25.01.2022 Run run as fast as you can! The big bad troll is coming! What fun we had on our walk today pretending to be Billy Goats and Trolls.... Imaginative play allows children to operate a head taller than themselves... In an imaginative game children can suddenly, compromise, plan, empathize, regulate emotions, navigate rough terrain, and verbalise thoughts/ideas all at once! Nine times out of ten I am sure the answer would be to fly through the trees on a zip line How do I know this? Spend enough time really listening to children and an underlying chorus of adventurous, thrill seeking ideas will come through loud and clear The excitement, risk, strength, thrill and exhilaration they experience from pushing off a tree branch into th...e air cannot be replicated. It is an experience so unique and fun it will stay with the children forever. I had so much fun bringing this childhood dream to life for the children at wild camp. Watching the satisfaction and happiness on their faces gave me the strength I needed to lift them and retrieve the handles for sooooo many "just one more go" Zip line play seemed to be the highlight of the day! A very hard title to achieve next to - raft building, sailing, frying Langos (Hungarian Bread) on the fire, roasting pop corn, eating rice out of paper bark, catching and releasing baby fish, whittling/sawing bows and arrows and venturing across the creek into new territory - oh and rescuing a sock! You don't have to live in Bellingen to enrol - we will be visiting various bush locations in and around Repton, Gleniffer, Bellingen and Kalang. Our week at Camp Creative was full of loose parts and the feedback we received was so overwhelmingly positive! Apparently the children had the best day EVER everyday!!! I was in awe and so inspired by their ideas that I didn’t want the day to end! If only schools valued play as much as children do! For them it is as important as breathing! 09.01.2022 Wild Camp 2019 Day one of our summer wild camp was so fun and adventurous! We enjoyed the river all day, rafting, swimming, rapid riding, fishing and floating The slackline and zip line afforded us lots of opportunities to challenge our climbing and balance skills. We are always so pleasantly surprised by the strength and determination of the wildlings at wild camp! The forest was full of laughter and shouts of joy, especially when the wildlings caught an eel with ...their fishing rod! Twice! When it took our tiny net that was even more surprising! It was sooo big!!! So many animated stories will be told about that event!! "Cool" The children gained so much from their shared discovery, their joy and excitement was so inspiring. We are very lucky we could give them the time they needed to experience the adventure of the hidden tree fort...... 03.01.2022 Term 3 - Beetle Buddies 9 weeks of nature play at the beach has provided the children with so many possibilities for play, learning, connection and exploration. We have enjoyed the different landscape - especially the sand dunes and banksia trees,and have made the most of what this space has to offer! The Bundageree Rainforest walk is so rewarding - the children know the twists and turns in the track and are spurred on by a desire to reach our destination ...- the magical rainforest! When we finally arrive we all pause under the canopy of palms for morning tea and pretend we are in the tropics ;) Our story time and connective activities have all been well received - we have made potions with Possum Magic, Frogs with the Rain forest Book, a Map of Australia with native fauna and floated stick boats in the waves! The lino slide is the most thrilling ride and has become our favourite thing to do at Beetle Buddies! We will miss this coastal wonderland and thank the land for all the adventures and knowledge it has shared with us over the past 9 weeks! Next week we will finish the term with a shared meal and hopefully a swim in the ocean with the whales Bellingen Urunga, New South Wales
