21.01.2022 Most people go to their Dentist for regular check-ups to see if they need fillings and get a scale and clean, the same goes for your Dentures. It's a good idea to visit your local Dental Prosthetist and have your dentures checked for wear or damage and fit, as well as the underlying gums and ridges. Loose dentures can cause damage to the soft tissue and bone under your denture, so don't leave it too long before you get a denture check-up. 20.01.2022 Happy New Year everyone. If your New Year's Resolution is to get healthy or lose weight you should get your dentures checked and replace any missing teeth. It is very important to replace missing teeth for several reasons:... 1. Appearance 2. Mastication or chewing ability 3. Support of remaining teeth 4. Support of an opposing full denture Without complete dentition, you may not be able to effectively masticate (eat) your food. Mastication, as opposed to biting and swallowing, involves mixing enough saliva with your food so that you adequately dilute your gastric juices, thereby reducing the risk of digestive problems. Weight loss and staying healthy requires good mastication. We hope to see you soon.

20.01.2022 Just a hint when cleaning dentures. Don't use toothpaste, it is way too abrasive and will wear the plastic away which in turn can effect the fit an cause it to become loose. Maybe resulting in a premature reline.

17.01.2022 I trust everyone has recovered from their well earned break (those who are back at work). Whilst having a few days off I was asked what I did for a living and when I said Dental Prosthetist a few people did not know what that was. A Dental Prosthetist is a person that has been working as a dental technician for a number of years and is highly skilled in the manufacture of full and partial dentures. This person then undergoes a further couple of years training to allow them to take impressions of the mouth, fabricate and insert dentures without consultation from a dentist. We can also reline and repair dentures and make mouthguards. So there you go, if you need advice on dentures come and see us first. It's what we do!!

15.01.2022 Every now and again dentures break. When this happens you need to have it professionally repaired by a qualified dental prosthetist as if it does not go back in the correct position it can damage the denture even more. If you do need to use superglue make sure the pieces go together perfectly, check this several times, then clean and dry the pieces and apply a "TINY " amount to one surface and hold them together till set. Don't get any on your fingers.!! This should see you through till you can get it professionally repaired.

14.01.2022 How to care for your dentures Dentures must be cleaned after every meal. They are no different to having your own teeth as they can attract plaque which when left for longer than 72 hours will harden and become calculus. Calculus cannot be removed by brushing or any other at home procedures. If left uncleaned, your dentures may discolour, have an unpleasant odour and need to be cleaned professionally. You should rinse your mouth out after every meal to prevent food particles ...becoming trapped under your dentures and causing a sore-spot. At least once a day, you should use a soft brush in your mouth on those areas that are covered by the dentures e.g. your palate Never use tooth paste as it is abrasive and will wear the plastic prematurely. Dentures need to be regularly checked every 12 months. If you have partial dentures you also need to brush your remaining natural teeth and clean your dentures after every meal.

06.01.2022 What are Immediate Dentures? You may have heard of Immediate Dentures but not know exactly what they are. Immediate Dentures are custom made for the patient with the difference being the denture is inserted immediately after remaining natural teeth have been extracted. Hence the name Immediate.... The Immediate denture acts as a bandage to help prevent swelling and bleeding. Usually these dentures should be replaced after approximately 18 months to two years after the bone has stopped resorbing. This way a more aesthetically pleasing denture can be fabricated.
