to bring your child's performance into your home. We hope to see many more of you at tonight's showcase. Tickets are only $6 and can be purchased using the link below. Just a quick reminder that parents are asked not to come onto school grounds after dropping their child off. It's really important that we observe all the current safety rules. https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=653151
15.01.2022 Two minds are definitely better than one at times! The Senior Tutorial Centre is proving it's worth for Year 11 students this week. Our amazing tutor, Kym stayed back late to help one such Year 11 student with a maths assignment. He was so caught up in the equation that he just had to stay on until they had cracked the problem together! This facility is such a boon for our senior students and goes a long way to supporting students manage workload. ... Please do encourage your child to come along to a session if you feel they seem a bit 'swamped'. It is so important for all students, particularly senior students with additional workloads, to feel supported and that help is on hand.
15.01.2022 Ms Pearce and her Ancient History class are basking in the glory of a big win today! Our amazing 2020 Prefect Team hosted a school wide KAHOOT session as part of the virtual Narrafair. Streamed into every class in the school, there was a bit of healthy competition on display but in the end, Year 12 Ancient History were victorious.... It's lovely to see the interaction between year groups as we approach the end of term; even if it is 'virtual' contact!
14.01.2022 Our Bushcare team just took delivery of a very special gift. Bunnings Warehouse Australia, Narrabeen branch have come up trumps and donated an incredible cache of goodies to help our Bush Care students continue their good work! We can't express how much we appreciate the generosity of community partners like this. Your support for our school community helps us keep amazing initiatives like this going and truly enables our hardworking and enthusiastic students to make a difference to our green spaces. Time to get to work!
14.01.2022 We all know that the Science Faculty engage students in some really innovative ways of learning. But this example of fabulous work from our young Year 8 scientists is certainly cause for cell-ebration! These students have been working hard to produce these cell models as part of their assessment and we think their hard work and effort is shining through. Well done Year 8 Science.
13.01.2022 Another great report from another great Year 10 work experience project! Sean M was given a fabulous work experience with Sherocon, a building and project management company. During his time with them Sean was given the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the business from project management, through to plans and specifications and budgets.... The feedback we got from Sherocon was outstanding and we are really proud each time we get this kind of feedback about one of our students. Great to see our Narrabeen Sports High School values being put into practice in the real world! Well done Sean...
13.01.2022 Lifeline Northern Beaches is having a Spring Childrens Book Clearance on September 26-27 in the driveway of their depot at 18 Roger Street, Brookvale. All children's books will be priced at $1 or less. As well as books for babies and toddlers, there will also be a selection of books for older children and activity books to get younger children started on their reading journey. Whilst childrens boxes will occupy half the table space, Lifeline will also have some Non-fiction ...books for adults on sale too. Who doesn't need a good book to read in the school holidays!
13.01.2022 Another proud moment for teacher Mr Moore as he presents a Duke Of Edinburgh Silver award to a student. This time the hard working recipient is Year 12 student Tom Ironside who completed a number of very involved activities to attain his Silver. As well as volunteering at a youth group, Tom selected cookery as his 'Skill' section, and went on to produce some very impressive dishes!... He completed expeditions to Turon and Yengo National Parks and set some very strict physical recreation goals for his chosen sport of AFL. We are all very proud of Tom's achievement. Anyone who has ever been involved in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme will have a full appreciation of the level of commitment needed to reach Silver. And what is Tom doing now? He's going for Gold of course!
12.01.2022 The final countdown - Day Three... The weather has turned on a show for the Year 12's final week celebrations. This morning's breakfast, made by TAS staff, was enjoyed by the whole year group and quite a few teachers too! This final week is bittersweet for students and teachers alike but the Hawaiian shirt theme went a long way to brightening up breakfast!... This group of year 12 students is quite unique. We have been so proud of the resilience, strength and determination this cohort has demonstrated through all the challenges this year has delivered. Enjoy T minus two Year 12!
12.01.2022 It's another moment where we've had to do things a little differently! Normally our Year 12 Biologists would have undertaken their genetics depth study in the wet labs at Macquarie University. As this was not possible this year, we were delighted to welcome Macquarie University scientist Jessica O into our school this week. Jessica worked with our students on experiments necessary for DNA barcoding and a virtual follow up session today, direct from the wet labs at Macquarie ...University, allowed students the opportunity to analyse the results and speak to genetic researchers at the University. Thanks to both the teachers in our own Faculty of Science and the scientists in the Department of Biological Sciences at Macquarie. Your efforts were so appreciated by our new Year 12 students.
12.01.2022 Our History Detective Elective class has just completed an investigation into a technology, personality or event that changed the Ancient World. Their investigations were impressive, ranging from the development of music, art and democracy right through to the beginnings of the Olympic games and the development of weapons. Students were able to present their research in a manner which best showcased their investigation and we were really impressed by the replica prehistoric ...arrow designed and produced by students Flynn and Jack. Using ancient technologies to cast their own arrow head using a hand made mould, the boys also made their own glue from boiled down tree sap to attach the fletching feathers to the arrow. We were so impressed by some of the projects and investigations; a stark reminder that who we are and what we have today is just the sum of what came before us.
11.01.2022 Neighbours by chance, friends by choice! This sums up the relationship we have with one of our nearest neighbours, Narrabeen North Primary School. We were delighted to be invited over to see the amazing Science projects that their students have been working on this term. This is the culmination of a collaboration between the Faculty of Science at our own school and the wonderful teachers at Narrabeen North Primary. And while these pictures may give you a taste of some of the... fabulous projects our teachers were lucky enough to see, we are particularly proud of the groundwork that is being laid to help give these primary students a smooth transition into high school. Not only do these students get to know and work with our own teachers, the collaboration between the teachers across our two schools is creating a seamless flow of learning. Now thats what we call good Science!
11.01.2022 As our beautiful Year 12 students continue their countdown to their last day, we thought we'd share a few of the major work submissions from our Visual Art students. Each of these students have worked incredibly hard both at home in Term Two and back at school to produce these pieces. We are so proud of their work ethic, their commitment to learning and most especially, of the work they have produced. Well done Year 12 Visual Art students!

10.01.2022 The energy in our Academy Cheer training sessions is electrifying! The squad is training hard for a series of upcoming video competitions and we wanted to share a behind the scenes practice with you. We will bring you the finished, polished product in Term 4. More than any other Academy group, this team has to perform as a cohesive whole and trust is at the centre of every session. ... It is amazing to watch their talented coaches nurture and develop that trust. So much thought goes in to every exercise. We cant wait to see the finished product!
09.01.2022 Year 9 Woodwork have shown us that they know a thing or two about workmanship. Tasked with designing, drawing, building and finishing a step stool, students were given the additional challenge of trying to do this without using nails or screws! Haylee P, Allegra R, Will G and Damian B are to be commended on their efforts. Not a nail or screw in sight.... Ticking all the boxes!
08.01.2022 The Narrabeen Sports High School's P&C car boot sale has become a bit of an institution. Although the car boot sale went ahead in term one, we were unable to proceed with business as usual in terms two and three due to restrictions. Now we are delighted to announce that the term four car boot sale will go ahead on Sunday 29 November; just in time for Christmas shopping bargains!... We always appreciate the efforts of our incredible P&C members, but organising this term's car boot sale has certainly been an effort of epic proportions. Having a Covid Safety Plan approved by NSW Health and registering as a Covid Safe Business takes time! There will be plenty of Christmas bargains to be had and we will continue to bring you more details as we approach the big day. Thank you for organising this P&C!
08.01.2022 Ever wondered what it's like behind the scenes just before we go live on our MADD showcase event? Practice continues unabated; each of these students have worked so hard to deliver a performance they can be proud of. Students have been appearing at the various performance venues across the school all day for those last minute tweaks to their piece. Instruments are tuned and primed, just awaiting the musicians... Teachers and staff have moved furniture, run cables, done lighting. It really has been all hands on deck! We can't wait to begin the performance. Thanks to all of those who have already purchased their tickets.
08.01.2022 We are bursting with pride for outgoing Year 12 student Georgia G who won the "Outstanding Dance Film" award as part of the Short Sharp Dance competition. Georgia has already received an early entry offer to do a Bachelors degree, working towards becoming a Drama teacher. But as a result of her incredible submission to this prestigious competition, Georgia has now also received an offer to study at AFTRS (Australian Film, Television and Radio School)!... A heartfelt congratulations to you Georgia - we are so proud of your achievement.
08.01.2022 This is one high energy Boxing class! These students showed that they are made of tough stuff during this high energy class. Their coach was certainly putting them through their paces, but everyone in this class was up to the challenge.
08.01.2022 We hope all our Fathers are beginning the week feeling pampered and relaxed after yesterday's big day! Thank you Dads for all the love and support you give our students every single day.
08.01.2022 Some of our Year 10 students have started work experience and we are really enjoying seeing them on the job as they send through photos of their work! Lily F was lucky enough to get work experience with BOS Oceansport and she is learning how to build surf skis. So far we are getting really positive feedback from not only our students, but also from the organisations who have given students these exciting work experience opportunities. ... Great to see Narrabeen Sports High School students being embraced by our great Northern Beaches community.
08.01.2022 It can definitely be useful to have in house experts. Three of our Year 12 Construction students get some practical, hands on experience in our own back yard. They are laying a concrete slab at our school gate under the watchful eye of Mr Ashby. Some good learning on the job experience!
07.01.2022 It seems odd in the middle of Term 4 to be thinking about purchasing uniforms for Term 1 2021! But each year, there can be lengthy queues as everyone rushes to buy new uniform items at the same time. This year, parents can purchase uniform items from our online uniform shop instead. Registration for the shop is quick and easy.... http://bit.ly/3k2Z234
07.01.2022 Narrabeen Sports High School is well known for its amazing results in the sporting arena. But it's been interesting to have a look at what has been going on behind the scenes at the Sports Academy during these times of embargo on sporting tournaments. If you imagine the lack of tournaments at the moment has made our coaches ease up on students at the Academy, you'd be mistaken! Training at each of the Academy sports is full steam ahead, and all of our students are working har...d to make sure they are match fit from the moment competitions and tournaments open up again. Academy coach Matt Barton has been putting tennis students through their paces this week and it was incredible to watch these talented players train together. Matt himself is no stranger to the International circuit and has played at Wimbledon and the US Open. Good to know our Academy tennis students are in good hands with Collaroy Tennis Club- Evolve Tennis!
07.01.2022 What a difference a day makes! Our nearest neighbours from Narrabeen North Primary School joined in on a science lesson in the high school school labs. Ms Fuchs from the primary school and Mr McDonald, our own Head of Science, led some really exciting experiments creating seismographs in the lab. All helped along by Deputy Principal Ms Phillips.... This was a great opportunity for the Year 6 students to not only consolidate all their learning about earthquakes, it was also a good chance to further break down the barriers between high school and primary school. Such a great pleasure to host our young neighbours!
05.01.2022 Today on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day on the eleventh month, we all commemorate Remembrance Day. 102 years on from the moment the guns fell silent, we honour all Australian fallen men and women across all battles. In particular, we remember the men and women from Narrabeen who served. Lest We Forget.
04.01.2022 The NSW Department of Education rejects all forms of racism and is committed to the elimination of racial discrimination. Each school is required to have an Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO) to help the Department realise this aim. The ARCO information for parents has just been updated. Translations in 35 languages are now available at:... https://education.nsw.gov.au//translated-documents//anti-r
04.01.2022 Michael Jordan once claimed that "Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships". While we understand that Michael Jordan may have had basketball in mind when he gave this great insight, we are fairly sure he wouldn't mind it also being applied to the great sport of netball! Teamwork and intelligence are so evident at the training sessions for Academy Netball. It has been such a pleasure watching this group of girls train this week; their commitment to ea...ch other, to their coaches and to their teacher Ms Lynch is on display every moment of every training session. At Narrabeen Sports High School, we are reminded every day that the power of sport extends beyond the netball court, the playing field or the dance studio. We see the resilience, responsibility and teamwork that our coaches work so hard to instill in students during training sessions play out in the classroom and on the playground. Every day. Go Team Narrabeen!
04.01.2022 Parents and students are invited to register for the free 2020 Virtual Northern Beaches Careers Expo. The expo takes place online and offers a unique opportunity for students and parents to interact with exhibitors. Universities, private colleges and employment opportunities from across the region, this expo presents a wonderful opportunity to get the information you need.
03.01.2022 If it's true that every gift from a friend is a wish for your happiness, then Narrabeen Sports High School has just had a whole lot of happiness wished upon us! We received a surprise package from our friends at Tokushima Bunri High School in Japan and some of our student representatives couldn't wait to see what was inside. Such lovely gifts, but we particularly appreciated the handwritten letters from each individual student. Since all the letters were in English, we can on...ly imagine the time that went into sending this thoughtful gift. Gestures like this remind us that while our friends can't always be close to us in these times, they can certainly be close in spirit. Thanks you Tokushima Bunri High School.
02.01.2022 On Friday September 11 we will be holding our 2020 High Potential and Gifted Challenge Day for Year 7. 02.01.2022 The Aspirations class is zinging with energy and creativity! Forming part of our High Potential Gifted and Talented education program here at Narrabeen Sports High school, this class was given the task of looking at a variety of already existing mobility products and modifying them to make products fit for 21st Century living. These students have taken existing problems and products and through collaboration and creative problem solving, have started to brainstorm some really... clever modifications. At the end of Term 4, students will have the chance to present their 'new' product to a Shark Tank style panel of judges. We can't wait to see what these creative thinkers come up with!
01.01.2022 Our new Year 12 Science Extension students had some really special visitors. Four Academics from Macquarie University came to our school and took part in an Academic Panel and Workshop day. The workshop covered the scientific research process and methodologies. Research proposals, report writing skills and data analysis tools were also covered during the day's workshop. ... Thank you to Josh, Adam, Bonnie and Isra for the incredible insights you gave our students; think we have some future scientists in the making!
