22.01.2022 Lauren inspiring some of our up-and-coming athletes with a bit of ‘show and tell’ about her medal winning experience from the Australian Gymnastics Championships. In the moment Lauren realised she had won a gold medal on floor, she said it hasn’t quite sunk in yet, but it literally makes it all so much more worth it. Achieving skills and competing is one thing, but then having it finally pay off like this is a whole different level of feeling accomplished and it shows all o...f the hard work behind it. Lauren said her favourite part of the trip was being on the competition floor in a group of athletes from other states, where everyone was cheering and being supportive of each other. Lauren also said her goals from here are to definitely to go again next year, and upgrade my routines with some new skills, including a Hindorff on bars, which was put on hold due to an elbow injury in December. Congratulations again Lauren! We are so proud of you and we are lucky to have you as such a great role model in the gym.

22.01.2022 ACTIVE CHILDREN = ACTIVE ADULTS . Gymnastics promotes and develops co-ordination, flexibility, strength and body awareness through activities using fundamental movement patterns. . #Repost @exerciseright_aus with @make_repost... . Why is it important that children get moving when theyre young? Because active kids develop physical literacy! Physical literacy is the knowledge and understanding of how to move your body, the confidence and motivation to move, and the social skills to be active with other people. Research suggests that engaging in physical activity as a child predicts participation in physical activity and exercise as an adult. This ensures the benefits of physical activity carry through from childhood to adulthood, reducing the risk of chronic disease, illness and injuries. Conversely, those who do not participate in physical activity as a child are unlikely to be active as adolescents and adults; they are less competent, confident and motivated. . #fridayfact #exerciseright #gymnastics #physicalliteracy #fitkids #buildingbetterhumans #startheregoanywhere #lifeskillsforkids See more

22.01.2022 Have You Got The Guts? Julie Meek, Sports Dietitian Gut health affects almost every aspect of our wellbeing and two things that play a big role in this are pre and probiotics. It does impact on how well you perform as an athlete and your brain feels happier when your gut is happy.... What are probiotics? Probiotics are live bacteria that are naturally found in our gut and in some foods. Prebiotics on the other hand are very different. They are mostly soluble fibres and resistant starches that act as fuel for our good bacteria in the large intestine or colon. They get the party started by being fermented by gut bacteria and boosting the balance of our micro biome (our gut garden) to be healthier. There is a particularly clever starch known as resistant starch that selectively nourish and feed your gut bacteria. This is the starch that we should all be consuming every day. Check out these guys and find out where you can get your daily dose. Food Resistant Starch (per 100g) Potato, sliced, boiled and cooled 0.8g Potato, steamed and cooled 6g Potato, roasted, cooled 19g Cashew nuts 13g Bananas, green 38g Bananas, ripe 5g Oats, cooked 0.2g Oats, rolled, uncooked 11g White beans, cooked/canned 4g Lentils, cooked 3g Cooking and cooling some foods like potato, increases the content of resistant starch. Eating other foods like oats in their raw state, rather than cooked, also bumps up the amount of resistant starch. How are you getting yours? 19.01.2022 Winter Nutrition Tips Julie Meek, Sports Dietitian 1. Get fresh with vegetables - cooked vegetables are the go-to in the colder months to keep warm but dont forget to include crunchy salad vegetables for a boost of vitamins that are otherwise lost in the cooking process.... 2. Think like a camel heaters and warm clothes have been your friends to keep your hands and body warm but this could mean that your body may be feeling a little dehydrated. Grab that water bottle and put it on your desk and in the car for easy access. Add a slice of lemon for a flavour boost. 3. Find the sun - Right now is the perfect opportunity to replenish your Vitamin D when the sun is not blazing. All you need is around 20 minutes of sun each day during winter. This vitamin is linked to reducing our risk of cancer, is essential for our overall well-being and strong bones. 4. Be lighter - winter is notorious for eating more for comfort and keeping warm. Take a good look at your portion sizes and treats that may have snuck in - is it time to take a fresh look at portion sizes? 5. The Orange Glow orange coloured fruit and vegetables are full of Vitamin C and Vitamin A, fabulous immune strengthening vitamins. Think sweet potato, pumpkin, carrots, rockmelon and oranges and include at least one of them daily. Julie Meek and her daughter Indi are long time members of the Northern Districts Gymnastic Club. 12.01.2022 Yum! Who doesnt love a bit of Sunday baking That naughty kid moment when you wonder if it would be ok to just eat the Chocolate Cake batter rather than cook it? My conscience prevailed and I made do with the spoon and the bowl ... This is the easiest Chocolate Cake that I ever did write on a piece of paper one random day many moons ago. Kudos to whoever shared it with me In one big bowl mix dry and then wet ingredients - 1 and 2/3 cups plain flour + 1 cup sugar + 2/3 cup cocoa + 1.5 tsp bicarbonate + 2 eggs + 1/4 cup oil + 3 tblspns butter or other spread, melted + 1 tsp vanilla + 1.5 cups of milk with 1 tsp vinegar mixed in first. Bake in moderate oven for 40 minutes. Round, square or ring tin all work well. You can ice with a little icing sugar, cocoa and water or just dust with icing sugar - either way is perfect. 08.01.2022 Dear Members, Life members and Staff, Thank you for your patience as we have pivoted from our regular annual NDGC Club Championships and awards day to an awards day only. We have unfortunately needed to change the day from Sunday 1st November to Sunday 15th November to secure an appropriate outdoor venue. We are still awaiting final approval from the council but we are aware the original date is now only 3 weeks away and wanted to make sure we gave everyone plenty of notice ...to change their plans. We apologise for needing to change the date and hope very much that everyone can still attend the afternoon. Once final approval is received from the council we will be sending out full details for the afternoon. Thanks again for all your patience and support this year.

05.01.2022 Dear Members, Thank you for your patience as we work through the requirements and restrictions of re-opening our Balcatta venue. As with everything related to COVID-19, things can change rapidly so we hope you understand these dates have the potential to change according to government regulations. We have chosen to take a cautious approach with family financial stress being one of our main concerns with getting ALL our members back into gymnastics. With this in mind along wit...h physical distancing, hygiene and limited use of equipment we have chosen to adopt the following timeline. 25th May - Very limited access to the facility for some competitive groups, up to 20 people at a time for fitness classes or small group training, at this point apparatus use is off limits, as are the change rooms but toilets will be open. 8th June - Our office/reception team will be back to take phone calls, enquiries and bookings for our full gym re-opening on the 15th June. In the meantime, any and all enquiries should be directed to [email protected]. 15th June - We will be welcoming back ALL our members from Kindy, Recreational, Development, Competitive, Adult classes etc. with some restrictions on numbers, hygiene and cleaning protocols. We will not be open for Birthday Parties or Holiday program just yet. It is our intention to use the three weeks of missed classes from Term one when we reopen for the remainder of Term 2 and the weeks worth of remaining March fees for competitive stream members to fund the initial stage of reopening. We will NOT be asking for any additional training fees until at least July. We hope that this will give member families sufficient time to get back to work and budget before having to commit to gymnastics fees. This information is intended to give you an overview of our planned timelines. We will be emailing significantly more detailed information in the coming week and ask for your patience while these documents are being developed. We hope you are all keeping safe and well. We are very excited to see as many of you coming back to gymnastics as possible in the near future.
05.01.2022 Congratulations to our MAG Level 7 athletes Wesley & Ethan who competed at their first Australian Gymnastics Championships earlier this week!
05.01.2022 Attention all KinderGymers! NDGC is here to help your 2 - 5-year olds build skills for life in our fun, safe and hygienic environment. Our KinderGym program is created to provide guided discovery and free exploration circuits to facilitate skilled learning and foundations of movement. KinderGym focuses on movement-based activities such as balancing, sliding, rolling, running, swinging, jumping and lots more! These challenging activities assist your childs development of coo...rdination, confidence and creativity. Offered in two different age groups, we have set target skills for children to achieve throughout the year. 2 & 3-year-old classes with parent participation (Tumble Tots) build on this foundation whilst the 4 & 5-year-old classes (KinderGym) transition skills through to our Junior Recreational Program. There is no parent participation in the 4 & 5-year-old classes so children need to be confident enough to participate without mum or dad on the floor. Book in for a no obligation come and try at https://ndgc.org.au/enrol/come-try-booking-form/ Call us today on 9240 6861 or email [email protected] to book in or find out more. During her gymnastics career Chloe has travelled to the USA and represented NDGC and Western Australia on the State Team at Australian Championships in both WAG and ACRO. Most recently, Chloe has done a fabulous job coaching our State Levels 3 & 4 girls, who adore her. From everyone at NDGC w...e would like to thank Chloe for being such a valued part of our club over the years. We will miss having Chloe in the gym, but we do hope to still see her from time to time for relief coaching.
