25.01.2022 Sunday was #WorldSepsisDay - an important day to highlight this common cause of death across the globe. We're joining hospitals across the world to raise awaren...ess. Globally, sepsis affects between 47 and 50 million people every year and is it's the cause of 20 per cent of all deaths worldwide. #Sepsis often presents as the clinical deterioration of common and preventable infections such as those of the respiratory, gastrointestinal and urinary tract, or of wounds and skin. Sepsis is potentially reversible if it's diagnosed at an early stage, so it's important to know the risks, spot the signs and act fast. Our Infectious Diseases and Infection Prevention teams are raising awareness today with a special online seminar for medical staff.

23.01.2022 A BIG THANK YOU to all the patients who have registered to take part in our C-SMART trial which is investigating if a low dose of a drug delivered as a daily na...sal spray can help prevent COVID-19 and other viral respiratory infections. We still need more patients aged 18 years and over who have had cancer treatment within the past year to take part in this important trial by Peter Mac and NCIC. Prevention and treatment options for COVID-19 infection are urgently required for cancer patients, who often have a weakened immune system. We are so grateful to all those participating in this trial and to our dedicated team of infectious diseases experts (pictured). If you are interested in taking part in this trial or would like to find out more, please visit www.csmart.com.au. #clinicaltrials #cancerresearch #cancer #medicalresearch

16.01.2022 https://twitter.com/PeterMacHSR/status/1336895909771153408 Congratulations to NCICs first ever Nurse Practitioner Belinda Lambros!! Belinda has been working towards this role for the last 12 years and we couldn't be more proud to have supported her and her fantastic AMS work.

16.01.2022 Last night, we were relieved to learn that a staff member, who earlier this week tested positive for COVID-19, was actually a ‘false positive’. This means the t...eam member does not have the coronavirus (COVID-19) and that close contacts no longer need to self-isolate. Last night, we worked quickly to get in contact with the individuals involved. We have now spoken with all affected staff and patients, and the overwhelming feeling was one of relief. 14.01.2022 THE PROTREAT CLINICAL SMART TRIAL FOR PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF COVID-19 IN CANCER Cancer patients are highly vulnerable and at risk of COVID-19 infection. NCIC along with the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre will be running a clinical trial specifically for cancer patients: preventing COVID-19 with a safe and well tolerated antivirus nose spray that has shown good results overseas against COVID-19; and treatment of moderate to severe COVID-19 with exciting new drugs developed right here in Melbourne, Australia. The SMART design of our study will mean that we will continually monitor the effects on cancer patients and most importantly will provide reassurance that we are doing everything we can to support them in their cancer fight.
