20.01.2022 How are we all doing? So much has been happening huh! I've been trying to make a post on the topic of mental health now for days but my dead zone internet just ...wouldn't have it. Obviously many of us in this area have been hit with the effects from last week's storm. Power out etc. I don't know about you...but for me 3 days by myself in the cold,dark,no phone or internet was equivalent to 3 months lockdown last year. Well...maybe. So this is my point...stress is accumulative. It doesn't just grab you over night..true stress..is that feeling of one thing after another after another etc until yes it's the smallest thing that breaks you. And yes even I..whom some of you refer to me jokingly as,the Zen master...hath fallen to this breakdown of stress recently. There's so many things to say on this topic but I guess I just wanted to say..that all of your feelings are valid.. whether you lost power or didn't,whether U lost work or didn't,I think the stress has accumulated now to epic proportions within our society/community, everyone I speak to is suffering. It's just been one disaster after another. So what do we do? Firstly,know that your feelings and situations are important to you so don't lie to yourselves pretending you're ok if you're not..allow yourselves to nurture and give space to you Being overly positive is just a defence sometimes. Secondly,don't be afraid to speak up,ask for help. No man is a mountain. Thirdly,try not to allow yourself to get bogged down in the negative..allowing your feelings isn't negative by the way..it's simply honouring yourself. It is not honouring yourself to be overly optimistic all the time in a fake way,nor is it real. But talking doomsday etc constantly,rehashing traumatic events is helpful only to a point before it quickly becomes problematic with long term effects. Balance in all things.
