24.01.2022 I wish my photography skills were better, so you'll just have to take my word for it that this pile of brown stuff was actually delicious Made Nasi Goreng last night but with a bit of a twist... Half rice, half cauliflower rice. ... My husband didn't even notice Yasssssssssss

23.01.2022 Last night I posted a recipe for a chicken curry soup that I lovingly cooked, only for Oliver to spit it out... Tonight I blitzed it just a little and served it to him again for dinner. He happily ate half of this bowl. It wasnt the taste he was rejecting, it was the the texture! There was heaps going on with the pulled chicken, veggies and chickpeas, so it's totally understandable that it was all a little too much. Especially at the end of the day when he's tired and cranky... and just wants to eat something easy and go to bed. Sometimes your little one will spit out a food because they don't like the flavour, but there are other reasons too (like texture). This is why it's so important to not give up and to keep trying! Remember, it can take dozens of exposures before kids really decide whether they love or hate a food. Don't give up mamma x

23.01.2022 Breakfast with a toddler... The toast HAD to be eaten using the ninja turtle spoon and the favourite cat toy HAD to be held by mum at all times. The aforementioned cat could NOT sit on the bench, the only acceptable place for it was in my palm whilst at all times being within reaching distance. ... Eating with kids rarely makes sense, but just go with it man. Sometimes it's hard to get everything done in the mornings but Ollie clearly just wanted my attention and company this morning while he ate. I guarantee you if I refused to hold the bloody cat he would have refused to eat. Not because he wasn't hungry or didn't want toast, but because eating can be as much a social activity as it is for nourishment. Of course we adults prefer to go out for dinner with friends rather than sit there on our own, it's really not that different.

19.01.2022 Food isn't JUST about nutrients and calories...Sometimes it's all about eating prosciutto wrapped, goats cheese filled figs because the girls are round and why the hell not. Food is life

17.01.2022 Lovvvvvve Sushi Yeah yeah, I know, rice is totally not trending right now because it's not paleo or keto or whatever. I personally tolerate rice fine and don't feel crappy after I eat it, so imma just keep eating it #kthanks. ... Yaki Nori (seaweed wraps) are amazeballs for you..they are packed with minerals like iron, calcium, copper and iodine (which is a very important nutrient if you are growing a babbeh ). They're also a great source of vitamins like Vit K and folate. I stuffed some smoked salmon, avo and cucumber in these #hellogoodfats Took me 15mins to make and roll them and now the husband and I have a totes fancy lunch for work tomorrow, (it's a rare occasion these days that Team Norris rolls together ) I did leave out the sugar when seasoning my rice and just used the rice vinegar, but that's just my personal taste preference.

16.01.2022 Whats for lunch? Today Ollie has a little finger food plate, which he likes. He has a natural PB sandwich on wholemeal, some strawberries, cheese, and some popcorn.... I do the popcorn in the microwave inside a brown tuckshop bag. Homemade popcorn is great as it doesn't have all the extra salt, fat and sugar added that store bought has. It's also a really cheap snack, as a $2 bag of kernals makes heaps!

15.01.2022 So for MONTHS I've been peeling and chopping his pears because he refused to eat them any other way. I'd offer him the whole pear and then chop it up after he'd thrown it at me haha. Yesterday we were food shopping, he was being a little feral, so I gave him one of the free pears for kids that Woolies put at the entrance. I thought for sure I'd be picking up pear off the aisles, but nope he ate it, which was very unexpected. So anyways, now he eats pears like a normal human ...being Moral of the story: don't give up. One day they may just shock you and eat something totally unexpected. You just have to keep trying!! Remember it can literally take DOZENS of exposures before they decide something isn't poison.

11.01.2022 I've had a sick baby all week and it's been pretty shit. Pea and ham soup with some sourdough bread and wine is definitely what I need. I love pea and ham soup, so many veggies and so much goodness.

11.01.2022 Quite a large range of frozen veg are being recalled due to potential Listeria contamination.

09.01.2022 Joel is my one of my fav internet dieticians and always has really good, evidence based advice. Although, he forgot the 6th thing that saps your energy; kids. But seriously, some really good foods to try and limit if you're finding yourself persistently tired and run down.

08.01.2022 This makes me incredibly sad and it's also why I try really hard to not judge people on their food choices. When I was at uni doing my masters this topic was my research project. It was found that if you were on welfare, it would take up almost HALF of your entire payment just to buy all the different foods you need to eat within the Australian Dietary Guidelines. That's with buying all the budget brands. HALF. ... When there are bills and rent, people simply can't afford to spend half on food. It's one of the reasons I'll never prescribe anyone a diet where you snort kale and almond meal. We're living in a world that has gone a bit silly when it comes to food. Where fad diet gurus tell us the only way to be healthy is to buy these ridiculously expensive ingredients. Carrots and frozen peas are good for you too...and they cost about $1.50/kilo #screwthekale

04.01.2022 Ollie and I sat down this morning to eat our porridge for brekky. He stuffed around so I had finished mine before him. He then started to lose interest with his food so I poured his porridge into MY bowl and gave him MY spoon, which ignited a new interest in his brekky. 5 minutes later he starts to stuff around again, so I pretended to feed his porridge to the cat. This was apparently NOT ON and he downed the rest of his brekky so Pablo couldn't have it ... He then rubbed his tummy and smacked his lips, (which in his language means "all full"). Moral of the story: it wasnt anything about his food, the taste, the texture the temperature etc that he didn't like. It was some unexplainable #toddlerlogic where everything tastes better when it's someone elses. Sometimes you just gotta get creative to overcome the barriers at meal time! May the force be with you.

04.01.2022 Tonights dinner is brought to you by, "mummy has mentally checked out". Fish & veg fingers, cheese & strawberries. Meh whatever. ... Not every meal has to inspired by Mary-Freaking-Poppins.

03.01.2022 Ollie has been digging soups lately, which is great because I like soup too. I made this awesome pulled chicken curry coconut soup in the pressure cooker this arvo. Naturally, Oliver didn't like it oh well, more for me!! Chucked a 1kg soup pack (carrot, parsnip, swede & onion), 2 chicken breasts, 4C veg stock, 1/2C dried chickpeas, 1/2C dried barley, 3 cloves garlic and approx 2T curry powder into the pressure cooker. ... Cooked for 30mins and then stirred through a tin of coconut milk. It tastes bloody awesome, the chicken just pulled apart so easily. Sahhhh moist. If you don't like curry, substitute it for the juice of 1 lemon and do coconut lemon instead.
