16.01.2022 Old Versus New. . Creating a new outdoor living space doesnt always mean you have to start from scratch. . This garden already had a sunken area, with old dilapidated brick retaining, an unused inbuilt bbq and existing rock work (swipe for before shot). ... . Rather than reinvent the wheel, the brick retaining was freshened up with a lick of paint and revised to include a spotted gum bench seat. . 13.01.2022 SUMMER With the first 40 degree day here in Perth today, it feels like it has well and truly begun! As the temperature rises, shade becomes even more important and there are some great ways to add some to your outdoor living space. ... Established trees are the clear winner here, but if you're starting from scratch, a shade structure really can work wonders and be as simple, or ornate as required. I was lucky enough to picnic on this gorgeous shaded rooftop recently, designed to complement a stunning solar passive home by @richard_hammond_architect.

There's no denying that succulents are becoming ever more popular in our outdoor living spaces and Agave attenuata, aka the Century plant is a classic! This water-wise species originates from the plateaus of Mexico and features in many Perth gardens. Its rosettes of blue green foliage and sculptural form is a real feature, which can work in a wide range of plant palletes. ... If you prefer something a bit different, don't forget that there are 200 recognised species of Agaves alone, with the list of available options in Perth rapidly growing.

Having an ergonomic workstation, making a cuppa, doing some stretches and getting some fresh air are all vital, especially if you want to avoid costly Chiro visits, (trust me Ive been there). ... . Using a timer as a reminder to get up and give your body and mind a moment to reset, can be a great way to keep track of this as well. . You may not be as lucky as me and be in self isolation with your very own Personal Trainer, (I should be in pretty good shape post Covid-19) but did you know that gardening can be a great workout as well? . Gardening can give you a full body workout and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), just one hour of light gardening can burn 330 calories! ... . 06.01.2022 What's your style? I wouldn't say I conform to one design style alone, as my design process and aesthetic is very much a client driven one. A lot of elements need to be considered when designing your garden, including the architecture of your home, your family and lifestyle needs, your wish list items and of course your budget. ... There's definitely no one size fits all when creating an outdoor living space that's tailored made for you!

06.01.2022 Small is beautiful. This was a topic I debated at high school many years ago and funnily enough, beautifying small spaces is something I now do on a regular basis! As you can see this unused corner has become a destination and includes a plunge pool, lush plantings to soften the huge parapet wall and a small poolside deck. ...
