25.01.2022 What have you got planned for dinner this week?! These are some of my current go to recipe books for healthy meals that dont require hours of prep in the kitchen! Anna Jones has some delicious vegetarian recipes in her cook books :)

23.01.2022 Wow this is exciting news for advanced breast cancer patients! Immunotherapy is a really clever way to get the patients own immune cells to destroy cancer cells and its so much less toxic than chemotherapy.

22.01.2022 MENTORING// At the moment I am preparing a case to present to my mentor. I take part in group mentoring once a month and have done so for a few years and will continue to do so into the future. I value the insights and opportunity to reflect and grow as a practitioner regardless of how many years I’ve been in practice. In the healthcare field knowledge and information increases exponentially each year. Mentoring is one way to keep up to date and continue to grow. #mentoring #herbalist #wollongong #bulli

22.01.2022 2020 // Only 3 weeks left until were in a new decade! I will be working until Wednesday 20th December, so let me know if you need anything by then. I will be away from the office from Monday 23rd December, returning to work Monday 20th January. Happy & safe holidays to everyone #herbalist #bulli #wellbeing #oceanpools #keepcoolthissummer

20.01.2022 I like the simplicity of this message. The keys to creating lasting happiness: exercise, meditation (start with 2 minutes!), being grateful (3 things each day), journaling & practicing random acts of kindness.

20.01.2022 An interesting read, especially following the ABC Four Corners program last Monday night. I think a balanced perspective is the best approach to choosing medicines, whether they be pharmaceutical or nutritional/ herbal. I do find turmeric a fantastic alternative to ibuprofen for supporting patients with pain and inflammation :)

19.01.2022 If you would like to sign the petition to the Government about their decision to cut health fund rebates for Natural Therapies from April 2019, please follow the link below. Its your health, your choice ...

16.01.2022 Less than a week until Christmas! I am working until Wednesday 21st December and then will be on holiday until Monday 9th January. Wishing you a happy and healthy Christmas :)

15.01.2022 Have you seen the magazine Breathe before? Its worth a read as is Teen Breathe for teenagers needing a break from their devices! #wellbeing #mindfulness #creativity #escaping

15.01.2022 Such wise new year words from the wonderful Petrea King: "turn your heart and mind toward the things that bring and increase your peace and contentment"

15.01.2022 Happy New Year everyone! The first day of the year is a lovely time to reflect on the previous year and set intentions for the coming year. If anyone is interested this meditation is available on Insight Timer and it’s an example of a lovely practice of setting intentions, but not necessarily resolutions, for a new year. If you do this meditation let me know what you think? I’m taking some time off from my clinic to fill up my cup, but will be back seeing patients later in the month #herbalist #wollongong #newyearintentions

14.01.2022 LAST WEEKEND // I made a trip up to Newcastle where I practiced as a Herbalist for 5 years, until 2002. I met wonderful Herbalists when I lived there & caught up with them on Saturday for a meeting about maintaining the traditions of Herbal Medicine practice. Weve started a group called Estuary Learning for supporting the ongoing education of traditional earth medicine. Stay tuned. #herbalmedicine #traditions #estuarylearning @ Newcastle, New South Wales

12.01.2022 PHONE & ON-LINE // From today all consultations will be either phone or on-line until we are through this very challenging time. Please note I can do short consultations if needed. If you require any herbs or supplements I can leave them out in the box by my front door for you to pick up when its convenient. Take care, practice kindness and stay well #covid-19 #challengingtimes #herbalmedicine #bulli #wollongong

11.01.2022 Blue Zones! What do Sardinia (Italy) pictured below, Okinawa (Japan), Nicola (Costa Rica), Icarian (Greece) and Loma Linda (California, US) have in common? Well they have been recognised by anthropologists as having the worlds longest lived people! I came across Dan Buettners book Blue Zones after a conference a few years ago and have been intrigued with what the lifestyles of people who live in these blue zones have in common: 1. Moderate, regular physical exercise 2. A li...fe purpose 3. Minimal stress: limited time pressure (!) 4. Moderate calorie intake 5. A plant based diet 6. Moderate alcohol intake (wine) 7. Engagement in spirituality or religion 8. Engagement in family life 9. Engagement in social life Food for thought I think youd agree!?

11.01.2022 SAFFRON // I have been researching Saffron for my latest Uni assignment and there have been a number of clinical trials showing efficacy for its use in depression. Many of them were conducted in Iran, one of the largest producers of Saffron in the world. Saffron also has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and neuro-protective qualities. A pretty impressive spice really! #herbpower

11.01.2022 Immune Health! Ive been meaning to write a post about immune health as winter is nearly with us. Rather than falling in a heap at this time of year, I recommend patients be proactive and think about how to boost their immune systems against the onslaught of viruses in winter. Apart from having adequate sleep, a healthy diet and reducing stress in your life, you can get good results by taking immune herbs such as Astragalus, Echinacea, Andrographis, Reishi & Shiitake mushrooms and Olive leaf plus with nutrients such as vitamin C, Zinc, Probiotics and vitamin D (in winter). Let me know if you need any help with your immune needs :)

10.01.2022 I Am Aromatics is a local hand crafted essential oil range developed by my lovely friend Melissa. Skin products such as the I am Ageing Gracefully Face Serum is one of my favourites! Melissa also offers aromatherapy consultations and custom orders. Highly recommended :)

10.01.2022 I am very excited to have collaborated with the lovely Melissa Gale from I Am Aromatics to launch the I Am Tranquil & Calm flower essence remedy

09.01.2022 I just spent the last 3 days up at the biannual Australian Naturopathic Summit in Lennox Head! Lots of food for thought, stimulating lectures and inspiring people. Plus I got to eat plenty of quinoa, wild rice, broccoli and drink chai!

08.01.2022 Living the long weekend dream by completing an assignment on potential herb-drug interactions! I hope youre enjoying your weekend too

08.01.2022 MOVING FORWARD!! // just a quick update that I am available for phone & Zoom consultations and will be moving back to face to face consultations when its appropriate. I have used this opportunity to update my clinic to a more digital platform and have found Telehealth a great option, especially during Covid & for people who dont live close to me. Lets hope its onwards and upwards for 2020, fingers crossed everyone! #herbalist #wollongong #movingforward

07.01.2022 A HUGE THANK YOU to the 13,323 of you who wrote to Minister Hunt and LNP MPs and Senators asking for natural therapy rebates to be restored. The announced $2 mi...llion updated review will re-examine which therapies should be eligible for Subsidy through the Private Health Insurance rebate - and also look at removing the banned, list so insurers can cover whichever therapies they want, even if not subsidised. This outcome is a direct result of YOUR actions - you have moved government! All major parties now recognise this is an important public issue that wont go away. While some might see this as just a means to neutralise angered voters prior to the upcoming election, it is an opportunity to have the evidence for natural therapies reviewed fairly and ethically. This time, almost 110,000 people who have signed up to the YHYC campaign will be watching closely over their shoulders to ensure the new reviews are done properly and free from hidden agendas. If you havent yet done so, please SIGN and SHARE www.yourhealthyourchoice.com.au to call for a Senate inquiry into bias towards natural therapies.

05.01.2022 KINDNESS & MEDITATION // I love this quote and the mediation ap Insight Timer which has 30,000 free mediations available to listen to. Even 10 minutes of meditation a day can make a positive difference to your mind and health #meditation #insighttimer #herbalist

05.01.2022 Sounds interesting and potentially very helpful!

05.01.2022 So its only taken me a few years to get around to it, but I finally have a web page! If you want to check it out go to: www.cathlilburn.com Thanks Jacstar designs for your assistance :)

04.01.2022 FACE to FACE CONSULTATIONS// I am back seeing patients in my clinic! As long as they are not unwell (fevers, coughs etc). I am still offering phone & Zoom consultations for people who dont live close to me or who have health issues that prevent them from coming into the clinic. Consulting days are: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. Mondays are for admin & ordering. Thank you ... #herbalist #bulli #wollongong See more

04.01.2022 A STEADY HEART // In these times it’s easy to feel vulnerable and anxious. I got to the end of my day having helped patients over the phone and having made up lots of remedies in my dispensary, having sat with my 16 year old who’s teaching himself year 11 maths at home and sat with my daughter who’s not 100% today. I tried to do some Uni study, but decided the best thing I could do was go to my Insight Timer meditation app and choose a meditation. The first meditation that ...jumped out was Jack Cornfield’s ‘A Steady Heart’. It was perfect and if you’re interested, I’d recommend you trying it out for some grounding and steadying at the end of the day, or anytime you can fit it in! The pictures I have chosen are of the incredible redwood & Sequoia trees of North America #steadfast #grounded #strength #insighttimer #herbalist #bulli #wollongong @ Bulli, New South Wales See more

04.01.2022 ANDROGRAPHIS & ARMAFORCE // An update on the Bioceuticals product Armaforce that many people take for immune support. Bioceuticals have changed their directions from 3-4 tablets per day to 1 tablet per day for a maximum of 2 weeks. This is a very significant update. Bioceuticals had to do this due to reports of adverse reactions to Armaforce based on their higher dose of 3-4 tablets per day. The main component of Armaforce is the Auervedic herb Andrographis paniculata which ...is a very strong bitter and if taken in high doses it can cause taste disturbance, loss of appetite and vomiting. Its a reminder that it is important to consult with a Herbalist when taking any herbal product to check the suitability of the herb & the individual dose required. #herbs #andrographis #armaforce #herbalist #wollongong #bulli @ Bulli, New South Wales See more

02.01.2022 COVID-19 // We are being bombarded with updates on the current pandemic and it does feel overwhelming. We are in unprecedented and ever changing times. I just wanted to write a short post about a couple of issues relevant to the situation: 1. Symptoms to be aware of: sore throat, fever, cough, fatigue & difficulty breathing; 2. Coronavirus Health Information Line for advice: 1800 020 080; 3. Protect yourself & others via good hygiene & self quarantine if necessary; 4. If you... require additional immune support you can contact me to discuss herbs & nutrients to help your immune system. Be mindful that there is greater demand for these products at the moment so some of them are out of stock; 5. If you require an appointment but are unable to attend in person (or have symptoms of a virus) I can conduct a Skype or Zoom session. Take care, be kind and try not to panic. Cath See more

02.01.2022 Hydrotherapy in action! Have you tried jumping in the ocean recently? I did some laps down at the local ocean pool this morning and it was quite invigorating!

01.01.2022 An interesting article covering the connection between inflammation and other health issues including depression. The mind and body are not separate entities but very much interrelated. And there are natural approaches to help manage inflammation
