21.01.2022 Today is a day of national remembrance. Today, we also reflect on the different meanings of war, sacrifice and what it means to serve. In this unprecedented year of bushfires and Covid, we also acknowledge the contribution of our emergency and health workers who embrace and reflect the Anzac spirit.... As we come together in spirit, it is incredible to see that the Anzac traditions are alive in all of us. We honour the service, dedication, and memory of all defence members, past and present. We will remember them. Lest we forget.

20.01.2022 To commemorate the contributions and sacrifices of all Australians in the defence of our nation, Navy Canteens will donate $1 from every cup of coffee to Legacy Australia during Remembrance Day. 19.01.2022 All this week, Navy Canteens is celebrating our mothers in the Navy! Today, LCDR Felicity Petrie gives us an insight into the many roles she undertakes and the connections she has made with mums in the Navy. "As part of a dual serving Navy family, being a Mum in the Navy means taking on and sharing many roles between us, and these roles being dynamic and interchangeable between both parents, including going to sea, being the home parent, or juggling two shore jobs, studies ...and all the home needs . It means having flexible, resilient, independent children, and building a support network of other Navy Mums and Dads to share the load with. It means making sacrifices and juggling work, home, school, fun and adventures. It means having children who are raised without gender boundaries defining who does work and who does home. It means having children who have travelled widely in their home country, and who have friends in pretty much every state. It also means having children who ask at the dinner table how does a missile work. (A few of us have formed a little Mum coalition, where we share caring, cooking, pet care, adventures, fun, and help each other out in emergencies or difficult times.) Being a Mum in the Navy means that even when your husband is away on a ship, and you have to take your kid to hospital, your team of Navy Mums/Families are there to help in an instant picking up your other child to stay the night, bringing you your first meal in 12 hours and an overnight bag, and giving you a big hug, and making sure everything is sorted out for you. Being a Navy Mum means being adaptable and flexible, and really appreciating a supportive and flexible workplace. My current role in ADF headquarters Joint Doctrine has been fully supportive; allowing me to balance work with family life while my husband is at sea, making juggling all the roles so much easier." A great insight into Navy bonds, thanks Felicity! Happy Mothers Week!

19.01.2022 HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our very own Rhonda! Rhonda is a long serving member of Navy Canteens, operating down at Cerberus while also taking on Operation roles around the country! Wish her a Happy Birthday below to show her how much we care! See more

18.01.2022 All this week, Navy Canteens has celebrated our wonderful mums in the Navy! Thank you to all our a featured mums this week, we hope that this weekend you get to share this special day with your family. For our final article, LCDR Ainsley Slattery talks to us about what it means to represent women in uniform and the effect that has on her perceptions of motherhood. I am incredibly proud to be a Navy Mum and to be raising a male champion of change! I cant wait to tell my son ...all the stories of my adventures at sea, to tell him about all incredible people I have worked with, talk about all the challenges I have had but overcome, and show him that women can do anything they choose in life. Its definitely not easy being a full-time working Mum, but the fact that I can put on the Navy uniform and represent my country every day makes it all a little bit easier. Thank you, Ainsley and Happy Mothers Week!

07.01.2022 All this week were celebrating our mums in the Navy. Today, HMAS Cerberus own Captain Cassandra Ryan tells us her story, highlighting the nature of her job and how her children respond. "I am a Mum to my stepdaughter; Shenae (23), daughter; Abbrielle (10) and son; Scott (9).... Being a Mum in the Navy has meant that I have developed my project management skills, time management, multi-tasking ability and significant sense of humour. We (Navy) have developed many opportunities to support parents in the workforce and our network grows stronger each day as we are able to articulate the challenges of combining family with a career in Defence. My children have had me spend extended periods away from them due to work and that has built their resilience and independence. They understand better than anybody the sacrifices it takes to have a career and they are all highly motivated to make their own way in the world. My husband, Matt is my greatest support and a true partner in everything we have achieved through both career and family life. The ability to be present and enjoy each moment is vital in the daily battle between work and home but I wouldnt change a thing in my rich and dynamic life that combines the joy of motherhood alongside my rewarding career as a Marine Engineer." Thank you, Cass and Happy Mothers Week!

07.01.2022 Congratulations Judy! Thank you for all your hard work over the years. Everyone here at Navy Canteens appreciates what you have achieved! Well done!

07.01.2022 During NAIDOC Week 2020, the Royal Australian Navy profiles the ongoing achievements of its Indigenous Australian service personnel and celebrates the histories..., cultures, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Navy is committed to a culturally inclusive workplace that enables our respected fighting force to deliver on its duties to Australians and actively encourages all its people to be involved in deepening their knowledge and cultural understanding during NAIDOC Week. As part of this commitment, Navy personnel participated in a didgeridoo workshop onboard HMAS Parramatta IV and, following, invited Australian Indigenous composer and virtuoso didgeridoo player, William Barton to perform a musical piece with them called 'Remembrance'. 05.01.2022 In the lead up to Mothers Day this Sunday, Navy Canteens is celebrating our mums in the Navy! Today, WO Caraline Enniss talks to us about the range of support she has and gives us some advice on motherhood. "Being a Navy mum for me requires the ability to balance the needs of many against my own needs and desires. I do not always get it right and that is ok. ... Being a Navy family, we are lucky, as home is wherever you are for that moment and family are those around you at the time. Those early mornings and late evenings can make for a long day and at times the guilt can set in, however, arriving at day-care just before it closes to the sound of little feet running toward you, yelling, Mama, mama! makes all those worries pass in a second. I am lucky that I have a wonderful family and remarkable circle of friends which includes a group women I met in those early days of navigating being a new mum. These are the ones who support me during bad days and stand by me during the good. Additionally, my only advice for all mums, everyone has an opinion about motherhood, take the parts that work for you and disregard the rest and above all keep those good people close." Thanks for your story, Caraline. Happy Mothers Week!

04.01.2022 All this week, were celebrating our mums in the Navy! Today, CPOML-S Amy Gale talks to us about her journey. "Being a mum in the Navy feels like I have two full time jobs. From 6am I start my day getting my 2 year old and 5 year old out of bed, dressed and breakfast before the morning rush to Day Care and School. I then start my 8/9 hour working day where I am very fortunate to work in an environment where my Command strongly believe that family come first which allows me t...o have flexibility within my working hours. My workplace (has) set the example and allows me the flexibility which minimises the stress. I believe I have the two best jobs in the world. I joined the Navy at 17 and it has been my one and only job. I get to go to a job I love each and every day and then come home to my family and boys who are my world and light up when they see their mum in uniform." Happy Mothers Week!
