17.01.2022 Needing a gift for a heavy horse lover? BOOK REVIEW 2020 CCHS VIC BRANCH YEAR BOOK The publication of the CCHS Victorian Branch Year Book for 2020 has resulted in the possibility... that this year’s edition could be regarded as the best year book yet. Editor, Barb Ford and her Committee, are to be commended on producing a magnificent living history of the Victorian Branch for this year. The usual results from the Royal Melbourne Show 2019 and the Clydesdale & Heavy Horse Festival are included, along with many photographs of sectional winners the quality of which are exceptional. Fascinating stories, such as The Heyday of the Working Horse remind us of our past, as will the report on the history of the Wodonga Clydesdale sales. Informative articles, such as Mares and their Influence in Breeding and Denia Gilheany’s story on Assisted Reproductive Techniques are of great value. News of activities in other States, New Zealand & Scotland, provides fascinating reading. The overall quality of the publication is amazing. The 2020 Year Book is an absolute must for your library. AVAILABLE NOW SEE ORDER FORM ATTACHED. ORDER NOW IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS

10.01.2022 Notes by Anne Therese Courtney Horses - Story of the horse-age, Melbourne. The capacities of the horse created and constrained Melbourne's city growth, and for a century grounded its citizens' experience of time, space and the sensory. Where once the ubiquitous horse was king, it is now an anachronism. The sight of horse-drawn carriages conveying tourists or wedding parties through Central Melbourne streets, or the Clydesdale teams drawing brewery drays in historic re-enactme...Continue reading

09.01.2022 Heavy Horse Festival wrap up Our 2020 Festival was our biggest ever with lots of positive comments from the general public being:- 'the best show ever, beautiful horses, friendly atmosphere and being able to talk to the exhibitors and pat the horses'. We pride ourselves with our show being one of few that welcomes the general public to attend. We had sensational weather and the Werribee Park grounds staff did an amazing job of keeping the grass areas beautifully present...ed. We sincerely thank all the volunteers that helped and those that offered to help over the weekend when called for. We congratulate and thank all our exhibitors on both your professionalism and the quality of horses presented, we also thank our interstate exhibitors whom came from NSW & South Australia to support our show. Congratulations to all the winners. We sincerely thank our international judges Annette & Elaine. Both were very impressed with the quality of our horses which would equally be matched to any show horse in Scotland and/or the UK. Of course our sponsors and trade stall holders we thank you for your continued support providing the wonderful prizes for our exhibitors and donated goods for our Dinner Auction. We thank Dave once again for cooking up a storm, for his time and effort made of feeding 200 people at the Dinner Auction and also to the volunteers behind the scenes preparing and serving the food. We thank Andrew Lavis and Rod Kilgour with the commentary throughout the weekend which provides information for our non horsey visitors and keeps everyone up to date with all the activities. We are still finalizing the funds raised for the Dinner Auction. We remind those that still have outstanding payments for items purchased to please pay for them as soon as you can to enable us to present our donation to the Lions Club - Need for Feed. We thank those that donated to the Lions Club - Need for Feed in the donation tins. ***Important Note *** We plan to have a short break and reflect on our event. We do need more young helpers & volunteers to ensure the continuation our Festival, we need the following people with :- ** office & communication skills - pre & post event ** muscle power for ground set up -pre and post event Please register your interest - PM the page.

08.01.2022 The committee of the National Clydesdale & Heavy Horse Festival regret to advise our 2021 Festival has been cancelled. Unfortunately we are unable to secure a future date at the venue and with the strict Covid Safe Regulations still in place, to safely manage our event with our high number of spectators & exhibitors is beyond our capacity. Our priority is the safety of everyone attending our Festival. Even though we are extremely disappointed, we are delighted to say we will ...be back bigger and better than ever in 2022. Best wishes to everyone and stay covid safe! We look forward to seeing everyone again and your beautiful horses in 2022. Val Perkins NCHHF Event Secretary
