21.01.2022 To the Kinder families for Monday 7th December. School Week. We invite children to bring their lunch box and drink bottle from Monday the 7th December to Friday 11th December. ... What to include: A morning tea snack (for example cheese, crackers, musili bar). A sandwich or equivalent for lunch. (No nuts please). We will still provide fruit in the morning and afternoon tea. It is not compulsory so if you choose not to bring one or forget we will still provide lunch. It’s a nice fun way to celebrate school and it’s good practice for the children to practice pacing themselves and not eating it all at once. Feel free to wear your school hat, school t shirt if you have one already - although some people like to keep them for the first day. Again this is optional. We will begin the day outside and come in at 8.45 to start our school timetable. We will talk about transitioning to school, the feelings we may be experiencing and how school may be different to Natural Wonders. Thanks and see you all next week. Amy

21.01.2022 Rainbow of Unicorns At Natural Wonders, we are holding some fundraising during September. One of our small friends is currently receiving treatment for a childhood cancer. Our 1st fundraiser that we hope you would consider donating to is our Rainbow of Unicorns.... We will be having a Rainbow of unicorns on display in the kinder room /entrance area, walk way to 2-4 room. Also sent via Email for our families not currently attending and shared here to our wider community of supporters. We are asking if each family would like to purchase a unicorn for the rainbow. Our aim is 100 purchased unicorns to be put on the rainbow. Unicorns will be $10 so we are aiming for $1000. But we’d love more obviously. Whatever we make will be divided between the family for a well-deserved break when treatment is finished (and Covid safe to travel) And the Royal Children’s hospital as September is childhood cancer awareness month and this is where our little friend is currently receiving treatment There will be some gifts as prizes (Kindly donated by some of our suppliers) Unicorns will be available at the centre or via email this week. Cash payments/Eftpos or pay to the same account as fees (but separately please - name and unicorn as reference) Please PM or ring the centre if you are not a current family wanting to make a donation Thank you all, lets fill up our rainbow. Pictured is our rainbow after one day

20.01.2022 Kinder video meetings & catch ups. This week in our kinder video conference catch ups we have talked about spring and the changes we are noticing in our parks and gardens with the arrival of the new season. The most important aspect of our video meetings is to just connect with one another. The most important thing about kinder is the social and emotional learning and how to connect with your peers and become a member of a learning community. So just getting together and ...seeing each other and having a conversation is the main aim of these meetings. Today our discussions included chickens and egg laying and one of our children showed us a duck egg that her ducks have laid. She showed us in video meeting how much bigger a duck egg is than a chicken egg. We learnt about what chickens eat. We talked about whether or not bees eat honey or do they make honey? One of the children made us laugh when he showed us the noises you can create with the microphone on his headset. Another child showed us the beautiful blossoms on the tree in her families garden. This afternoons group enjoyed sharing their toys with each other and showing each other what they like playing with. We read one of our regular favourite books "Boo to a Goose" and we sang some songs together. I showed the kinder children the marble runs that my family have been building at home with the wooden kinder marble run and.... amazingly it turned out that Joel and his family were also building a marble run today. So this video is the big golf ball marble run that Joel built. I am grateful we have this technology to keep us together at the moment and say hello, have a laugh, connect with one another and share what is happening in our homes. We really miss you all.

20.01.2022 Update on road works on Hull rd from next week

20.01.2022 Debbie and the Kinder children picked fresh veggies from the garden for our lunch today . Gardening with children provides sensory development as it engages each sense. Along with teaching patience and responsibility, encourages healthy eating as they have grown the veggies together as well as connecting children to nature and the land. 19.01.2022 Cooking on the fire Friday 18th September. After our two small mini fires in the metal bowls, today we moved up to a slightly larger fire in the ground. ... We used our new fire steel to light the fire. We bought the fire steel because it is a safe way for children to light the fire (with necessary supervision of course). The fire steel builds fine motor and gross motor skills as it requires the use of both hands and coordination to hit the blade onto the steel at just the right angle. It also needs to be hit at just the right angle to create the spark, so children have to persist with the task until they succeed. Henry did a great job and he got a spark on about the third strike ! Today we cooked our own afternoon tea on the fire. We cooked toast and baked beans in the billy. A great way to end the term by taking our cooking experiences outside. Next, we plan to cook sausages and bananas in foil with a little bit of chocolate maybe.

11.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day to all the dads of Natural Wonders - hope you all enjoy some special time today.

11.01.2022 NAIDOC week 2020 in the kinder room. NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. It is a week where we celebrate the achievements and culture and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We aim to embed Aboriginal culture into our programs. This means we don’t just wheel out Aboriginal resources during this special week. Rather we weave aspects of Aboriginal culture into our daily program with Aboriginal books in our book... collection, songs in our song book and Woi Wurrung language (the language spoken by the Wurundjeri people) spoken on a daily basis. Each day we say an ‘Acknowledgment to Country’ and acknowledge Wurundjeri people. This year we built on our knowledge by watching the specially produced Playschool episode ‘Acknowledgement to Country’. I think it is a perfect way to teach children about Aboriginal culture and our country, in a contemporary and child friendly way. If you have a spare 27 mins (when we aren’t out and about 25kms from our home this weekend) and would like to watch it with your child you can find it in ABC iview. It’s a great way for adults to build your knowledge while enjoying quality screen time together. Acknowledgement of Country in iview https://iview.abc.net.au//play-school-acknowledgement-of-c This drawing is the map we drew and discussed the different language groups of Aboriginal people.
