25.01.2022 Synchronization is just as important as hand eye coordination or expression. Rukmini devi arundale improvised Pandanallur style to emphasise synchronization amongst dancers. This emerged as very popular "Kalashetra" style in Bharathanatyam. One of the fun sessions before winding up the class in Natyokthi involves Ëxpression" or "Synchronization"...Here is a glimpse of what we do :)

17.01.2022 As promised , we are here with our choreography challenge - mashup. The very fact that you chose the song and put whatever steps you know and performed as promissed is commendable. Some nervous ,some excited , few hardly introduced to Bharathanatyam, few who mastered quite few steps , a bit of well rehearsed and those who managed off the cuff , love you all. Watch it till the end to catch a glimpse of teacher's impromptu choreograhy. Video shoot : Natyokhi students Video Editing : Rakesh (Instagram - @raki10vsd)

15.01.2022 Waking up at wee hours of Sunday to get dressed up in Bharatanatyam costume, staying fresh through the prolonged cuts and retakes, cracking jokes and chasing away the kids from the frame, can't think of a moment where we didn't have fun on Natyokthi Annual day/Video shoot day. Do you think movies are cool? try this once :). Video shooting, like movie shooting, starts with visualising the theme. Followed by discussing the script , song selection, location hunt, getting everyon...e's dates hardest when you have 20+ heroines!!! With constantly changing weather forecasts, we completely relied on all the gods we know. Finally when it was "pack up" we all were truly exhausted and had nothing but gratitude!! We have proved time and again that Natyokthi is family and there is no dearth of volunteers here! Edited Videos will be our real recompense. While me and the video teams are at it, please have fun watching some candid pics during our shoot. Pics credit : Natyokthi volunteers , Delhi6

15.01.2022 Guru Brahma.. It is impossible to imagine the blossoming of an individual without the presence of a Guru. The sound and the word Gu imply darkness (ignorance) and ru implies the remover (dispeller). Guru dispels darkness and leads the pupil to the unadulterated awareness and perception. This piece of choreography is a small dedication to my gurus who explored, taught, and shared the tenets "rhythm", "drama" and "danced interpretation" to me for more than fourteen years.... More importantly, they saw the dance in me that inspired me for a lifelong commitment and passion for Indian classical dance. Set in Bharatanatyam base, this piece is an amalgamation of steps from other classical forms including Kathak, Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi. All the performers in this piece are budding dancers with not more than two years of learning in Natyokthi. Their dedication, effort, zeal to learn is highly commendable. May I, from the bottom of my heart, wish each one of them to blossom into wonderful dancers, performers soon. My Gurus : Vidwan Balakrishna. 04.01.2022 A live vocal YouTube performance of Maithreem bhajatha by an ensemble of accomplished artists across genres led by the great Carnatic vocalist Sudha Raghunath gave the necessary spark for the conceptualization of this piece. The song in terms of its lyrics appeared apt for the contemporary world rooted in competition at all levels of human existence. Interestingly, this celebrated song was rendered at the United Nations on October 23, 1966 on the UN day by Bharat Ratna Sm...t. M. S. Subbalakshmi and Dr. Radha Viswanathan and received rave reviews. "Maithreem Bhajtham" make a wise choice Cooperation over competition". Stay humble in giving, sharing, and seeking. "Athmavatheva..." Stay equanimous. Look upon others as like oneself. The difference we observe is a function of thought which is time. What goes up, comes down too. Regression is a law of nature. Pride, power, might, misery, suffering and lows are part of the same cycle. "Yudham Thyajatha..." - Renounce war. Competition is unintelligent. Collaboration is natural. If only we snap out of the bounds of thinking we see collaboration and then the beauty, which is quiet and effortless comes upon. "Jananeem .preithvee... Janako devaha" Moving round the Sun, the mother earth gives abundantly to everything and everyone. The moons and stars are thereeternally patient. The Universe is simply is. Beyond the unquenchable urge for seeking meaning and purpose to have gratitude and compassion asking for too much? "Shreyo bhooya..."- Pray for everyone, everything. Let us try to be inclusive. Thank you everyone. This video is the outcome of hard work and collaboration of many. It is my privilege to acknowledge and recognize them.
