13.01.2022 More areas of Namadgi National Park are now open and ready to be explored! We have been working hard to make Corin and Naas/Boboyan Road precincts in Nama...dgi safe for visitors to return once more. This has included clearing and repairing walking tracks, roads and other visitor infrastructure. As part of this reopening, you can now visit Square Rock, Gibraltar Falls, Woods Reserve, Mt Clear, Hospital Hill, Horse Gully Hut and more. Fire has changed the landscape in Namadgi and it is important to remember that many of these areas are fire-impacted. Make sure to plan your visit carefully and check which areas are open before heading out. Namadgi Visitor Information Centre, Orroral Valley, Honeysuckle and Bimberi Wilderness precincts remain closed. More information at www.environment.act.gov.au/namadgi-national-park

10.01.2022 What on earth is a tin dog and how do I get my hands on one? A tin dog is used by farmers to shift mobs of livestock when they dont have a dog of the four-legged kind. Join ACT Historic Places and Floriade this Sunday to make your own handy tin dog. Using a hammer and a nail, kids will make a central hole and creative designs in specially cut metal discs. The discs are then threaded onto a looped piece of wire. When kids shake the wire loop, the metal discs rattle and its this tin dog that helped farmers herd sheep and cattle!
