24.01.2022 My biggest class yet, thanks for the snap @shornhutton i might have even been a bit nervous talking about rock art in front of all these eager ears. The Kimberley is the largest living art gallery, spanning over 423,500sq kms, no one knows exactly how many rock art sites there are, several thousand have been recorded already, and there are estimated to be tens of thousands more. You really have to take a step back and appreciate being in the presence of some of this rock art which dates back to initial occupation, during the time of Neanderthals, before wooly mammoths go extinct, and even older than the first Egyptian pyramids. The mind boggles #mindboggles #appreciate #art #rockart #bigclassroom #nervous
23.01.2022 So nice to see people care about wildlife, this sub-adult Osprey took its first flight from high up in the nest and hit the deck, it couldn’t fly and was weak, Steve and the team at Arrows pearling base, made a temporary osprey nest and managed to feed it every 1 1/2 hours for a few days to get its energy back, hoping the parents would come down and feed it. To the staffs delight it took off and has now re-united with its parents. They have 3 generations of Ospreys living at the pearling base so were over the moon to see this one survive, onyah guys @arrowpearlingbase
22.01.2022 I did this last year, an awesome experience, and such lovey crew, made some great friends out of it too.

21.01.2022 Last few weeks of work at the Rowley Shoals, had bliss weather, and magic conditions, what an amazing place. #bestjobever #rowleyshoals #marinelife #oceanlife @ Rowley Shoals Marine Park
21.01.2022 Rowley shoals fun #rowleyshoals #marinelife video by @chris.mirbach he has a way better breath hold than me.
20.01.2022 Mucking around with some fat bungarrows at the Montebello islands, the only major land based predator for the marine turtles on the islands, as the ferals (Cats... and rats) have been eradicated. So they have some full bellies at the moment as there are plenty of hatchling turtles and eggs to feast on. See more
16.01.2022 Nice challenge to draw a saltwater crocodile for @salty_sessions, not the easiest animal to draw, the teeth are from my favourite crocodile named Holey, i collected a few when i used to clean his pond out at @currumbinsanctuary. I used to be a zookeeper. #crocodile #croc #crocsrule #crocodiledrawing #crocodiles #crocodileart #nature #wildlifeart #wildlifeartist #broomeartist @ Broome, Western Australia
16.01.2022 The future of a critically endangered frog species could be in the hands of #Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Breeding the amphibians in captivity for the first time, here are their results. #9News | Weeknights at 5.30pm
14.01.2022 Was really cool to head out and help catch some big adult flatback seaturtles with these guys this week, and deploy cameras which are attached to the carapace (topof the turtle) using a suctions cups which pop off after about 1-2 days. This is find out what the turtles are eating and small scale movement pattens around roebuck bay. Check out the video to learn a bit more about Jenna’s, and the North west shelf research project.

11.01.2022 Not a bad 3 weeks at work! lots of mantas, crocs, and snakes about. And the sunsets a smokey haze with dry season fires in full swing.
09.01.2022 AWC's ground-breaking partnership with Bullo River Station is delivering conservation benefits alongside a commercial cattle operation. We hear from owner, Jul...ian Burt, and get an update from AWC Wildlife Ecologist Dr Eridani Mulder, who is on the ground conducting surveys there. Don't forget to join us next week, when we speak with Wendy Harmer - journalist, comedian, author, producer, and co-host of ABC Sydney’s breakfast program - about her recent visit to our Scotia Wildlife Sanctuary. 08.01.2022 Great Job for anyone who wants to live in the rainforest in Currumbin Valley, and contribute to conservation. http://careers.nationaltrustqld.org.au//in/austra/8168840/
07.01.2022 Thanks heaps to Marion Hill and Vivienne Naomi for helping me get this off the ground, i can do the art, but not real technical or business savvy. Heaps of peop...le where asking for images, so to help me still have a life, as this is just a side hustle from my real work as a Naturalist, i’ve made some prints of some originals. Really cool as the prints are 60% hemp, so eco-friendly paper too. Get amongst it, and give us some feed back. https://nathillwildlifeart.com.au/collections/frontpage See more
06.01.2022 Not many people get excited about dead things, but as someone who is curious about the natural world my froth levels where high when we came across this dead whale off Scott reef. Thanks to a few whale experts at different organisations including DBCA’s parks and wildlife cetacean gurus, we where able to get a fairly good confirmation on the identification of this dead whale. There are several species that pass through these remote islands off the north west coast. Based on t...he size of True North, being 50m, and the tiger sharks at least 3-5m it looked to be a Pygmy blue whale which can reach up to 24m. Scott and seringapatam reef are part of the migration path of pygmy blue whales as they head north into the banda sea in Indo to calve. See if you can spot the shark coming out of the mouth of the whale. The drone footage is taken by @jacksonhowson #pygmybluewhale #whale #sharks #tigersharks #ceteaceans #scottreef #northwest #whales #epic #nature #sharkfeeding See more
05.01.2022 The one time when you can walk through some mangroves in water and not think about crocs . About 20 stingrays and 3 different species.
04.01.2022 Great opportunity for anyone in Broome over the wet season.
04.01.2022 Back to work! Not complaining when your job is the Naturalist on True North and you get to educate people on the amazing marine environment we have in the North west kimberley. Next stop Scott and Seringapatam reef, then the Rowley shoals! vid by @shornhutton #rowleyshoals #australiasnorthwest #naturelovers #nature #oceanlife #oceanlover #thekimberleyaustralia #thekimberley #marinelife #scottreef #seringapatam #snorkeling #wa #westisbest
03.01.2022 Not a bad way to send my break #notbad @ The Kimberley, Western Australia
03.01.2022 Sea snakes are one of my favourites. Although highly venomous, they tend to go on their activities unfazed by observers. Sometimes curious but gentle creatures. These images are from Scott and seringapatam reef. It was really neat to see my guests gain an appreciation for sea snakes rather than want to jump back in the boat when they see one. These reefs have about 17 different species. And some only live out there, they don’t migrate large distances and they are vulnerable t...o changes in the environment, comparing them to the canaries in the colmine but for our marine environments. Researchers are still finding out so much interesting information about them even that they have these vibration sensors on their scales, they can dive to 70m, and they can absorb up to 25% of oxygen through their skin. Big thanks to @seasnakeblanche who has helped me work out some of the identifications of sea snakes. And if you want to learn more about them give her a follow. See more
