22.01.2022 Minis at the Mill 2020 LIVE event preparations at the National Motor Museum

22.01.2022 With Minis at the Mill 2020 on this Sunday 1st November, it's the perfect time to talk about one of the Museum's Minis. This Leyland Mini 1275 LS in "Hi-Ho Silver" was the very last Australian-made Mini off the production line. The 1275 LS was a "run out" version of the famous model, with special features such as a 1275cc engine, front 8.4" disc brakes, 12 inch wheels, sports instrument cluster, and three-spoke "Formula GT" steering wheel. Between 800 and 900 of this final edition were built between July and October 1978. In the 42 years since its construction, the Museum's 1275 LS has only covered 1.8 kilometres! 15.01.2022 Check out the latest episode from the Shannons Club series. The Overlander | DRIVEN | Ep 22 With telling signs of its tour of duty in Vietnam, it was the simplicity in design and function that attracted Gabrielle Presutto to purchase his 1959 Series II ex-Australian Army Land Rover. The pencil lines, the flat sheet metal panels and the limited features are a nod to the vehicle’s utilitarian nature, which today allows Gab to enjoy the best of both - urban and off road worlds. Shannons is a great sponsor and supporter of the National Motor Museum and the Bay to Birdwood

14.01.2022 Perhaps we should start referring to tomorrow (Sunday 15 Nov) as "Super Sunday"? The Walkerville All Cars Club will be the fourth club joining us on Sunday for a display in the picturesque museum grounds. It should be the perfect day to visit the museum, with displays by clubs including the BMW Driver's Club of South Australia, and QCar Southaustralia contributing to over 80 vehicles in our grounds. Club events such as these are the heart and soul of the automotive enthusiast community, with all club members and passengers provided free entry to the museum thanks to Shannons - share the passion and The Bay to Birdwood - one of the world's great historic motoring events. If you would like to book an event at the museum for your club, contact the museum on 08 8568 4000 or [email protected] now!

13.01.2022 A very happy 72nd birthday to "Number 1", unveiled on this day in 1948. She was - and still is - "a beauty".

11.01.2022 This weekend the museum plays host to the Service Park and Rally HQ of the 2020 AGI Sport Adelaide Hills Rally. Throughout Saturday and Sunday over 30 teams will be competing on the challenging unsealed roads of the Adelaide Hills, and the National Motor Museum will be the perfect place to get up close to competitors and their vehicles. The Service Park will be accessible from 10:00am each day with vehicles transiting throughout the duration of the event. For more information, check out the event page below!

09.01.2022 Yesterday's Australia Day awards featured two National Motor Museum related honours. The late Donald Chisholm was posthumously awarded an OAM for community services. Don was the General Manager of the original Birdwood Mill Museum. He managed the Museum from when the South Australian State Government acquired it in 1976 until it was placed into the hands of the newly formed History Trust of South Australia in 1982. A fitting tribute to Don and for his family. RIP Also, the Bay to Birdwood Advisory Committee member and Start Manager, Mr Mike Beresford, was awarded local honours by the City of West Torrens Council, in recognition of his ongoing work with the Bay to Birdwood with the event being named the Community Event of the Year .

08.01.2022 Recently, the museum was handed this inconspicuous looking little pocket booklet by another local museum. Inconspicuous it may be, but upon opening it, it reveals itself to be a treasure trove of information. Carried by an, as yet un-named, bodybuilder or panel beater, whoever they may be has beautifully illustrated, in cross-section, various little facets of motor bodybuilding, small detailed fixtures, like how to fit the belt mouldings back to a 1935 Chevrolet Master, etc. ...all in finely illustrated detail. Even the workshop manuals of the era, which were all thoroughly illustrated and documented, didn't go into this much detail. You might well have been expected to fix your own engine, but you weren't expected to build your own body. This, along with many other items, has been added to the George Brooks Library and Learning Centre's collection

07.01.2022 Perfect weather to welcome the HK - HT - HG Owners Car Club of S.A Inc for their October cruise!

05.01.2022 This weekend the museum will host the Service Park for the AGI Sport Adelaide Hills Rally. Some of South Australia's most impressive rally cars will battle it out on the challenging roads of the Adelaide Hills this weekend (17th and 18th October), so Saturday and Sunday is the ideal opportunity to get up close and personal with both cars and teams in the Service Park!

04.01.2022 The National Motor Museum would like to congratulate Mr Don Loffler on his award, yesterday. Don was awarded the Lifetime Historian Award by the History Council of South Australia. Don's accomplishments include 7 published books, on Holden, with three more in the pipeline. He also conducts our wonderfully successful Holden Heritage Bus Tours (yesterday's being our 9th such tour) along with fellow Holden historian Stewart Underwood. Well done Don, long may you continue.
